    Rick, as a kid I would have said, "yuck!" to split pea soup. But now I love it! Those ham hocks added a ton of flavor, I'm sure. The immersion blender did a great job too, just like your pressure cooker. The soup thickened up beautifully! I would love to have a bowl of this! Great job!

    You are very proficient with the use of a pressure cooker. I have an 8 quart Fagor. I would love to have a smaller electric cooker but I cannot justify the purchase because the Fagor is a real work horse piece of machinery of great quality although its size is way beyond my current needs. Good for you for cooking for your sons. Your techniques are quick & easy to follow.

    It turned out great! I was apprehensive because the instruction manuel suggested not to make split pea but it was wonderful.

    I'm from down South, and you know me, I don't eat ham hocks. LOL. I've never had, split peas, but this creamy soup looked good. I need you to send me some when I have my surgery. Really, I need some good, cook ahead, type meals to stock up on for when I do have surgery.

    I can't believe you didn't use the ham hock meat, it wouldn't have taken that long to debone it, I make this myself, maybe 10 min tops, it's good meat, other then that it looks good, I just bought a pressure cooker, I've always made this on my stop top, I will try this...my mom says you're suppose to wash the peas first they might have small stones in them, reason we say that is we HAVE gotten small stones in the bag before

    • @CookingwithRick
      @CookingwithRick  8 лет назад

      +IAMdevilwomen Hi Devil, I didn't use the ham hock meat cause the ham hocks gross me out. I wasn't sure I could wash the peas being so small. Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it.

      I recommend using the ham SHANKS next time, they have more meat on them, thats what I use when I make it, easier to debone too, I used to use hocks but like you said too much fat, and it grossed me out...plus smoked ham shanks taste better and like I said have more meat...

      IAMdevilwomen That's a great tip and will try the shanks instead of the hocks , thank you from Northern Canada guy.

    Great recipe, this really looks delicious! Love the opening photo on this video! LOL! That's what I imagine would happen if I used a pressure cooker. I am sure the new ones like yours are much safer than my Nanas was. TFS, have a great evening! Liza :)

      o, yes, my grandmother had an old-time pressure cooker with clamps or something. Once she didn't tighten it right and the ceiling got the brunt of it.
      My pressure cooker is the new old-fashioned, from 1996 with the little spigot thing in the middle of the cover. It works just fine, and I have no reason to be concerned with its safety.

      Funny! I like how he said Southerners would lose their minds. My wife hates ham hocks AND gravy of any kind. I accuse her of being un American for this. She is probably a leftover Soviet mole from the cold war. But I love her!

      i'd do the same thing, but I don't have dogs... its all about adding things in for the flavor, not necessarily because you want to eat that thing.

    Great video and I'm going to use this recipe but with Italian sausage. I used Italian sausage one time because I didn't have ham and wanted split pea and just loved the taste. First time cooking split pea with my new Pressure cooker. Your intro is clever but way to long, great otherwise.

    Dude, you would rather use regular salt, than the salt and flavor of the meat of ham hocks. That's why you're getting a thumbs down.
