I used to even wrastle with our male golden when I was in my younger child days. He knew not to bite me and I knew not to hurt him either. At the time he was actually heavier than me. I stopped when we both got older. But me and him did enjoy it.
They have webbed feet for swimming. They are a working dog. Originally, they are from Scotland where they retrieved birds that their owner shot. They swam into rivers, ponds and estuaries to get them. That's why they could play in a swimming pool all day.

Trust me, it's not as good as you'd expect. having a pack of 3 month olds run across a field and tackle you looks better than it feels, at that point their nails are particularly clawlike and they have no idea how big they are. They tore the hell out of my shirt and my arms took weeks to heal. I'd still do it again.
I’m crying with ya. Both of mine have been gone for two years now after living just past 14 years old. My house isn’t the same anymore. No more loud drinking from their water bowl and no more of the sound of their claws tapping the hard floor as they walked around inside. Just silence and it sucks.

I felt that, just lost mine of almost 12 years yesterday from having to battle diabetes to several tumors. Strong and stubborn girl, I will always miss her.
My Grandparents had a beautiful golden retriever named Lady. She miraculously brought my parents together and was even there after I was born. Sadly, she passed away 2 years ago but she'll be forever in our hearts 😊 PS. If this comment gets 200 likes, I'll tell u guys how she got my parents married ❤ 🐕🐾🦴❤
Just please remember to always ask before petting ANY dog you don't know. Goldens have a higher bit rate than you would imagine... MOSTLY because people automatically assume they are nice.

I have two Golden's one about to be 8 years old and the other 4. I sleep better knowing they're here with me and life has been night and day better for their presence.
Was out camping with my girlfriend and her 12 yro golden Grin. It was an isolated camp site on Lake Mead, and we were completely alone. Sue was getting water at a spigot when this pick-up truck full of camping gear and a very large Rottweiler came driving into camp. The Rottweiler jumped out of the moving truck and went for Grin in full genetic attack mode. That's when I saw this 'would never hurt a fly' Golden Retriever react, sending the Rottweiler yelping off back to the pick-up. It was lightning fast and efficient.... I've never seen that before in a Golden. No one got hurt, but Grin simply established dominance.
I grew up with 2 golden retrievers. They played a massive role in making my childhood what it was. I love and miss you Doobers (Darby) and Caser-Dog (Casey)
They can get possessive over food though much like any animal. And there have been occasions (again, I think this would be common for most if not all animals) where they do get angry and will act out if anyone gets between them and their food. Aside from that, they’re seriously loveable dogs that steal my heart almost every time I see that cute adorable 🥰 golden face.
My daughter had one & her husband got a job out of out state & their whole fam moved away & gave the dog to a friend. It honestly went into depression so bad it was heartbreaking. So if u get one get it for forever. They are beautiful & sweet & the kindest dogs I’ve ever seen.
They are supreme athletes who need space and exercise. I love them so. I do not have a dog because I cannot provide this space for any dog let alone a Golden. If you choose to have a Golden please accept him/her as a lifetime commitment/companion. Which is true of all dogs, particularly these.
I’ve had golden Labrador Retrievers since my late teens and my current dog Daisy has been the BEST dog I’ve ever seen! She never barks (indoor dog) unless someone rings the door bell or a stranger gets near my daughters , she sleeps with my daughters on the foot of their beds and follow them everywhere , she’s never needed a leash for running or hiking she stays right next to whomever she’s wish and obeys commands perfectly but best of all she’s he most loving dog , loves cats and horses and birds and would sleep next to my ex when she was pregnant then when baby was born she slept next to the crib every night and baby LOVED her , she’d lay on Daisy and give her hugs and kisses and Daisy loved it. Amazing amazing dogs!

I've never owned, no less even known a Golden Retriever very well but they're easily on my top three list of best dogs ever. They're just the best and they're so pretty too. _Wonderful_ animals.
But what many peoples forget is that this breed was made for hunting. Therefore the word Retriever for retrieve. In german it would be translated as bringen (bring/brought). So they need often a lot of activities to satisfy this characteristic.
Their love is unconditional. Humans can learn a lot from them. My wife did not like dogs, but since we got Pepa, our Indian spitz, she has changed a lot. Became passionate and affectionate towards people and animals alike.
My family has a tradition of owning at least one golden retriever at a time. At one point there were five goldens between four people. We keep this tradition up and I’m proud to carry it into the future. Also, same on the separation anxiety.
The only thing stopping me from getting any dog is the fact of saying goodbye forever one day especially with a dog giving you memories like the videos would be very hard to lose them

My Murphy died about 8 years ago. He was the greatest dog ever. I didn't deserve him. I still think about him every day and miss him so much.
