His thoughts during this particular it was almost like he was imagining what would have been like to see his daughter dressed up for her wedding, in white, walking down the stairs, so beautiful and a man in a tux waiting to take his little girl away. It just makes me tear up. He never got the chance to give her away...
aerie5497 He did in the book. The movie killed the wrong sister. In the book, Anna won her medical emancipation right before being in a car accident that rendered her brain-dead. The lawyer decided to give the kidney to Kate, and Kate never got sick again.
You can never truly express the pain of losing a child or having a child suffer through something you can do nothing about... Jason Patric is an incredible actor in this scene. My heart broke.
Dads are usually in the background when their daughters go to prom, go to a dance, go out on a date, etc... the daughter is usually occupied with the mom, aunt, grandma, etc. helping her do her hair, make up, pictures and whatever else... but the one person that is always silently there as a protector, leader, and sometimes as a spectator admiring the most beautiful girl in his life... is the father. This scene definitely touches me.
The beauty of this film is that it captured the rare moments of humanity where we love, appreciate and cherish that we hold dear to our souls...I am a grown man, I cry, I appreciate, and I cherish that I hold dear to my heart...
This very touching scene reaches out to the obvious - All the dads out there who cherish their daughters and are captivated in the wonderfully placed moments of time in their family lives. The scene moves this man to tears..
I never cried my eyes so much in a movie with this scene. He knew probably the last time he his daughter with a big smile. This movie just kills me. Too freaking sad
This film I've seen so many times bit always makes me cry. Such an underrated tale of living with cancer as a young person. Yes the film was different from the book but the actors were cast brilliantly
It just reading the book and it was so much different than the movie especially the Prom scene. I loved the movie, but I also loved the book. Both are good in their own ways.
For the preparation of the Hospital Prom: In the novel, Anna was cracking up jokes to the stylist in how to style Kate's head. She was looking at Anna puzzled by this. On the other hand, Kate was laughing at this. In the movie, Sara bought Kate a red wig and had it styled. At the prom: In the novel, Sara saw Taylor and Kate kiss. However, she didn't do anything to stop it because she wanted them to at least live a normal life. Whereas in the movie, Sara found out that Kate had sex with Taylor and was furious over it.
true but the part i am talking about his her father looking at her knowing he probably won't see her much longer. This movie kills me every time i watch it.
Marianita Bustos Nah, thats kinda what all moms do. My sister and I were never sick like Kate but our mom made us take a million pictures. It’s a mom thing!
That's a wig, actually, not her hair. In the movie, Kate had leukemia since she was 2 years old, so as a teenager, she was sadly not in the early stages of it at all. She had been battling it most of her life.

aerie5497 ikr
I have recently found in life it is far better to enjoy the moment that to let the camera get in the way
In the book kate lives, so he probably did
@@carolynbatgirl4877She went into remission for six years. SO he may not have seen her get married

"Do i look pretty daddy?" I swear that part makes me have water works and I don't cry.
Me too😭💔
That broke me and all the men in the theatre when it came out😢

Hadley Anderson ... L
I'm not a cryer, and I cry during this scene EVERY time! I'm a huge daddy's girl, and this scene just kills me.
The way her dad was looking at her... I'm crying too.
Lauryn Brianna same
Jason Patric just nails this scene without nary a word. Amazing actor.

A manly tear was shed for this scene
The fathers face at the beginning, ugh the grief because he knows it will be her only prom 😭
I never cried my eyes so much in a movie with this scene. He knew probably the last time he his daughter with a big smile. This movie just kills me. Too freaking sad
Sooo cute seeing the mum, aunty and sister taking photos. Just like every prom.
Do I look pretty daddy? Probably the most emotional scene 🥺 😭 being a daddy’s girl nobody’s opinion will matter except his ♥️ love and miss you dad 🕊🤍
As a daddys girl agreed
That dress is stunner...and she looks gorgeous in it.
When she asks “Do I look pretty daddy?” And he LITERALLY can’t even find the words to say!! I can’t evennnnnn 🥹🥹🥹🥹

@ 1:33 When the mom says, "I NEED TO DOCUMENT THIS MOMENT" is every parent ever 😂
They way he looks at her is so cute😍get you a guy like this💗
You can say there were a lot of things wrong with this movie but this.... this was one of the things done right. So much emotion with so little words.
I love u dad for everything..
It just reading the book and it was so much different than the movie especially the Prom scene. I loved the movie, but I also loved the book. Both are good in their own ways.
Can you please tell me the difference in the prom scene in the book? This is the most powerful movie ever.

One of my two favorite scenes of this movie... So Beautiful and sad..
this scene makes me cry just knowing how beautiful she must have felt
She looks like Molly Ringwald with red hair
paigestation she really does
The way he looks at her walking down the stairs 0:34
Jason Patric and Cameron Diaz play both parts brilliantly 👏👏 real men cry 😭
So touching😓
So many families go through this.. So sad wish they would cure cancer for all 🥺☹️
such a sad movie Tayor and Kate were adorable together such a beautiful couple
The father bore the greatest grief.
She Was So Pretty
beautiful
Awwh this scene is just so cute!
I am crying my eyes out here... God.. I pray no one ever face this fate...
A father would trade and lay down his own life for his daughter’s, no hesitation.
This made me cry
She truly looked beautiful
Gets me every time
It's very beautiful... They are so sweet Kate and Taylor 3 I miss my friend too and I will love him forever 3
I hate that Jesse and the father were completely ignored. Men need love too.
This movie made me cry .
This is so beautiful but sad 😥
Makes me cry
True beauty and love.
i was crying from the begining to the end
Kate was just like her dad, and the son was just like his mom lol
I'm sick, I cried in this scene!

Kate looks beautiful
Who's here after seeing Looking For Alaska?
omfg I seen this part I just never knew the name of the movie
)':u look beautiful in that dress and ur beautiful no matter what,Kate!kate and Tyler forever!!
Hannah Lee they are dead
I get that Sara wanted as many beautiful pictures as possible, but she kinda ruined this moment for Kate...
Marianita Bustos Nah, thats kinda what all moms do. My sister and I were never sick like Kate but our mom made us take a million pictures. It’s a mom thing!
I think deep down inside she know her daughter wouldn’t get this opportunity and wanted to memorize it cause that’s wat all parents do in events
@skhyprincessab its a wig..
She's in the early stage on leukemia. Later on, when it gets stronger, she loses her hair.
That's a wig, actually, not her hair. In the movie, Kate had leukemia since she was 2 years old, so as a teenager, she was sadly not in the early stages of it at all. She had been battling it most of her life.
I thought Taylor was played by Anthony Carrigan since he looks so much like him
why wouldent trhey :/
Touching scene? What like the entire movie??
And the daddy just silence
aww ive only read the book but never watched the movie but i have 2 now!!!!!! ITS SO CUTE!! Y Y DID IT END LIKE THAT THO?!?! STUPID DISEASE...
She looks like the girl from the notebook
It hurts because when I was getting ready for Prom my Mom just told me I looked ugly and tacky.
Rose Strife14 It was probably sarcasm of jealousy
I’m sure you looked beautiful and I’m sure you always do don’t listen to anyone
Poor thing having canser
Its a wig. Shes seen buying it in the previous scene.
Yep. In the book, Anna helps Kate feel better by making a couple of jokes to the hairdresser in how to style her sister's hair for the hospital prom.

Yes, but her hair grew back during remission. Kate lost it again when she relapsed and underwent chemotherapy.

Richy M Oh you are one of those jerks
I read the entire book last night! It was good... but "too much" for me. I enjoyed the movie a bit more.
