I happened to get the change to help on a small farm. I got to clean up horse. He was 27yrs old retired. But he was so happy to be in Hawaii. Only problem was wet most of the time. He got a infection in rear foot. I learned to clean it trim and dress it. First time by myself it was both very rewarding and very cool. Love you 4 legged friends. God Bless you All 😊.
Would a hospital plate be an option for her? Absolutely fascinating. As a farrier myself who has a soft spot for horses in need you guys did her such a good deed. ❤️
If people comment why don’t they listen to the video? The horse is a rescue that had a larvae infestation in a hoof wound, it must be very difficult in humid conditions to keep those kinds of issues at bay.
@@BeerBellyBerserker i would love to hear you speaking Portuguese .. Are they in Brazil aren’t they ? Anyway, the guy is trying so hard. As a French as a foreign language professor, I admire him !😊
She is a very well behaved horse. It’s like she knows that her owner is trying to help her. Great video. Watching from Yellowknife Northwest Territories Canada.
Glad she has you! My sister has a diabetic horse so he needs specific foot care-it was neat to see the ferrier specifically shape his hoofs to manage it.
When you say "larvae" do you mean "bacteria"? Goodness, I hope so. Larvae is also called a maggot if it is from flies, yuck. I think you mean bacteria, microscopic germs, maybe.
@@goldenyearsacres9163 I could see maggots getting into it, actually. They eat only dead tissue, and are used in modern wound care. VERY gross though, so I agree with goodness I hope not!
I am delighted that Renato has been able to help her so much over the last eight months. I hope in the next 3-6 months she will be totally healed and healthy. Then maybe you can check on her again once or twice to make sure she is still okay and surviving well. Thank you!! ❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve been watching y’all forever but only speak English so I was missing out on so much. You guys are amazing. Thank you for helping people like me to understand your work.
All I can say is thank you for helping this mare. Judging by the look of her leg, I’d hazard a guess that there was some kind of awful accident at some point in her past. You guys are angels for her.
You can see the formation of the frog showing in the hoof now. The large deformation in the outer hoof wall will need 9 to 12 mo to see how it grows out. I expect it will be significantly improved, but the question will be if the coronet band that sort of produces the hoof wall was damaged and if there will always will some kind of deformation in the outer hoof wall. No matter what this will be time and many trims to bring the hoof back to the proper shape and angle as it grows out. IF the horse was under my care the farrier would be out every 4 to 6 weeks to trim or balance and check the hoof for the next 12 months and it would be a lot of work to make sure the hoof did not get filled with manure, mud, etc. as it has that crevice.
That frog doesn't look too bad at all compared to the rest of the hoof. Makes me a little more optimistic for this poor mare's outlook. I'd be curious to see imaging of this hoof, I wonder what's going on inside.
Mine, although healthy sees farrier every month. I want it to stay healthy with perfect hooves. Shes 2200lbs and if I was that heavy im be thankful for nice shoes
You guys are angels from above because the care of these horses that you give to bring them back to health and give them the love they need is just amazing.. thank you and especially thank the Lord above. 🐎🧲🐴🧲🐎🧲🐴
Thank you for telling viewers that despite how hard owners may look in the pastures for harmful objects, the horses( other animals, too) will find them.
No lie there! They can have a 10 acre pasture thats perfect and pristine, except for 1 nail in a tree...and trust me, those horses WILL find that nail and hurt themselves on it, lol..
My buddy's horse that I used to care for escaped her fence and found the ONE PIECE OF TIN IN THE ENTIRE YARD (we had it nailed down originally, but the hurricane had removed it and we hadn't gotten to that part of repairs yet) and sliced her leg open and the start of the hoof from one side to the other (we were so grateful she didnt cut tendon and stuff). My buddy called me in a panic at like 2AM when she was checking on the horses and I rushed over. Many vet visits later, we were still not impressed with that escape artist. She recovered fine, though!
How much pain and non comfort for the animals ??? When i see this i feel it in my body !!! Then i want to see how they make it better, thank you for that !!! L.M.
Poor sweetheart .. took alot of neglect to get that bad .. I'm surprised she's not as lame as I would of thought ,! thoughts and prayers for her in her rescue home ❤ she's looking alot better
We have had horses for over 39’uears. They all are well taken. Are of and with that they can get hurt . We have a great Ferrier who helped us with a rescue Friesian standard bred whose hooves were bad. & club front hoof. Appreciate all your time n knowledge ! Kind of like my paramedic & fire work. Good job and what a sweet girl she is! That rasp sounds rough tho.. 😂 Amazed how clean the legs are despite that massive deformation. I’d love to see a radiograph before/after Greetings from a Swedish colleague!
The hair loss is from rain scald, also called rain rot. He mentioned they've been having a lot of rain, so that can cause a fungus to grow on the skin that causes the hair loss. He also mentioned that it it improving. It's totally curable with proper treatment.
It is absolutely wonderful that you guys take on the care of these animals. I seriously hope that the monetary gain you get from this channel helds cover the cost@

@Lisa Van Dyke My great grandparents were in the Okanagan Valley. And we lived on the Haida Guai'i Islands for 2 years when my father was in the military. Loved living in BC!! Beautiful out there!!
I totally agree. Being a farrier is hard work. I had to take a farrier class in college. We had to take frozen horse legs and trim the hoof then make a horse shoe from a straight bar. We had forges and heated it up. I found a hoof that didn't need trimming and I selected that one. Making the shoe to fit then we nailed it on. It wasn't easy. I appreciated the farrier after this class.
Poor girl! Thank you so much for helping her. She seems very relaxed especially since she's a rescue. You must really have a gift from God with animals. ❤❤❤ Muito muito obrigado!
This horse isn't too far gone. It can be saved. The question is the cost. The people helping cannot work for free. Neither is the meds and time to administer the treatment. However the horse is worth saving. I love horses and dogs. I've found them to be highly intelligent and very loving when given the right treatment. I hope this horse is treated until healed then be cared for by the right person.
A nail did not cause all of this deformation this poor horse has had great trauma in this leg and hoof. I am sure the nail was bad but not the only bad thing for this horse. Great job taking this on and helping her/him be sound and feel better. Thank you.
Why is the the man explaining everything, pointing and touching the infected hoof. These animals steps on all kinds of bacteria and bad stuff on the ground. Put on some gloves to protect your hands. Be safe.
