@@vcrclock Corsair have provided PSUs with the NVIDIA style connector. One now has to wonder if their (inferior?) cables are not reporting such information to the GPU.
That Corsair Rep better get a stern talking to from his bosses......he made their company look like fools. "Hey guys, I'm not gonna tell you I'm right......I'm gonna let NVIDIA themselves put Mr. Bullshit in his place"
This point is unusually stupid though because Nvidia is the company that makes the GPU and that cable is in specs that Nvidia maintains since it determines how the GPU responds. It surprises me that some Corsair rep didn't understand that they should contact Nvidia, and they probably didn't even watch the GN video. So this is unusual stupidity. Not surprising though as more arrogant people move into positions and this will become more common unfortunately at least in regards to US markets because that's the direction the US population in general is heading, towards uneducated arrogance.
@@Taylexwow Yeah. I'm not buying another Corsair product ever again unless they provide an apology. Absolutely childish and they destroyed their reputation.
@@Taylexwow So from my understanding from digging into reddit, is that NVIDIA possibly gave incorrect schematics a while back to corsair which is why they were aggressive on this topic, because they thought they were right on how things worked. Obviously, we know now that this is not how it works. I have not looked at the schematics and I think you could find this information, but this all happened (including the reps call out of GN in this video) in GN's discord which I think you need to be a patreon member to have access to.
The dunk on corsair was unbelievable. At first I though they were gonna be able to argue about semantics and be able to get away scorch free. Aha. Imagine that. Corsair tried to dumb down Steve. Heh, heh. Like bombing down mainstream academia. While establishment institutions still say Egypt was made with cheap bronze monkey tools, (200 yrs. How does that goes with Jay2C checking that cable adapter sense cables go 'nowhere'? ruclips.net/video/_z58lEnnX1k/видео.html - "Dummy sideband wires" ? What now? Corsair was right all along that some adapters are not made to the spec, or that NVidia did sent some that are not made to actually sense it (as there were no f-ing PSU at that time with the 12HPVR connectors) ?

@@barnett25 Just because you don't have any idea of the functional use of the information doesn't mean that it isn't useful. @@barnett25 I think it's just good to have the data. And I wouldn't call this video a review, as the title implies it's a deep dive. This is also good to keep companies honest. But if there was an extreme flaw or weakness in the manufacturing or really any kind of corners cut, this data will tell you. Without people like GN we wouldn't know why certain products were better than others or why certain things last longer.
Really pleasing to see that all of the revenue from the GN store and patreons etc gets pumped straight back into vastly improving the testing setup. The demo is one thing. (There were cuts so it's like, eh. I get it, run time and the video's not about that. Just a nitpick.) To me what's more impressive is having freaking Nvidia's GeForce product manager in GN's studio walking Steve through the design on camera, and in no uncertain terms completely annihilating Corsair's rep. It's not even GN versus Corsair. There's no room for interpretation. Either Nvidia's product manager was lying, or Corsair's rep is full of shit-and something tells me it's not the former.
GN reviews are so in depth, I wouldn't be surprised if Steve introduced the RTX 7090 by discussing his team's discoveries using their Scanning Electron Microscope
Hopefully by then they've managed to get their cards (and prices) under control and chill out on their shitty business practices, or else AMD has closed the gap completely. Kind of expecting that's around the time I'll want to start looking to replace my 3080 xD
Really nice to hear my issue with cyberpunk not saving settings was not just me. Was benchmarking my 4gb Rx 5500 Xt in cyberpunk and decided to do 1440p max expecting an fps mess... only to see basically equal performance. Paused the game to see if I'd set the correct preset (I did) and once I unpaused did the FPS take the nosedive I expected. Sucks because all my prior test results were invalid, but good to hear I didn't have anything wrong on my end.
I wonder if Corsair is designing their cables without the IC so it doesn't know how many cables are plugged in? It seems like a bad decision but if they did that then I can see why the Corsair representative would say that the original GN video was wrong because their cable doesn't know how many cables are plugged in, while GN was working with Nvidia's cable which does know how many cables are plugged in.
@@Krytern we'll see when they release the NVIDIA tech video later but seems like the card won't go over 450W TDP unless an active adaptor or cable is used
more likely it's a PR representative who doesn't know how the Nvidia adapter for the 40xx cards works and only think in how the cables are made for the old cards, which were all brute force power draw. But then Corsair also still supply pigtail cables with their power supplies, which means they allow pulling 300 W on a single PCIE/EPS12V connector

I find the Schlieren testing to be very intriguing - perhaps because it is not something seen elsewhere in this space - kudos GN team! If I may, perhaps you have/will consider a Schlieren test on the triple fan graphics cards where manufacturers have the adjacent fans to the middle unit in alternate (rotating anti-clockwise but still as a intake for the cooler)? From what is said on the suggested benefits, creating a "smoother" flow (Gigabyte), it would be most interesting to see the claim(s) tested and what, if any, learnings can be applied to other cooling processes; 360 AIO/radiator fan situations, etc. Although I imagine a community member knowledgeable in fluid dynamics, etc. may be able to kindly comment on the theoretical benefit to a flow through design in the differing triple-fan scenarios??
@@AmmarAbotouk no knowledge of fluid dynamics, but doesn't really pass my sniff test. "Smoother" airflow was a big racket in the car tuning world for years. Unless we're approaching race spec engines, doesn't matter how "bumpy" the air is. It's tiny gains you're getting from the smoothness. More important to have enough/unrestricted airflow.
@@capnskiddiesif you were racing these fans, sure, the bumpy air wouldnt matter. but the reversed fan airflow isnt for energy efficiency, speed efficiency, or cooling efficiency- it was solely to minimize the turbulence, which makes the fans run quieter.
I'm really not sure what would possess the Corsair rep to jump-in with incorrect information. Even derbauer had more or less shown this in one of his 4090 vids after cutting one of his adapters open. This is pure speculation, but I'm wondering if this rep has an axe to grind with GN specifically because of negative coverage towards Corsair in the past. Considering the language used, it seems like the intention was to discredit, rather than making a helpful correction.
@@atavusable $5 says his new position is what they'd call "internal-facing" 😉 To be fair, also, the Corsair person is *probably* correct about any other given card on the market (ie. The imaging test you do is a variance of the Foucault test used by amateur telescope mirror makers to test the concave paraboloidal mirror during figuring. If you press your thumb on the mirror for a few seconds, the thermal expansion will be magnified about a million times and look like a mountain. It's all down to the wave nature of light and even a simple rig will produce incredibly accurate results. This takes me back fifty years when I made my first telescope mirror.
Evga didn’t at any point seem to be taking their decision lightly or shortsighted. They’ve been in the game with nvidia since they started, and in the end they probably tolerated nvidias shit for so long that by proxy their reputation probably fed into how other gpu companies were willing to break the bank on this generation. They didn’t know evga was already out.
They pulled out, quickly wiped off and left the building in a hurry. We all should have seen this as a sign the nvidia brothel was about to be raided and everyone inside has syphilis.
Will be interesting to see how long it takes for partners to fall out of fashion. From what EVGA said about Nvidia, it seems like they'd like to get rid of them, and with Intel entering the GPU market I don't see the FTC doing anything in terms of anti monopoly to protect the partners.
wouldn't entirely rule out ftc complaints tho - i've heard of the ftc successfully defining the relevant market as much smaller than what one would normally see as the relevant market in court
nVidia needs at least one partner to manufacture the cards. They might be able to do it themselves but it's comparatively unprofitable - plus they'd have to set up infrastructure first.
Doubt it, at least for now, mostly because Nvidia only sells in a few specific markets, and not globally. I can't get a FE card where I live for example, I'd need to either visit the States to get one or have someone there buy one and bring/ship it to me. So partners, at least for now, do bring something to the table, and it's not related to the cards themselves.
Growing to like these in-depth testing at the hardware level instead of the usual gaming performance and such that almost anyone can do... it shows the other aspects that make it click. Awesome to see the air movement and internal workings of why it is engineered the way it is!
Thanks Steve and team for doing reviews like this. Im just waiting now for Corsair to show up in comments and go no were not wrong your wrong like my 3 yr old. I honestly use you all for reference when working with my College students to help show them why they need to really master their materials.
For the Schlieren imaging, I feel like it might be useful to draw on screen to bring attention to the air currents you are talking about. Maybe while its paused you can briefly draw a line showing where and what direction its blowing, then remove the line and play the frame by frame. As an enthusiast I'm still quite unfamiliar with looking at these images and the chaotic nature can make it difficult to discern the direction of the currents.
I would also like to suggest overlaying the silhouette of the card with an image or video of the actual card. A step beyond that would be overlaying both of those onto an image of a motherboard inside a case.

The extra space you have now is really improving the presentation of your testing. awesome!
A guy that was promoted out of the technical side with the habitude to say incorrect things or doesn't double check.
@@atavusable $5 says his new position is what they'd call "internal-facing" 😉
To be fair, also, the Corsair person is *probably* correct about any other given card on the market (ie. Nvidia 3000/2000 series, AMD, Intel; not "other" 4000 series cards), so had they been promoted out any length of time ago it does make sense they'd say what they did. Maybe just should have said it as a question, to their nvidia contact, privately... y'know?
Thank you so much for adressing the Cyberpunk issue. I was very happy to see my 6700xt run raytracing in 4k with FSR enabled, but after a reboot of the game it didn't seem to have the same performance anymore. I figured it out myself, but to see comfirmation of that is great! Nice work!
The only channel I know that actually fights for the little guy and exposes some of the larger companies! Thank you Steve
I absolutely love this format: not just sharing data, but also the lab process. You guys are really one step above!
Love the Schlieren stuff. Would love to see some of the other cards with flow through designs but more standard fan types.
It does not get more "checkmate" than this, congrats to you guys.
Is there any way of giving this video two thumbs up?
I don't think I can properly articulate how impressed this video. I've been watching your content since right before the 10 series launched. And the quality of the content and level detail that you keep adding is impressive. I remember how excited you were when you first got the mirror for the Sheeran imaging. Didn't understand it at the time. But I thoroughly watched the original explanation video of what it was even though I had no idea what I was watching. Feel like this video and the way you broke down the air flow off the different parts of the GPU is what you had in mind all those years ago.
I know this time of year is super exciting for you guys and it's a crazy amount of work you have to do with all of the CPU and GPU launches. Try to get some rest and take care of yourselves.
I'm kicking myself for not getting that awesome skeleton shirt.
I'm looking forward to your videos on the partner cards. After watching Jay's video on the partner card he just did my first thought was EVGA's decision to leave GPU space makes perfect sense. I went to Best buy's website and saw how Nvidia is undercutting everybody. It's insane that the partners are charging up to $400 more for only three to six FPS. I can't wait to see your content on the subject. I believe Jay did everything at stock settings. I don't recall if he didn't overclocking. I was half watching the video while working.
Well said matey. Lovely, thorough and informed review from the GN team once again 👏
Corsair always blame others.
They just don’t want to improve their products !
I also note that their PSU prices are also increasing steadily. That is one of the reasons why I stopped using Corsair PSUs in the past year.
@@fleemwings207 literally every psu manufacturer increased the prices
dont they make good products tho?
they have like the best, or at least most affordable budget psu's, their keyboards seem good (im rocking the k60), i mean
honest question, i really dont know
@@fleemwings207 All PSU prices are increasing, that’s not just Corsair. Once $35-$50 EVGA PSUs are selling for $60+…
The only bullshit is corsair. Their RAMs are by large the worst, with bins mismatching even in the same kit, their quality generally went down and their software is so disgusting I even switched out form their keyboards, just fuck Corsair.
That situation with Corsair is hilarious but more concerning than anything considering they're a PSU supplier.
No company is a hive mind, and what one employee says does neither represent the opinion of any other employee, nor is it representative of their collective knowledge base. Someone at Corsair messed up. Not Corsair messed up.
More than likely the peer reviews were by other pr reps and not that actual engineers soooo

EVGA got it at first glance, after a long relation NVIDIA is not longer interested.
It is heart warming to see a marketing statement answered with a clear, scientific and truthful answer. As little as it can be for you, for this professional behaviour you have my sub 👍
Cyberpunk preset info is an example of great reviewing and knowing what you are working with instead of lazy putting it on a bench with a highest preset without any more tests. You are a great channel, keep up.
Something from the cyberpunk devs would have been interesting.
This is one of the best examples of a GN own, ever. Corsair messed with the wrong media outlet.
Oh god is that what this channel has become?

that corsair rep trashing guru3d and gamersnexus, arguably the two best and inarguably most technical review sites out there, is both baffling and hilarious
Yeah, Jays2cents was saying the same thing as well.
It's equally baffling seeing so many people in these comments leaping to the conclusion that Corsair as a whole is some trash tier company over what some brain-dead rep said.
@@darudesandstorm7002 it's in the title man the guy is called rep, short for representative. It's the person who the company have chosen to represent themselves to the world so yeah. What else can we take it as if the company chose trash to represent themselves?

the Schlieren test itself is super interesting but the footage is just mesmerizing to watch.

fantastic work with the thermal imaging. testing manufacturer claims with science and visual evidence like this is amazing.
glad to see my mouse mat and shirt purchases go to something so cool!
Man, i don't watch this channel often, but I really liked how you cleared things up with facts, and did not get lost in arguing with others that were in the wrong. Very professional, I really like the video and the presentation, well done!
Using the gigabyte power supply to “prop” up wires so it’s “safe” is a nice touch
Damn! That one went woooosh over my head till you explained it. Now I can’t stop laughing. Well done
I watch your reviews because they’re the most in-depth “total BS” ones out there. You guys rock.
hahaha
I love this channel, I'm new but I've already learned so much. I can't wait to build my own PC one day. This is coming from a guy who thought he'd never be able to build one on his own. It's all thanks to y'all!
This video is a perfect example of why I ONLY rely on GN for True, Accurate, Well explained benchmarks and technological information. Thank you GN Staff for all your hard work and Willingness to rise above the rest.
I was considering buying a PSU and the Corsair seemed like a good choice. But it looks like the company that makes the power supplies does not know how the power supply works for one of the key components of the computer.
I mean it's not like representatives know anything about PSU's. I'm sure the engineering team is more competent

GN, you are a bless for the tech consumers 🙏 Always standing your ground and fighting for what's fair and right. You truly the Professional
Keep up the good work, Steve and all of the GN's team
The imaging test you do is a variance of the Foucault test used by amateur telescope mirror makers to test the concave paraboloidal mirror during figuring. If you press your thumb on the mirror for a few seconds, the thermal expansion will be magnified about a million times and look like a mountain. It's all down to the wave nature of light and even a simple rig will produce incredibly accurate results. This takes me back fifty years when I made my first telescope mirror.
Excellent video. Unmatched testing process and transparency. This is why I love GN
We all should have seen this as a sign the nvidia brothel was about to be raided and everyone inside has syphilis.
dream job right here. most of my friends aren't nearly down the hole of pc stuff as me. im basically my groups tech support. .-. Thanks Steve!
Oh man that prime directive reference waaaaas nerdy. And I freaking loved it.
Yes the presets in Cyberpunk are often wrong and I manually adjust and they work.
This is what I have been thinking. I'd be surprised if Intel goes for having any partners at all.
@@Krytern Intel also manufactures their own chips, and bought the latest EUV machinery this time before TSMC. Not sure they'd need partners.
Growing to like these in-depth testing at the hardware level instead of the usual gaming performance and such that almost anyone can do... it shows the other aspects that make it click. Awesome to see the air movement and internal workings of why it is engineered the way it is!
Level of SOP and detail in your reviews is amazing
Thanks Steve and team for doing reviews like this. Im just waiting now for Corsair to show up in comments and go no were not wrong your wrong like my 3 yr old. I honestly use you all for reference when working with my College students to help show them why they need to really master their materials.
I really like the superimposed pressure map on the die. That is much more visually pleasing than just the pressure map itself.
A step beyond that would be overlaying both of those onto an image of a motherboard inside a case.
this channel has gotten so in depth over the years its peak nerding out
Thank you! Your content is far above the others
