@@Freakymum1645 yeah same here… I actually made a roasted turkey breast and made only two or three of my favorite sides… I made a cherry cobbler and some pumpkin bread. I have to admit I was sad about not having the whole family here. But dammit, I did not want to miss out on the food, especially if I’m gonna be the one to cook it! Lol. I hope your evening was peaceful and it looks like you and your son enjoy each other’s company.❤️😉
Hey Freakymum! Hope you’re doing good. One thing I don’t see is how the anti kickback protection works on that saw, so can’t really safely advise you on it. Now from a hillbilly perspective, you could always cut the gray piece off the saw all together on the bottom since it’s not fitting properly with the carving bar anyway, so your chain can be loose. With a carving bar the chain has to have some sag because there’s no sprocket on the end of the bar, so it totally depends on oil to help it glide along the nose and needs to be somewhat loose so it easily tracks around the corner. I’m not saying any of that’s a good idea and I don’t want to see you get hurt, but if you’re gonna use it anyway that’s what I would do to it, lol. Not advising any of it. Remember hillbillies get hurt a lot haha. Neat tool and appreciate the video though
@@BearandtheBossLady thank you so much! I didn’t know all that about carving bars and chains and I really need the help lol. Yeah, I’m not sure about the anti-kickback protection either on the saw, so I’ll just have to buckle under and get the more expensive Stihl battery saw. I’ll just make it a really big Christmas present to myself. You know, I must be a hillbilly too, because I tend to hurt myself on accident all the time lol. Thanks again 🙏😃
I myself used to log(not by choice) when I moved to Montana in '90 and had a stihl 028 and an 044 . The 028 would have been my choice for carving but had to get rid of them. I now reside in Texas and had to get a saw for yard work....i really liked the DeWalt line up of battery tools and got a 12" chainsaw. WHAT A PIG 🐖! I'm very sorry for purchasing that thing because it way over uses the oil ( come on I used to own real saws) but when you run it you can visibly see the oil spraying off the end of the bar..YUK and when it's in storage it leaks oil....YUK CRAP and i think it has some kind of sensor in it so if you want to get in the wood deeper/harder the stupid saw will stop running.( Obviously some kind of crappy safety feature) I wanted to try to carve with this thing but not with it's oil over usage 😞 AND I would not recommend that saw for anyone!
Dewalt always used to be so good. I used to work and everybody had dewalt everything 25 years ago. Anyways, I love tool talk! 😊❤️💐🎉 I’ve been pretty happy with my Milwaukee Fuel stuff so far, I just ordered a Milwaukee fuel cordless Dremel.
I got a cordless Dremel from Harbor Freight, what a disappointment.it came with the flex shaft is why I bought it and had to get the corded Dremel from Harbor Freight and the flex shaft didn't swap. OKAY so I Frankensteined it together so it would work and did so for a while. Then I got a DREMAL 4300 and flex shaft and what a difference. My Dad always said buy the best and buy it once. I'm telling you he was right. And that chain saw has too much oil pump for what it is! But I learned a valuable lesson,I should have got another Stihl saw!
I would suggest not using that saw for carving. In my opinion it's dangerous and not suitable for wood carving. It appears that the bar that come with the saw is 0.43 gauge and your carving bar is 0.50 gauge. This would explain the size difference once fitted. As far as the chain catching the body of the saw (it is in fact hitting the chain catcher) you are correct in saying that it would be a problem. Please don't risk it. If you can carve outside the best small saw by far is the echo 2511wes. Much better than a stihl msa70 battery saw. But all said and done just my opinions. ❤
Thank you, you have saved me. I am thinking of getting a stihl mss 70, as I can’t carve outside, and need something quieter, but in a perfect world I would like to have one of those echo baby gas saws, that would be awesome. 🎉🎉
If any of my woodcarving friends have any advice about anything in this video I would really appreciate the help, thank you all!
