    Once I almost bought a bike without title that seemed to be a great deal and the guy suggested I use a “private title company” that specializes in helping get a clean title for about $200 but then I called my local DMV office and the lady recommended not to go through with the purchase because it can turn into a real nightmare and more than likely I would never be able to get a clear title as she has seen this happened many times before. Moral of the story...no title, no money. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    This was 3 years ago but I've just watched the series now. Shame. You can get another bike but you can never regain a lost reputation. Here in Europe things are different. I'm a Brit ex-pat living in Germany and most European countries have centralised vehicle registration agencies which are also linked to Interpol. Of course bikes still get stolen but they end up being either taken to other Eastern European countries like Russia or they get stripped for parts and the frame with the VIN gets scrapped. I know the US is really big but with modern computer technology it wouldn't be impossible to centralise vehicle registration. This of course would mean that every state would have to give up it's autonomy on this issue but it would be much easier and cheaper for vehicle buyers and sellers to change and check vehicles. It would also standardise paperwork and vehicle inspection practices throughout the US.

    Man, the whole ownership process in the US is just confusing and complicated! I'm in NZ and we pay $9.20 and the buyer fills out a form, shows their licence and puts the vehicle in their name with our national governing body. End of. I also have an identical bike to this and absolutely love it as a road machine! 👌🤙

      Here in The Netherlands , i take the card with the bike/car title/info to the post office , they digitally make me the owner, i get a slip which proves it ws transferred to me to give the previous owner and i get a new card in the mail (last one i bought took only 1 day) usually takes 10 minutes.

      Fellow Kiwi here, yeah the U.S way does seem weird to me too. Ive got an 86 GSX-R1100 which the bandit motor is based on, And a 2002 GS1200SS these motors are pretty much bullet proof, owner neglect/running them out of oil is pretty much the only way to kill them. Super easy to service with screw and locknut tappets. Great engines.

    • @davefloyd9443
      @davefloyd9443 2 года назад

      Crazy. UK issue a registration document to each new vehicle at first registration and it's the 'keeper'/person named on the document who is legally responsible for filling in the new owners details and sending that part of the document in to the authorities. New doc issued to new keeper within few weeks, for free.

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 2 года назад

      @@davefloyd9443 That sounds like the way we used to do it in NZ, but some govt busy body with too much time on their hands decided that having a list of previous owners names and addresses on the ownership papers was an "invasion of privacy" so now its changed to how the OP described.

    Man, That Sucks! In Business/Contract Law class they told us that after an item has sold at least twice to "bona fide" purchasers that the original owner, even if stolen etc., no longer has a legal claim to the item. They would have to go to the party who stole it or sold it and try and get restitution from them. Problem here being that neither of the 2 previous "owners" ever had a legal title to it.Technically I would say that you might also have a legal lien/claim of some sort since you have now spent money and got it running. You definitely have no obligation to turn it over in any better shape than how you originally received it. In the end it is up to you. Good luck and you should be able to find another Bandit for a reasonable price. Take care.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  4 года назад +1

      Well im in contact with the actual title holder who plans to buy it back. It went into repossession as he wasn't paying on the lein Id guess because he had no clue where the bike was. He worked with me with titlemax but even to settle they want a stupid amount of money.
      I did look into mechanics leins but its so convoluted with who actually has the legal power over the bike in who knows what state that all parties ive contacted think it wouldn't help.

    I had a similar one with a 1983 Suzuki GS1100E, sold three times before me, without registering the bike. The mistake was having my friend take delivery, I should have had my friend take a photo of the title BEFORE handing over the cash. If I saw the title, I would have told the seller to leave the bike on the truck, my fault. The seller lied to me about the condition and title of the bike. It took me a year to clear the title, and I finally had to go back to the original owner and transfer the title from the seller to me. In the end, lost a ton of time and money, and got rid of that GS1100E. But the person who bought my bike got clear title.

    That's a bummer dude we have a different system in Scotland/UK . I wouldn't buy a bike without all it's MOT certificates because they tell you millage every year on the bike . I'm not sure what the US version is but it's a health check your bikes fit for the road and has to be done every year it's £40 to get done but it's illegal to ride without one the first two years it doesn't need one but the millage is in its service book for the first 2 years if you don't get it serviced for the first 2 years it invalidates yours 2 year warranty, it's handy if your npbike has a full service history to and stamped by a dealer in the service book , but some people like to service their own bikes like me but keep the receipts on what you have bought . The fewer the owners the better that shows up on your vehicle registration document and how many owners your bikes had . So that document and MOT certificates are compulsory, services in the manual are not , but with MOT certificates you know the bike has never had it's millage messed around with as only a MOT center can check your bike idps fit for the road,if it fails it's MOT the problem must be fixed like chain and sprockets,tyres ,breaks ,leaking forks , anything which makes the bike unfit for the road you have 48 hrs for them to fix it or another garage or themselves but it must pass on the things it failed after fixing . A bike with not MOTs or some people walk away it's risky because it could have had it's millage tampered with .

      🇬🇧.
      You seem to have bought into a bit of a bureaucratic nightmare, complicated by different states' licencing laws. Here in UK, we have "log book" (actually it's more of a 2-page form) for each vehicle. At the time of sale, vendor & purchaser fill in parts of it & the new owner sends the form off to the Government agency which deals with such matters (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency). It goes without saying that it's up to the purchaser to do the research regarding the vehicle's legal status.
      I still have my 1997 600 Bandit, bought new. I'll have to get it back on the road. Just needs some "fettling". Great bikes! Good luck sorting out the legals on this bike.

    The moral of the story is to never buy a bike with no title. Unless it's to be used for parts. And they are for sale like that in big numbers, "barn find" or it will say "barn find, and as usual no title", or it will say "lost title". That's a lie, if a title is lost a replacement copy can be obtained from the state. There's nothing usual about it, they all have a paper trail, and you can never be the legitimate owner of them. This guy would have been better off to just ride it using his bill of sale to get registration and never take it beyond that. Once you start poking around in it's paper trail, it ends up in a quagmire of legalese with no good outcome. About the only thing he could do is take it to the company with the lien on it, offering it for repossession, and then try to buy it from them. But they'd no doubt put it up for sale and others might bid on it. But with 70K miles it wouldn't get top dollar.

    • @BrickHouseBuilds
      @BrickHouseBuilds  3 года назад

      I've bought a few with no title and this is the first to bite me. The Illinois dmv gave me incorrect information causing all of this. Proving its not stolen and with no lein and providing proof of purchase can enable you to go for a bonded title, declatory ownership, abandoned, or even out of state registrations that can then be transfered back into your name in your state. Its up to the buyer to do the homework and determine it the project is worth the time and money. I bought this for $300 and had it running for minimal cash. It didn't work out how I wanted but it could have been much worse. I could have owned this bike but I wasn't willing to spend what was required. People (too many) actually lose titles and only they can apply for a replacement. If that person is dead or unwilling to spend the time to do it than you can't go that route. In my state you can't register without a title so all the riding I was doing was technically illegal but I wasn't going to let this sit.

    • @tedstriker754
      @tedstriker754 3 года назад

      @@BrickHouseBuilds I've read that if you have a bill of sale you can get a registration. Maybe that's true in some states, but every time I've registered a vehicle they wanted to see the title, and issued a new title in my name. I've never tried to register one without a title, but It must be possible. If you can do that I'd never take it beyond that point for a no-title vehicle. It could end up in the dead end trap like you got caught in. I'm actively looking for a bike now, and I see quite a lot of them listed with lost titles, or it just says no title. I'm passing all of them by. Even though some are really cheap.
