Then I got tired of the broker getting half of the load while being home every day I said to myself screw this I did research and got my broker license and eliminated the middle man while at the beginning I struggled to find costumers but it’s not hard and getting all those permits to be your own real boss now it’s not costly it’s a scam to be leased on to a carrier when you have all your equipment push for your authority and broker license if you want to see real money don’t let the broker take your money you could be making 100% specially with fuel up the roof you need that extra cash

Not a scam at all it’s actually smarter to lease on I was about to get my own authority then I found a company paying 88% and I can use any board I want my friend has his own authority and we compared numbers. We got our trucks from the same place so our truck payments are very similar. He pays 650 wkly for a trailer I’ll pay 250. He pays 3k a month for insurance. The carrier I’m leasing on to 5% of their 15% take covers insurance I just have to have my own Bobtail insurance and Liability insurance which is only 1k a month. We both get paid as soon as we drop loads. I don’t have to pay for factoring he does. Once we compared everything yes he makes more up front but he also has to spend more so in the end I actually make more than him 🤓

Problems you can run into, however, is that often times you have to haul that load to get to know the shipper. And usually, if you read the rate confirmation carefully, there is a clause much like an NDA. It's a non compete clause that says you can not haul for that shipper for "X" amount of time. You might get away with it for a while but eventually a broker will sue for breach of contract and now your in a whole new field of weeds.

Keep in mind this is an LTL, trailers can hold 26-30 pallets. this CAN still make a lot of money for the carrier even at this rate for all pallets.

Insurance around .25 cents a mile and the maintenance and up keep is about 20% of gross now so add .50 cents. Taxes plates trailer and on and on so 3.50 is a mileage rate that’s negotiable with a fuel surcharge now a days.

That carrier was a fool. They paid 1500 for fuel and 1000 to the driver at .45cpm. You made 1300 and didn't have to spend that on anything. That's why trucking companies can't make it. When do you think you'll run out of carriers to rip off?

You can't "figure" it out as you go. You need to know your operating costs and what you need to make (profit) to be able to cover your family/household bills. Trying to figure it out as you go along is a recipe for bankruptcy and disaster.

How do you not feel like a real piece of shit knowing you take advantage of drivers that are out on the road sacrificing time away from their families to support their loved ones. You aren’t dealing with being stuck is bumper to bumper traffic… driving in bad weather.. breakdowns.. terrible drivers.. paying for your own fuel and all the other expenses that come with owning your own T truck and authority. You say you don’t take that much on every load but you aren’t talking into consideration that you can book book load with carriers a lot more frequently then a driver can book a load. We book a load and we are on that same load for 1-4 days depending.. but you on the other hand can do about 20 or more a day and don’t see anything wrong with how much you keep for yourself on 1 single load. Why isn’t 10-15% enough for you when you literally can decide how many loads you book each day? It’s because you don’t value the work we do and the sacrifices we make. People like you are what’s wrong with the trucking industry but you are too greedy to see that.

The difference between a broker and a carrier:
A broker doesn’t have to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy a truck and a simple box or a broker doesn’t have too live their beloved ones at home snd and their life and start paying over $6 per gallon no matter what….a broker doesn’t go arrested or doesn’t go in jail or doesn’t go shut in parking lot or sometimes even while driving….a broker doesn’t get stuck 3-4-7 days someplace without any comfort or even income in many cases….I could keep writing a book in this regard.
Worst business a human could get into….truck driver owner operator.
Even driving for WalMart is much better…they offer $100.000 plus benefits.

I would like to gain more knowledge of the broker side of the business, to see if it might be worth the headache. I was thinking since I already own a truck I got one part down would just need to get loads for my truck plus other trucker friends and possibly growing a fleet of trucks this way. But I believe it's taking on another full time job in which would need a driver and now I am back to square one. I guess it all takes time and dedication. Any advice? If this load was a full trailer load I would of imagine a broker at a minimum would ask the shipper for 7k+ and carrier $5500+ let me know if this numbers sound some what acurate. Thanks in advance

I see why so many small truck companies went out of buisness and alot truck drivers quit and also mega carriers than buy the companies out and end up taking these contracts. I honestly can't see how with this type of buisness dealing you will be in buisness for long who ever takes this load will be in the negative for sure. You make more as new driver working for a mega carrier. If you understand the cost, risk, and sacrifice the driver makes you realize how bad the load is but oh well. If your is to use this to go into another business venture like real-estate than it make more sense because the people running these loads won't last and when you can find drivers you will lose those contracts to mega carriers and as a guy who works with a mega carrier I see it all time with them buying out smaller companies and constantly get new contracts.

He is doing brokerage for a reason. The point is there needs to be laws to regulate freight brokers. Lobby your political leaders and fight to get a 20-25 percenter max take by brokers. They aren't going to pay the truck drivers what they should out the kindness of their heart. They have too much greed. They will justify it with saying they chose their path or the driver doesn't have to take it. The biggest financial risk is on the trucker. The driver does make a fraction of the profit after their cost. Truckers has to spend hours on one load. Brokers send out multiple loads in that time. Truckers need to find a transparent broker and promote that broker. Support that broker.
