Thanks for the videos, I keep watching to learn all of your tricks in GnG. One major thing I've noticed is you really have to keep moving and try not to stop. Have you played Rastan and Rygar? Both games are similar and you'd probably enjoy them.
This is very impressive, but the hardware you're running it on is really helping you out. I don't know if you're ever played GnG on one of the original arcade machines, but it is not this smooth. You are very, very skilled. Don't think I was taking anything away from you :)
There's one Satan at the end of Level 5 and two Satans at the end of Level 6. The tiny bluish enemies you see at the beginning of level 2, on the bridge on level 4, etc., are imps. The Red Arremers are the little red creatures you see in the second part of Level 3, the second part of Level 4, when you go up the stairs on Level 5, etc..
Everyone stop saying this is not the original version. This is the World version. I'm aware the US version is harder. If you want to no miss that version go ahead and post it instead of whining about mine.
funny story. Once my cousin played the NES version, and since your turn doesn't end until the bones hit the ground, they kept hitting the platforms until he finally just shut it off

The main differences are the following... 1) The Red Arremers are much slower than in Set 1. 2) The Red Arremers take only 6 hits to die, while the ones in Set 1 take 12. 3) You can't make the dragon from Level 4 disappear, like you do in Set 1. In any case, you have good skills. Congratulations.

Real difference of Set 1 VS set 2 1) In the begining of stage, Arthur cannot go extreme left in Set 2. 2) In level 3, location of second armor and King arthur doll is reversed in Set 2. 3) Level 5, 6 is 3:40 time limit in Set 2.(as Japanese version) 4) Level 5, 6 boss HP and speed reduced in Set 2. 5) Shield has more shot distance in Set 2. It looks capcom used Set 2 for this game, but they correct "2)" as original.
This reminds me of a game I played way back when in the 90's. I think it was nintendo? Hell I'm not sure. It might have been castlevania I don't recall. But damn it was fun. I later learned that I like RPGs, but the roots of my love were in that game. I remember collecting gold and potions and things. It was fun learning about the levels and how to beat them more effective. Anyway I"m a believer that good games don't need realistic graphics anymore than they need realistic gameplay.
The hardest game I ever played... I can't even begin to remember how many quarters I spent, and I never did see the end. I had seen one guy get near the end... but he like so many other brave knights, perished with those damn furry devils... I wish they still made games like this :)

No, I don't know what set I was playing on when I played it on MAME, I just simply started the game, and I got to the last level before the boss, I couldn't do that on the NES version

Damn you're beyond good, or you designed the game. I know I was so pissed at this game back then, I wouldn't walk up to it with less than $5 worth of quarters. I could get to the building with the trolls pretty much every game. The green cave just killed me.(and my arms). I own the damn arcade machine now, and haven't gotten past the bridge once in 8 years. I guess if I mastered it, it wouldn't be Ghosts n Goblins. The only other game that owned me so bad, was Capcoms Gunsmoke. EVIL!
Damn, any pointers on the first Arremer on Stage 3? It's the only one in the game that continues to give me problems! It's not _that_ bad because there's an armor shortly after, but it still causes me to fail more than it should this early in the game. I have no idea how you manage to shoot it right as it lands behind you, if I try that, it dodges like every other Arremer in the game, and if I let it charge me, it always fires a bullet at me. And if I let him live longer than that, I'm f**ked..
Yes, I finally figured out how to do it without using the FE code, you have to get lucky and a get a few good items first, and as you said know where to find them.
I had something called the official nintendo players guide that said Satan is the one who captures the princess in beginning, and yes, you fight two of them before you fight the end boss who's name is Lucifer (which just another name for Satan) but when you first fight Lucifer, and beat him it says "It was a trick by Satan" and you have to start over, so which is which?

So, you're saying this is actual code from the arcade game, but not the actual arcade game? Yes, the NES version is a lot harder, those red devils at the end of the graveyard (there are more in level 3) don't just sit there and let you throw your weapon at them.

The arcade version of this game is so much easier than the NES version... mainly due to the NES version having clunkier controls and glitches galore. I can beat it, but in my opinion, a root canal is a more pleasant experience.

Fantastic run of this beast of a game...I seriously think this first installment in the series was RIGGED. But then again...the whole point of coin operated machines was to steal your money, correct? This game had only six levels (looped twice, so technically 12), as opposed to 255 in most games of that time period (Dig Dug, Pacman, Galaga, Galaxian)....so they had to be quite difficult in order for Capcom to make a profit. Either way, I love it...but in all honestly I prefer the Gargoyles game.

I beat if...finally...after 3 days of 5 hour or so sessions. It's a shame most people my age will never even hear of this game, let alone play or finish it. While they're busying meddling with Black Ops, I will be playing the games that segregate the men from the boys so to speak. :)

Ghouls n Ghosts is easier IMO....and unless you're a sadist you are better off playing that version. Or its spinoff, the Gargoyle's Quest games. I cleared those when I was about 9 or 10 years old...
Couldn't disagree more, and I've completed both versions of the game. The glitches in the NES version where enemies fly off screen then come back are maddening. Enemies like the red arremer fly off screen then come back later to bite you in the ass... Controls are far clunkier as well.
The glitches actually make the NES version easier. Now Deadly Towers, that's an unpleasant game. I know how to beat it but you have to know exactly where to go. You spend so much time just trying to get money . . it's just not worth it. At least in GnG you get to keep going to the right.
Yeah, and if you REALLY want hard.. play this on the NES. Still frustrates the crap outta me. The Gameboy Color version is as easy as the arcade in comparison.

the japanese version of that game has a holy cross but the american version had a magic shield ( or i shall called, "Holy Shield").

So, there's Ghouls n Ghosts, Super Ghouls n Ghosts, Ghosts n Goblins, and Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins. Explains a bit. Fun!

i've resisted the temptation to look too far ahead. but ye you make it look easy. not an easy game. iv'e got as far as the two bosses so far.
Is it just me, or does this seem slightly less difficult than the NES game? Since when does a Red Devil just take direct hits like that?

i defeated the second boss by running back to the things at 3:38 and having them fall into the water. it was probably a fluke though...
i got past lvl 2 once. the dragon thing is just a little too epic for me.

Contra NES is harder because it is longer. Both of those games are pretty easy compared to any version of GnG. IDK why ppl think Contra is so hard.
