“The Son of a Gun” was written by Collie and Hollywood writer, director and filmmaker Jonathan Hensleigh (Die Hard with a Vengeance, Jumanji, Armageddon, The Punisher).
“This was my first songwriting collaboration with Jonathan,” explains Collie. “He came up with the idea and it really fit the album and gave us an opportunity to recognize and honor those who keep us safe and free.”
“It started with a conversation about our World War II survivor fathers,” adds Hensleigh. “Men who had to carry a firearm in the line of duty and what effect that has on a person when they return from combat.”
The new single will be included on Collie’s forthcoming album, Book of My Blues, set to release later this year. Additional information on the new album will be announced in the coming weeks. Fans can pre-order “The Son of a Gun” here.

Thank you, Mark for this wonderful video. My brother just retired from the US Army, another one getting ready to retire from the US Navy, my husband a Vietnam Navy Vet and our daughter who served in the US Marines and did three tours overseas in Afghanistan/Iraq/Fallujah.

Being raised a couple miles off of Highway 64, and only about twenty minutes from that "Hardin County Line", I've always loved the music Mark, and also Daryl Worley makes. Glad to see Mark is still making good music. Good luck in everything Mark!

Playing this song on our public radio in Washington now. Good to have Mark back with his signature tunes. Every man on my side of our family did at least 5 years active duty Navy, with me retired at 20. This song fires me up.
Dad lost his only two brothers in WWII, 3 months apart, the youngest in Italy and oldest brother in Germany. Thank you Mark, great album , great songs!

God he has aged a little. My favorite song he sings is( Let Her Go) I was 16 in 1990 when that hit the radio stations loving that country video of that song made. He also is a good actor. Love his work in The movie the Punisher. He had a awesome scene in the restaurant and on the highway. I like when he sings Slow country music. With a little steel and fiddle. Never retire from country music. Keep making country albums and keep singing until the day you die. Just like George Jones did and Don Williams. Keep teaching the young kids what true country music is and show them. Even if it doesn't sell like it used too.
