You're a God of Sega Master System games knowledge, can you tell me the name of this 2 player game with a bald male character with black glasses dressed iin green and a female character dressed in red, they were both wearing jet packs & would shoot the games creatures. My Sister & I played it as kids & for nostalgia I'd love to play it again. Any help appreciated.
Looking back at this I can't believe all these games were for the sega master system! That system was really ahead of its time, I mean for 1986 those graphics are awesome. Too bad sega messed up with the Genesis.
dude, awesome vid. i can't begin to count the number of hours i spent playing my SMS in my youth. some incredible games that bring me right back. kung-fu kid, shinobi and r-type? goddamn, these games were the bomb.
I missed the opportunity to have a MS as a kid, but I just recently bought one, and it's an impressive system. Especially when you look at how good some of MS versions of the game look when compared to the Genesis versions as previously mentioned. Great underrated system.
great list mate! totally forgot about psycho fox and lord of the sword until i saw them in this vid.. will def have to get a hold of them and give them another go, cheers :D
47Wonderboy/1:48DoubleDragon/2:18Shinobi/3:32Moonwalker/3:48PhantasyStar Most people's fav Master System game including mine.It had some of the best graphics for it's time. The Skyrim of it's time./4:00GhoulsandGhosts/5:46SpaceHarrier/6:25Zillion A gem alot of you missed./7:32PenguinLand Need angermanagement after playing/8:05Spellcaster Reminded me of Ryu maybe my second fav game/8:45Ninja Everyones fav/There you go,my favs and a damn good list for you.Looks like I missed out on some good ones.
I've got virtualy all the UK SMS releases. Somehow my SMS collection still looks more impressive than most of my recent stacks. Mind you I didn't know there was a SMS version of Baku Baku or Dynamite Heady. Alas SMS was a hidiously underated machine and did some awesome games.
Battletoads only ever came out in Brazil, there's this Brazilian company called Tec toy who struck a deal with Sega to handle all their products in Brazil, The Master System was massive over there and stayed around for ages, Tec Toy got ahold of a lot of the games made at the end of the Master Systems lifespan that had been abandoned and gave them Brazilian releases.
1.10 is Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is a very good game sadly overlooked due to it's film licence tie-in status 3.15 is Powerstrike/Aleste When I get around to it there will definately be a list of games.
Those were all made for the Master System too. In fact there are quite a few Sonic games for the Master System. Sega re-released many of their older games on the Genesis.
Godo video! I missed some games I had (in fact, I still have!): Blade Eagle 3D, Zaxxon and Alien Storm - awesome game! The ones i like more: The Lucky Dime Caper, Wonderboy, Psycho Fox, Alex K in Shinoby World. There are also: Capitain Silver (misc of various fairy taleS), Indiana Jones and the last crusade, Paper Boy and California games! You should play!
I play my SMS all the time. Controllers still work. My buddy and I play Great Baseball a lot, our games can get quite heated! I'm still trying to beat Alien Syndrome. Just finished Shinobi the other day, haven't done that since 1989. Awesome system.
Road Rash on the Master System is incredible, as is Golden Axe (which I actually prefer to the Megadrive version) It was a very powerful 8-bit machine (the dungeons in Phantasy Star...I remember when I first saw those and my jaw dropped, still looks impressive even now). Thanks to its success in Europe, the SMS picked alot of third party support.
@braswellrichard the name of the game is "The Ninja" and it was released in 1986. It was the first game I've ever played on SMS. It was marvellous ! :) P.s. In European version, there's an easter egg before the last stage. C u !
those were the real games that all was fun nice and hourrrrrssss of happiness , to explore all the graphics and many more , such time will never exist anymore sadly , all games from now are similar and boring , ah i so much enjoyed those times and still do master system, nintendo, mega drive, atari, commodore, the best of the best if it was possible i would give this video 1000000 stars for the nostalgia and the good feeling it brings , thank you jesusarnold
I've never had the chance to play any of these games except for a couple pots on the Game Gear... I have never even seen an SMS in person before. I've only seen the Genesis adapter once, and it was expensive as hell. If I had the chance to play any of these, I would jump at the chance.
i had 30 of of those games, although some of them i had on the sega megadrive and the sega gamegear .... i miss sega consoles i wish they would release a new one
okay now. that Streets Of Rage action was missing the epic clack sound as a baddie's cranium is busted by Axel's pipe...and it was CERTAINLY in need of them kickin' Yuzo Koshiro techno rave jams.
master system the first games console i ever owned and the first one that was worth owning. i did not realize it had a version of baku baku my faviorite saturn puzzle game. The master system was the best games console of its time with games like danan, alex kid, shinobi, the ninja and many more.
Can anyone remember a game for MS that was a 30's shooting mob game?? It was like in 1st person, and only showed a silhouette of yourself? It was like viruta cop, with the screen moving by herself(in 2d, of course), and you aiming and shooting....
Yeah Sega was pretty popular when I lived in New Zealand, barely saw many NES's, I just think it deserved more success then it got, it was a brilliant 8-Bit console.
@andypekas According to the list at the link in the description, it's called 'The Ninja'. They didn't have to be terribly creative with their titles back then, so it's completely plausible.
I'd love them to re-release a master system with built in games, would have to modelled on the original console though not the master system 2. Loved the video great memories, who needs 3-D graphics when you have gameplay like this.
goto say, a big part of the awesomeness of the oldschool games are the music, so sad to see you din't include it, and therefor i dint not watch your video
I'm fairly sure that's Wonder Boy III, but there were a couple more in this video that looked like that game. I think it might be Wonder Boy in Monster Land.
Yeah the MS version of Robocop Vs Terminator really is quite nice, it's biggest problem is that it's a bit easy unfortunately, still a great game though. Every Master System emulator gave me problems with one game or another, I actually couldn't get The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy to run at all whilst recording so had to leave it out in the end :(
the sega master system was ahead of its time, the graphics already comes close looking like 16-bit graphics & pretty much puts the NES to shame but sadly the SMS lacked of sound & units
The music in the background sounds like a Genesis/SNES Song. By the way, someone makes a homebrew Cart with 100 SMS and Game Gear games on it for Game Boy Advance
Oh my gods, Mercs!!! One of the best Master System game ever played. Last time I played it was in 1994. I think I will play it again one of these days! :) ps. have you ever played Golfamania, Cyber-Shinobi or Rescue Mission? I don't see them in the list! :)
0:23-0:28 I remember when Robocop came out there was a backlash from parent groups that the way the enemies died was "too bloody" (you can see this in the clip). It seems silly looking at it now and compareing to games on the Xbox or PS3. How the times change.
I was good at Alex Kidd - loved that game. I think Sega games all have a look, and so do Nintendo, you can often tell if its Sega or Nintendo without knowing, I think. Sega was my fave, although I did own a Gameboy ,NES,Super NES, and N64.

I was thinking the same thing. It's because Nintendo pushed to have a lot of exclusive games from third party (by contract, games couldn't appear on other consoles) whereas Sega pushed their own games out.
@JBOPatrick i live in the uk and everyone i know had a master system i don't know anyone that had a nes. fact is the nes only got anywhere because of america
I still got my SMS. It's a shame it didn't fare better against the NES. To this day no games collection looks as good as a stack of those lovely white boxes.
what the name of the game at 8.25? I had that one years ago but for some reason we got rid of console and games. it brought back memories so i am curious
i don't know why Master system came out with the Cart adaptor for Game Gear, but at least Sega kept the same concept of Game Gear games on the Master System unlike Nintendo and Gameboy. I have the adapter, don't use it anymore, I went to Emulators unfortunatley. I remember that cost 25 bucks back then.

@@AlTheRelic Sounds like you're talking about 'Quartet'.
Looking back at this I can't believe all these games were for the sega master system! That system was really ahead of its time, I mean for 1986 those graphics are awesome. Too bad sega messed up with the Genesis.
The Master system had really top quality 8 bit graphics! and what a brilliant back catalog
Master system 2 was the shit in its day. So many good memories
wow, I didn't know the Sega Master was so advanced for its time! It looks almost as good as a Snes.
such a great machine
I did not know they had Sonic games before the genesis. Mind blown! The Sega Master system was pretty damned good!
Wow, this system looks fun as hell. I should get this.
So many wonderful memories with the Sega Master System. I'm happy that i was growing up with both Sega and Nintendo.

The Master system/GG version of sonic 2 was awesome. as good as the megadrive ones
great vid and great choice of songs, star guitar is a great track

Some that i just played the frists level, becouse in that time the game was too hard for me
@copali The first song is Star Guitar by The Chemical Brothers
I play my SMS all the time. Controllers still work. My buddy and I play Great Baseball a lot, our games can get quite heated!
I'm still trying to beat Alien Syndrome. Just finished Shinobi the other day, haven't done that since 1989.

Star guitar chemical brothers.....1 of my fav songs ever
nice video takes you back n tear drop what a choon

the second song: massive attack-teardrop-
the first i don't know! i need to know too!
i had 30 of of those games, although some of them i had on the sega megadrive and the sega gamegear .... i miss sega consoles i wish they would release a new one
okay now. that Streets Of Rage action was missing the epic clack sound as a baddie's cranium is busted by Axel's pipe...and it was CERTAINLY in need of them kickin' Yuzo Koshiro techno rave jams.
i still have my master system with its card game slot and a few cards, might be worth a few quid now especially as it still has its box...
My favorite was Alexx Kid.
Sega Master System 2 was my first sega console and Alex kid was my first sega game. Im gonna go cry now.
master system the first games console i ever owned and the first one that was worth owning. i did not realize it had a version of baku baku my faviorite saturn puzzle game. The master system was the best games console of its time with games like danan, alex kid, shinobi, the ninja and many more.
that would be rainbow island. It was also a big hit in my local arcade
Can anyone remember a game for MS that was a 30's shooting mob game?? It was like in 1st person, and only showed a silhouette of yourself?
It was like viruta cop, with the screen moving by herself(in 2d, of course), and you aiming and shooting....
@dylanacious Still that's the beauty of RUclips. You can see all your favourite bits at the push of a button.

I don't think I saw one sports game. Great baseball rocked, there was a pretty cool hockey game too but I forgot the name.
OMG! Psycho Fox was fantastic too !
@frenchfrey65 Thank God u mentioned that name i remembered just by that picture that i played the game but had no idea what it was.
Yeah the MS version of Robocop Vs Terminator really is quite nice, it's biggest problem is that it's a bit easy unfortunately, still a great game though.
Every Master System emulator gave me problems with one game or another, I actually couldn't get The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy to run at all whilst recording so had to leave it out in the end :(
the sega master system was ahead of its time, the graphics already comes close looking like 16-bit graphics & pretty much puts the NES to shame

Ahh... nostalgia....thoses were the days...
ps. have you ever played Golfamania, Cyber-Shinobi or Rescue Mission? I don't see them in the list! :)
@Piastunkaa Its called "ghostbusters"
0:23-0:28 I remember when Robocop came out there was a backlash from parent groups that the way the enemies died was "too bloody" (you can see this in the clip). It seems silly looking at it now and compareing to games on the Xbox or PS3. How the times change.
thank you for the info
OMG fLASHBACK AT 4:07. i USE TO PLAY THAT GAME FOREVER.
These are all Master System games. They released a lot of games (Golden Axe, Sonic) on both platforms.
I was good at Alex Kidd - loved that game.
I think Sega games all have a look, and so do Nintendo, you can often tell if its Sega or Nintendo without knowing, I think. Sega was my fave, although I did own a Gameboy ,NES,Super NES, and N64.
So quality titles in there..............happy days
epic games, awesome music
its hang-on, the finest motorcyle game ever. EVER I TELLS YA! came built in my mastersystem with safari hunt.
06:40 ?? Omg I loved this game, any ideas what it was called pleeease
+Steven Coulter “AirRifleBushcraft”
Urban Strike
+bcnabel76
DESERT STRIKE, Sorry ;)
+Feral Potato desert strike i think
alot of the magic that comes from the nostalgia of old school games (especially for people who actually played them in their heyday and not only on an emulator) are their music. i voted a like for the video just for the video footage of the games but a huge boo goes out to the producer for not including the original game audio.
@zickbone But 6 seconds of music isn't nearly enough for a proper sample. And considering how varied the games in this video are, as much as I love old-school videogame music, 6 seconds of audio from random games strung together would just sound like noise. They couldn't get 100 samples of videogame music into one video cleanly and still fit it onto RUclips.
Hey :)
That game is ' Heroes Of The Lance '
Where's the list link? And what's the game at 1:13? Dat was very good! I was like 5 when I was tryin to beat it, now I'm 28 and stil smile bout it
Thank you !
alien storm was awesome, also fantasy zone the maze
I keep seeing comments about SMS games saying ,"great considering the limitations" ...well the SMS was clearly not that limited because the games all look great. I owned an Amiga in those days but if I could go back I'd tell myself to buy a SMS (aswell)
the happiest 10 mins of my day (i'm in work today!).many thanks great vid, can anyone tell me what game is 9:28-9:34 though?
depends if you can find the right connectors.. what inputs does the tv have? what outputs does the master system have? Im not 100% sure, but hooking up my NES to my led tv was as easy as buying a composite cable
Hey :)
That game is ' Wonderboy in monster world '
(NOT to be confused with Wonderboy in monster land)
Can someone please tell me what is the name of the racing game at 3:10? I remember I loved it and played it much as a kid. I made a great mistake some years ago and let my parents convince me to give my Master System 2 to some kid. Now I am nostalgic about it and the few games I had (this game, Alex Kidd and one or two others, I got the console from Germany and it was absolutely impossible to get the games for it in Serbia, because of the wars and the sanctions.
i still have my master system, is there anyway i can hook it up to my LED tv?
Didnt see action fighter :( that was a classic
I was thinking the same thing. It's because Nintendo pushed to have a lot of exclusive games from third party (by contract, games couldn't appear on other consoles) whereas Sega pushed their own games out.
Good Taste in music dude!!
Underrated console right here
what the name of the game at 8.25?
I had that one years ago but for some reason we got rid of console and games.
it brought back memories so i am curious
2:52 what is that game with the little squaty flying ship?
great music, great video :)
Love these games! What's the game on 4:32 please?
Thank you =) !
Nice video. Would it be worth trading in a Sega 32X for a master system?
I did not know that, although at the time, i was 7 (lol) I am glad I did have a master system though, double dragon all day long...
i don't know why Master system came out with the Cart adaptor for Game Gear, but at least Sega kept the same concept of Game Gear games on the Master System unlike Nintendo and Gameboy.
