Thanks so much for this great video! 2 questions (hoping you see this before I have to finish/send a PDF in the morning) -- Can the name of the bookmark be edited? And, what happens if you move the sections around in the document or delete a section?
Hi - Hoping to catch you before you save. Looks like you cannot edit the bookmark name, you can edit where it goes or the text selected to go to the bookmark. The best you can do is go to the bookmark, update the name and then add it and relink. As far as deleting sections, the links will likely break. As far as moving sections, if you grab some of the text where you want the bookmark to be, the bookmark should go with it and the link should continue to go to the correct location. If you just click next to the text like I have in the video, it will only go to where the section was originally located. I hope that is helpful!
Did the links still exist? I just ran through this and saving as a pdf did maintain my links. However, you can select the data again and edit a link if it exists and is just not going where you want. If they are gone completely, I would try saving as a pdf again. I hope this helps!

Ok HELP - I'm coming up empty on the internet and I hope you're still checking these comments. My headings are NOT automatically being marked as destinations like you show here. Is there some obscure checkbox in the styles building window that got unchecked somehow? My document is hundreds of pages long and I don't want to manually create these bookmarks! Thank you!
I should add that I customized these headers based on Header 1, and they're linked to a multi-level list style. They work as they should, and all headings appear in the Nav pane and the TOC... I just cant figure out why they wont show up under the "headings" section of the bookmark pane.
I can't find a place where this would be turned off. If I am following correctly, you are unable to see the headings listed when you right-click on a place in the document, select Link, and are in the Insert Hyperlink box. If you click on Place in this document under the Link to: section, all of the headings should be listed there under Headings. I am sure you have already done this, but you can verify Headings is expanded to see the list. I cannot think of any way you could have disabled the linking ability. Does that help at all?
@@EyonicSystems You're correct, I think it's something about the way my headings are set up - because if I convert the headings all to "heading 1" the headings appear in the bookmarks pane right where they ought to. But if I use the headings I modified to fit our templates they don't. Hmm. I'll try rebuilding the styles by modifying "Heading 1" and see if that helps. Thanks!

Thanks for making this video! Had a group project recently with around 150 pages, and I didn't know about bookmark function of word, which would have helped immensely with navigating for the readers. So again, thank you for sharing your wisdom :)
totally saved me with video, thsi saved me so much time and i was pulling my hair as i could not see the pages i wanted to link to because they were not headings , you video was spot on

I saved as a PDF but when I attached the PDF in an email. Once I opened it up, the links did not work. I don't know what I did wrong.
