You are taught to be a man ,atleast in my time if any of a senior term slapped a junior ,boy it was chaos that senior was hammered beyond recognition, no slapping it was taboo but a punch was manly,no harm, similarly, in drill square in those early mornings your limbs ate jammed ,so that jumping is for you to limber up for proper marching,
