What fantastic service from Raddy, how refreshing to hear of a company that not only listens to it's customers but responds such as this. I'm almost tempted to get one just because of their understanding. 10/10 Raddy, other companies take note.

I feel really conflicted wbout the FR919. I liked it's little brother but it turned out to be completely deaf on airband and not much batter on SW. Now it sits in the bathroom popping out LBC when I'm having a shower in the morning.
My other problem is that while I'd have dfreamed of such kit thiry years ago I can hear a lot of thinsg a whole lot better on my phone.
Still think I'll end up buying one though! Great video Fred.

Decent antenna, decent sized too, must be way bigger than the internal one. My first thought when I saw it, was like in the first Dirty Harry movie where Client Eastwood pulls out his gun and the guy says "MY! THAT'S A BIG ONE!!". 😉📻📡 Romania whooped us in the Euro's, got off to a bad start. But we made up for it by beating Slovakia!!

Raddy is essentially selling a shortwave radio with a major DEFECT, what is known as, muted tuning, meaning you cannot hear what is being broadcast on all t he stations as you surf the channels when you tune the radio from frequency to frequency, whether you tune it manually with the fine tuning knob or when you press a button to tune the radio from frequency to frequency.
You will see on the frequency meter as you do this a visual display that indicates the frequency strength of each individual through signals represented visually on the signal meter station or channel you surf through.
But muted tuning means you will lose the audio momentarily so that the audio level drops off the board, as they say, completely, not allowing you to hear what is being broadcast unless you stop at any given frequency and stay there. Muted tuning can make it possible for you to inadvertently pass over channels or stations you might otherwise prefer to stay on and listen to.
That this particular Raddy radio has this muted tuning is not a feature but a design flaw whereby the Raddy company should issue a recall and have their customers send the radios back to Raddy for a fix but Raddy will not do this unless forced to by either the US government or by a court ruling and neither one is likely to happen unless lawsuits are filed against Raddy and they will be forced to answer the lawsuits in open court or agree to an out of court settlement.
Raddy has not been responsive enough to address customer concerns about this defect. They offer a quick-fix email link but so far, the half dozen people I've spoken to who have this radio and are stuck with this muted tuning defect have tried to follow Raddy's directions to correct this muted tuning flaw but this quick-fix does not work in actuality. At least not for the six people I spoke to.
How many other Raddy customers have gotten similar run-arounds from Raddy, I don't know. But as I said in my prior comment below, Raddy is a company operating from Communist China and are likely owned the Chinese communist government or their military under the business banner they call, Raddy.
And so far, from what I have seen of Chinese companies who produce products with defects, they always fail to correct problems or address customer concerns. Once they have your money, they could care less.
In China, over the past 40 years, there have been a never-ending number of inferior shortwave radios being produced in China and sold from there. Only a few of them have had any merit. Most of these radios have come and gone because of inferior designs and built-in defects.
Let's see what happens with this particular Raddy radio. Let's see if Raddy takes the initiative and accepts the responsibility it should and begin not only fixing these adios but all future models of this particular radio. They need a revised schematic upon which to base refute production of this radio.
I personally will not buy this radio unless Raddy corrects the defect and markets all new versions of this radio with the problem of muted tuning eradicated. All such future models of this radio must then be sold with a new model number to reflect the fact the muted tuning defect has been corrected.

    • @CB-RADIO-UK
      @CB-RADIO-UK  4 месяца назад

Your both right and wrong at the same time. Firstly Raddy only brand the radio and do not make it so they cannot fix the issue themselves. I ve currently got a different make of radio in for testing and its the same. Second it not actually a fault as such as its been designed that way to mute the sound. I do agree with you that its not very good for SWL as your quite right that you will miss distant stations when tuning. I think its more of a case of bring a product on to the market without proper research to peoples needs. In fairness ATS did the same thing with the little 25 radio and have pretty much fixed it. It can be fixed with software and the good thing is that the developers do read and respond to comments like yours above.

I realize I'm echoing another commenter, but I'm just here to bemoan the fact that, as impressive as that directional bar is, owning one is likely to become somewhat moot, shortly.
RTE in Ireland pulled the plug on Long Wave just over a year ago, I think, and BBC Radio 4 has seemingly put a 'Do Not Resuscitate' order on its main Midlands LW transmitter which relies on some antique, but vital valve or crystal or some such, and in any case plan to knock LW broadcasting on the head sometime this year. As a matter of fact I'm surprised they haven't switched off already, I thought they had planned on leaving the band by about now. Of course they have probably had tons of letters from older listeners particularly, or those who, like me, are listening overseas (Ireland in my case). Notwithstanding the fact that one gets the feeling that the BBC are positively hostile to foreign and ex~pat listeners, perhaps they will do like RTE and 'dwindle it out' for some months after the originally anounced switch off date - who knows, maybe until those crucial parts give up the ghost? (lets hope!)
Still, I would say, if you have this Raddy radio, you'd probably be stupid to not pick up the aerial, being free 'n all (let's hope you kept your receipt!) but otherwise, well, unless you hail from Algeria, or, I dunno, Mongolia or one of the 'Stans and wish to stay abreast of events at home (and even then, lets be frank, there's got to be easier ways), I don't know how much these retail for, but there probably isn't much point in shelling out for one of these, impressive performer that it is.
Sorry Raddy, I almost feel bad for putting the mockers on it!

In the uk there’s nothing much on longwave anymore. BBC Radio 4 I think is pulling the plug on its longwave service very soon and RTL ( formerly radio Luxembourg ) went silent a couple of years ago. I would like to know if this radio mutes while tuning/ scanning though? Most new radios have this issue
