I was so naive when i watched this. I really thought Neil's dad would see him on stage and be proud of hi.😢

I think what helps me to prefer this film over the mass of inspired-by-the-unconventional teacher films is that the point wasn't for the students to convert wholesale to Keating's viewpoint. He didn't believe in being a savior or even a guide: he believed in providing the tools to allow his students to make informed choices. I like that not every kid in that classroom stood up in the end, as they're as much a reflection on his teaching as the ones who rebelled. RIP Robin.

    Awww. Y'all wasn't ready.
    This is full cinema realness.
It's is a poetry of it's own, and very much ALIVE.

In 1989 when this movie came out everyone who graduated had Carpe Diem lettered on their caps. The message of "contributing your own verse" and "making your lives extraordinary" is one every generation of kids should hear. I disagree it's cliche. I think it would go a long way in this age of internet obsession. Ethan Hawke said he could see some of Robin's mental struggles while making the movie. Robin said himself that it was one of his favorites. It's one of mine too. RIP Captain.

Chet saw Knox kissing his girl. I don't think he was defending her honor but rather fighting for his possession.

In the original scrips, Cameron was supposed to stand on his desk, but Dylan Kussman, the actor who played Cameron, told director Peter Weir he thought that was against Cameron's nature, and Weir agreed.
After filming Neil's death scene, director Peter Weir took Robert Sean Leonard off the set and would not let him have any contact with the other actors, in order to give them a real sense of loss.
Robin Williams got frustrated during filming because he couldn't make Ethan Hawke (Todd Anderson) laugh like he could everybody else. That was because Hawke decided to stay in character at all times even when they weren't filming. Williams kept picking on Hawke and Hawke thought Williams didn't like him, but after filming finished, Hawke got a call from Williams' first agent who told Hawke that Williams recommended him and said he believed he was going to go far in the business. That agent has been Hawke's agent ever since.

Two more great films, starring Robin Williams, and other great actors, with lots of laughs and tugs at your heartstrings: The Birdcage (1996) and The Fisher King (1991.)

Chet was the “bad guy” in 1989s (or thereabouts) movie Weird Science. It’s about two nerdy blokes that are so hard up for a date they create one…….with weird science!

Elements of this film are based on the school I was educated at. In 1994 our school performed this film on the stage.
