I've had the passage from 3:47 to 4:09 as my ringtone for years. I thought I knew it. I knew the melody alright, and I knew the vocal acrobatics she performed, but I was still surprised just now at how absolutely gorgeous it sounds. Like a nightingale.
Well you can't compare all sopranos because there are many different fachs and not every fach sings everything efficiently so I believe you can compare her to other coloratura or leggera sopranos but to compare her to dramatic sopranos is a bit off since they sing different things. But if by preference you like her above every other singer you have heard regardless of fach or roles etc of course your opinion is respected
She looks like a pre-Raphaelite painting by Bastien Lepage. I never really know who is best, but this is definitely up there on the dais with the other queens. The tone is ravishing, unsurpassed dynamics, and extremely musical. It doesn't sound like a coloratura wind-up doll, but a really sensitive young girl. Very, very beautiful.

I am familiar with many versions of this aria and have just listened to 10 recordings and what surprised me was that singers schooled in the German tradition (Gruberova, Popp, Streich, Hallstein) generally sing this aria better than their Italian/Mediterranean equivalents. Of course, there are now many singers who defy classification who might best be called cosmopolitan but they too sing mainly the Italian repertoire. To my ears Ingeborg Hallstein is the best expotent of pure belcanto singing. The final note as sung by Lucia Popp is peerless - to my ears

English is my first language, when I listen to or attend Operas’ written in English, I always have to read the subtitles to understand them. My hearing is fine. It’s just too difficult to understand all those elongated vowels and light breathy consonants.
