    Social Media is why the Car Culture is dead Social Media is why a lot of things in our modern society is no longer as valued or sacred anymore and horsepower is so numb now it’s crazy especially if you never felt 300HP in your life that’s a lot of horsepower if you never felt it before

    • @aidantanny7230
      @aidantanny7230 10 месяцев назад +21

      Exactly. People who've never driven anything but their Corolla will say that if your car doesn't make 1200hp, it's slow. People have become desensitized to horsepower numbers, and especially the people who've never experienced a 400-500 hp performance oriented car/build.

      Well… their is an in between. Otherwise a scatpack wouldn’t be the most popular sale for dodge. You definitely can build on a scat. Their just not great for boost. It’s okay to have an all motor muscle car and a scatpack is capable of that
      I’ve seen people running 550 to the wheels with stock internals and zero aftermarket supporting mods. Without blowing their engine up. It’s usually the dummies that try to boost them or they try to push 700 wheel without putting anything in there to support it
      Same thing goes for the 6.1 man. Despite the fact that a 6.1 is slightly less powerful. It still makes a great all motor

      Wrong! So wrong. Chrysler bought Lamborghini back in the late 80's. That purchase served as the apparatus for the launch of a certain unrefined and very analog hotrod muscle car named the Viper. The prowler followed that theme and came later, only it was more of a gimmick hotrod that paid homage to yester year, that was more gawk factor than anything else. Dodge viper starting back in the early 90's laid the ground work for the certain division you're referencing. When Chrysler asked Lamborghini to build the viper a better engine, a new company, in its infancy, started to emerge. Hence, the first ever srt performance car.

It really numbs how powerful 300 hp is.

    I think when Ford brought back the retro look for the mustang in 2005, other manufacturers followed suite. Unless im wrong and Chrysler and gm had prototypes already mentioned. Ford did a great job with the design for the 2005-2009 Ford mustang GT. Also, around the same time, Ford made the next gen Ford GT since the 60's. It very closely resembles the classic GT40.

    I would add that the American horse power wars of the 2000s were a direct result of the Japanese horse power wars of the 1990s. Talking the big boys from Japan: Skyline, Supra, Evo, Rx7, WRX/STI.
    I think America and Europe were late to the party in the 1990s but finished strong in the 2000s. Even Mercedes and Audi show up with high horse power in the 2000s. Redlines and AMGs.

    • @zachdebuhr6347
      @zachdebuhr6347 10 месяцев назад

      Yea but in the 90s even with the Japanese competition they still weren't as fast as American cars in the 90s, like the ZR1

    • @camerons6028
      @camerons6028 10 месяцев назад

      @zachdebuhr6347 The ones that got sent to America weren't as fast. The ones that stayed in Japan and the ones that were not imported to America were. Maybe not in a 0 to 60 time, but faster in top speed.

    The S197 Mustang GT absolutely made 305hp just at the fly wheel, and at a minimum 265hp at the wheels, not sure what the point of under cutting it like that other than to be misleading and make some people who dont know better think the car is slow or Ford lied about how much HP it made. Cars always use factory numbers for power at the flywheel and you know that. And 300 HP at the flywheel is still on a 3400-3500 lbs car with 320 lb ft of torque is still a lot of horsepower for most people. For instance the 3 valve mustang is about as fast as a mk 4 supra turbo or a 350Z stock for stock.
    I bring this up not to just cause im a mustang guy and biased, but because in a video about how the horsepower wars killed the car scene for making us numb to power, youre complaining about a 305 hp car not being enough

    My C6 Corvette had a LS2 (400HP). It was FAST, and handled great. It was very fun to drive and didn't need more HP. There is a good balance with HP and handling. More HP does not mean better handling, in most cases it makes it worse.

    Agreed for the most part but I'd like to add that
    A) I personally like the SSR :P
    B) Mopar didn't do it alone, we can also blame stagnant wages (young people can't afford even entry level sports cars anymore) and the proliferation of pickup trucks and SUVs taking over the market segment sedans used to populate (automakers have to build cars as crash compatible to vehicles that weigh 1.5x-2x as much as previous averages and with bumpers several times higher which is also why visibility on modern cars sucks, but therefore small fun cars lose out)
