I found this band when I was 13 (I'm 25 now) still one of my top bands. Ghosting was my first song I heard by them. Their music has gotten me through hard times RIP Chuck 🙏 ❤️
I used to listen to Freelance Whales every snowy morning going to university. So for me, Freelance Whales reminds me of light reflecting off of snow, mornings, a beautiful down town and an exciting, changing time in my life.
RIP Chuck. You were a great guy. Wish I'd hugged you harder the one time I got to meet you. Always will be grateful for your existence in this world. You and your band's music still makes it a little easier to live here.
5 years ago a week before my late sister passed I listened to this song. At the time I wasn't aware of how preemptive, let alone convinient it was to find something so beautiful to help me direct my emotions. Because of those days and this band I decided to become a musician. 4 years strong, i'm just sad it took a loss to develop the kind of relationship I have with music now
The brother of one of the band mates (Chuck Criss). He plays Blaine on Glee and is always telling people on his Twitter to go listen to Freelance Whales.
This song is such a lighthearted yet profound contemplation of facing death. I listen to it every once in a while and it never failed to make me cry. RIP Chuck. Thank you for this song.
When I first heard this song i loved it. I never told anyone I knew about it cause I didn’t think they’d like it and find it too different and weird. It’s been 10 years and I still love it now I just don’t care. Beautiful song.
After all, isn’t death just another blind leap, like being born? I’m scared, but at the same time, I always enjoy the new chapters in books. And life. Just flow and fall like a cat.
Combien de fois ai je écouté ce morceau... je ne saurai le dire, mais je ne m'en lasse pas. Il en ressort un optimisme fou et une candeur originale. J'adore, et je le dis.
This album has been the soundtrack to my life for the past 4 years! I never get tired of it and cant understand why more people just dont know! Thank you Freelance whales for these beautiful sounds and poetry that has pulled me out of many dark holes. peace light and love!
Huy Nguyễn because not everyone likes the same music you do. some people would call you weird for listening to this and you would call other weird for listening to other stuff like lil uzi vert or some shit.
I kind of want this song to be played at my own funeral. Although i'm seventeen and I shouldn't be thinking about death, I think this song should be played at my funeral. It's.. just so fantastic.
Someone edited a video of all the generator songs, including a live recording of the one they only play at live shows, but it was deleted. Anyone have any leads? I hate having to hear these songs separated after the joy of hearing them in order.
@cocopuff4567 Yep, Chuck Criss is Darren Crisses brother, check out Darrens twitter he talks about him on there. They are both so talented, and according to Darren, at one point he played the drums for Freelance Whales.
1. I dislike when top comments are replys. maybe its just me but im tired of looking up a comment from months before only to be slightly disapointed. 2. Did any body think of nugs when they saw the beginning of this video? 3. This song is really good. In a time where music has lost touch I want to thank Freelance Whales for giving me hope. Dont let anyone tell you different, you guys are awesome!
I'm gonna assume the title of this song is pronounced "generator *to the* second floor"...? Anyway, love the song~lyrics, sound, odd little video; all of it :) -Katie
@amazingonion i kind of got that idea too. I love this song so much and the fact that there's actually meaning behind it makes me never want to go back to mindless top 40 songs ever again. (:
The original song was written by my friend, a record company he was working with at the time reproduced it into this.. this isn't a bad song or anything, but the original version, "Death of a Child" is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard. I still have the chords and lyrics. It is meant to be played on an acoustic guitar, singer/songwriter kind of stuff. The friend was trying to make and album, but the record company wanted to interfere with the creative process and he quit, thus they took his songs and reproduced them. Their song "Broken Horse" was also written by him, that one stayed closer to his version. Other than (some) of the lyrics, this song is almost unrecognizable.
You could be lying but if you aren't then this is pretty interesting. Kinda disappointing to know the band didn't write their own stuff but that just happens sometimes I guess.
@AnnabelLloyd Oh yeah, they totally support each other. On twitter and in videos they spread the word about each other. They are just plain awesome! I have crazy respect for them!
Did anyone else notice they changed a random word in the song? The line is supposed to be "So when you pull me from the hay" instead it's now "So when you pull me from the bed"
RIP Chuck. You'll be missed, thank you for such beautiful music ❤

This song has the right amount of cowbell.
"Tell me I look stunning and cadaverous" Love that line

Such a beautiful song...
I’d give anything to have them back together and active 💔
Can't believe that's darren criss's brother! AWESOME! Big fan of both.
In my opinion, this song tells us not to be afraid of death. Don't mourn for the deceased, for he/she have lived a long (happy) life.
After all, isn’t death just another blind leap, like being born? I’m scared, but at the same time, I always enjoy the new chapters in books. And life. Just flow and fall like a cat.
Someone on Omegle mentioned this band to me... How I'd love to thank them..
I miss you guys.
Freelance Whales make me happy
My most favorite video ever. I want this song played at my funeral.
4 years later, do you still feel the same?
Dude... what if he died?

Combien de fois ai je écouté ce morceau... je ne saurai le dire, mais je ne m'en lasse pas. Il en ressort un optimisme fou et une candeur originale. J'adore, et je le dis.
OUTSTANDING!!!! One of those mornings that stands out simply because you stumble on something brilliant, like this!
This album has been the soundtrack to my life for the past 4 years! I never get tired of it and cant understand why more people just dont know! Thank you Freelance whales for these beautiful sounds and poetry that has pulled me out of many dark holes. peace light and love!
When that xylophone kicks in, the hair on my entire body stands. Until today, one of the most beautiful, melodic songs; the epitome of good indie.
Your music is always great when it rains ily
almost 5 years ago. and still fall in love. heard this from my high school years.
but why still no views :'(
*****
yes indeed they lived with it. :')
***** the majority of the public are brainwashed and don't think for themselves
Just found this band. This is one of the best songs ever made.
Rest Easy Chuck, thanks for everything

Rocking the Mandolin! I've been looking for these songs for months. just happened to remember a line from this song.
What a beautiful song. You don’t know how you’ve affected me
Just saw them live in concert in Brooklyn, NY....they were amazing. Couldn't love them anymore!!
Truly a gorgeous song.
How have I not seen this sooner? This is my favorite song! Such an amazing video.
Its actually kind of a beautiful idea- when we die, we give our bodies to the earth and it grows into something alive and wonderful.
who still here in 2021
I'm so madly in love with this song.
It's brilliant.
The video and the song are about the acceptance of death. The calavera from the Day of the Dead celebration fit comfortably with the lyrics.
I love this song, it always makes me smile when I listen to it
My best friend recently passed away, and this was the last song we listened to together.
love his voice
never has a band been so hipster and yet so good
Very nice! Bonjour du Sud de la France.
You guys are so good! I’ve discovered your music on anghami! Where are you guys? Do u not make music anymore? 😔🥺

Lydia is amazing, and so is Freelance Whales.
This deserves way more views.
The lyrics are my favorite.

The banjo part is my favorite

@eli12196 Darren played the drums for a short while, when he was still in the band, it was only for a very short time before the band was popular.
gotta love a band with a xylophone
This is such a cool song, and SUCH a cool video!! I love it!!!
this is perfection.
My question is what type of BA parents could produce two kids with such talent! the criss' rock!
Me too! And whats wrong with that? He just introduced us to AWESOME music!
@amazingonion i kind of got that idea too. I love this song so much and the fact that there's actually meaning behind it makes me never want to go back to mindless top 40 songs ever again. (:
See them here in México, they are awesome.

Know anywhere I could listen to the originals?
You could be lying but if you aren't then this is pretty interesting. Kinda disappointing to know the band didn't write their own stuff but that just happens sometimes I guess.
You would have to know him. He received cease and desist letters for playing these songs live in cali over a decade ago.
@tatortotgrl such a creative family
Was on Skins! :D
Amazing song ;)
I know this song for Skins! & really love it :D
@applefieldd I definately agree, they should team up and do something together. That would be amazing!
me encanta ^^
Is there an instrumental version? This is awesome!
When I grow up, I'm going to play the watering can!
@AnnabelLloyd Oh yeah, they totally support each other. On twitter and in videos they spread the word about each other. They are just plain awesome! I have crazy respect for them!
@Nintenemon He's the one with the pink mask at 2:51, which is hilarious to me because of darren and his obsession with his pink sunglasses.
Did anyone else notice they changed a random word in the song? The line is supposed to be "So when you pull me from the hay" instead it's now "So when you pull me from the bed"
Wait! That's the chick from Strung Out's "Cemetery" video!
oh my god i just found out about this band i love them with my life o.o
Don't fix my smile, life is long enough
We will put this flesh into the ground again.
@battlemedic345 haha the lyrics make it sound like it's about death.
why dont these guys make more stuff??
