This video needs to play in all Dr waiting rooms on a loop and the series in schools helping kids pick what they want to do with their lives... Incredible work!
I am still just a first-year med student, but I am still incredibly impressed by how well and accurately you were able to summarize the field, good job :)
I'm super grateful for the maps that Dr. Dominic makes/made in this channel. I'm 17 and super invested in science, so it helps me figure out what I want to do and don't like. I'll never forget this channel for the rest of my life. It really has made my occupation options easier and way more fun ❤
Hi, doctor here working in and teaching Pathology. Fantastic, fantastic map! A few suggestions: - for diagnostic methods, we also have electrophysiological testing, e.g., ECG (you mentioned this) and EEG - histopathological assessments not only diagnose abnormal cells/cancer from biopsies, we also look at specimens taken out from a full surgery to help stage the cancer - epidemiology is usually considered the basic science of public health (although your way of presenting it is completely reasonable) Overall, this was really fun to watch!
How's it like working in the field of Pathology? I am very intrigued by it and maybe want to be a Forensic Pathologist. What would u say are some pros and cons of pathology?
Hi @@cherrycat5599 , it's an amazing, amazing field that is constantly expanding and evolving. Loads of reading and applying what you've learnt to the cases you see every day. Forensic pathology is a fascinating field - there's a lot of clinicopathological correlation in the context of suspicious cases (at least in UK and Ireland, uncomplicated/unsuspicious deaths are dealt with by non-forensic pathologists, and FPs deal with suspicious deaths). Pros: 1. All the interesting cases in the hospital you work in will arrive in your department (benign boring cases, apart from screening specimens, would not usually need invasive investigations/treatments). 2. You stand at the interface between patients and science and get to explain what your findings mean to the patients in your meeting with clinicians. 3. You are constantly learning new things no matter how good you are (from Consultants, trainees and scientists, alike; but the patients will always, always be a doctor's best teachers!) Cons: 1. Exams are extremely challenging and there is a lot of studying needed (I was in clinical medicine before transitioning to Histo - the amount and level of studying I do every day now is way more overwhelming). 2. Sometimes I miss talking to and examining patients (I try to compensate for this by doing very thorough and in-depth clinicopathological correlation when discussing cases with my students so that I get to keep my clinical knowledge (if not skills). 3. People also misunderstand what I do all the time because they have no exposure to Histo and assume we just sit behind a desk not doing anything :(
I love that paramedics were mentioned early on 🥰 a lot of people see them as just "ambulance drivers" but a lot of them (like ones here in Australia) go through a lot of training and really are experts in the treatment of acute prehospital injuries or illnesses
I wish everyone who is currently studying good luck! You are all great people and we are very thankful for every Doctor out there who helps and saves people!
Hi, love DOS. Minor correction: on "biostatistics" it seems you switched the mean and median. For me it makes more sense to first explain the basic facts of human physiology and disease on one map before talking about the ethics of medicine such as what doctors should and should not do or the various healthcare jobs. Medicine doesn't neatly fit into a map of knowledge like in previous videos because its not an academic subject (that's physiology or pathology) its a job that includes "ought" statements as well as "is" statements and its important to distinguish between the two.

Psychiatry: if you're interested in how the mind works and how to treat the abnormalities B. Anaesthesiology : every single surgery needs anaesthesia... C. Opthalmology : if you can't compete with surgeons and just want to deal with eyes D. ENT : If you can't compete with surgeons, and have good hand eye coordination, and prefer using slightly smaller instruments than surgeons... 6. Great content. You said something like, "Go seek medical care if you have an actual medical issue." I say, "Too late doc, shut-up and take my money! Now, give me my bottle placebo pills." *Immediately downs 12 bottles and goes into a diabetic coma.* As a med-tech (laboratory medicine) a lot of people think it's the physician performing the blood (or body fluid) tests and organism identification, nope it's us. I tell people think of med-techs like nurses for pathologist, infectious disease physicians and toxicologist; anything we can't perform they do. And they oversee our work.
Too good ...im always grateful to you ...Also WouLd you plz make map of all the world money and banking systems like all the financial things like you Doo?
You’ll notice there is no branch of medicine dedicated to lactation. There is a whole organ that is completely ignored by medicine unless it becomes cancerous. (And no, it’s not obstetrics or pediatrics-the training they get in this topic is grossly inadequate.)
I was at his Howthelightgetsin talk. It was really interesting!! I'm going to be binging all of his videos now. I found his opinions on artificial intelligence extremely interesting!
When an AGI can actually 'understand' this relational map, as opposed to just reporting a great sett of words it has mined to predict what we 'want to hear' about this map, I think that will be the revolution in diagnostic medicine.

honestly bc insurances and their policies are so convoluted we could all use a map of insurances lol
@@kittycat10072한 사람이 모든학문을 전부 전문가 수준으로 이해하고 섭렵할수 있을까요?
Great content. You said something like, "Go seek medical care if you have an actual medical issue." I say, "Too late doc, shut-up and take my money! Now, give me my bottle placebo pills." *Immediately downs 12 bottles and goes into a diabetic coma.*
As a med-tech (laboratory medicine) a lot of people think it's the physician performing the blood (or body fluid) tests and organism identification, nope it's us. I tell people think of med-techs like nurses for pathologist, infectious disease physicians and toxicologist; anything we can't perform they do. And they oversee our work.
Excellent as always! It makes me proud to be a patron via Patreon.

You’ll notice there is no branch of medicine dedicated to lactation. There is a whole organ that is completely ignored by medicine unless it becomes cancerous. (And no, it’s not obstetrics or pediatrics-the training they get in this topic is grossly inadequate.)
There are lactation consultants/counselors
So exited for this one
I was at his Howthelightgetsin talk. It was really interesting!! I'm going to be binging all of his videos now. I found his opinions on artificial intelligence extremely interesting!
Waiting like crazy for this one thank you 🙏 sir
Babe, wake up! New DOS Map just dropped.
a timeline series would be nice i think like the timeline of medicine or the timeline of engineering
It would be really cool to see something like this for the dental field!
Moving in to my new place soon and will be buying all the posters. Can't wait!
This is great, now we need healthcare.
I was thinking that it would be good if we could have a map of medicine and you guys magically appeared....isnt that great😊...
My favourite topic😊
Thanks for making this video 👍
This was excellent. One of the most informative videos I have ever watched.
Left us lowly folks out. Medical support staff. Medical billing, I.T. , HR, transportation, etc.
You ask them for medicine and they give you a map. Mazel tov! 😊
You are doing wonderful job, love from India, anticipating more and more such diverse content❤
I will come back and watch this video again after 7 years later when I finish studying medicine and see how it looks different from this time
When an AGI can actually 'understand' this relational map, as opposed to just reporting a great sett of words it has mined to predict what we 'want to hear' about this map, I think that will be the revolution in diagnostic medicine.
Please make the Map of Data Science. Thank you
Can you make a map that connects the SCIENCES with the MATHEMATICS? There are obvious interlinked connections that I would like to see expressed on a map. Please and thanks.
8:00 y'kno what amuses me about the "divide" between toxicology & pharmac. ?
there are valid reasons that some of the most lethal toxins should be given to certain patients /that will heal them/ more then they will be damaged!
Why was no "work medicine" as an individual field? Also, nothing about autopsys?
Yeah, no forensic medicine either. Dealing with legal issue in medical settings.
