A great song for Polling Day!
This song was so ahead of its time
+shreddedreams No, it's a genius track that's always of it's time.
Politics have been crooked since they exist. It's the entire point, lol.
Thanks Kubo.
I have been privileged to see the original line-up as the Dada Band at college in 1962, Doo Dah Band's regular weekly gigs at the Tiger's Head, Catford in mid 60's, worked at the studio where Viv Stanshall recorded in 1974 then in recent years attended a Rutles concert at the QE Hall.
This recording is a fitting tribute to a great band and today's political situation.
As you said - very apt.
10 years ago and you I'm now the second like. Wow talk about no respect. All I have say is
YOU LUCKYFUCKING BLEEDING BASTARD!!!
So correct at the present time in December 2021
"Don't vote, it only encourages them."
Vote Anarchy! :D
Rings depressingly true...
not heard this version before.
Is that Roger or Rodney blowing the sax solo at the end?
My political mantra! Thank you Neil Innes for putting it in a single sentence.
Where did thus come from? I thought I'd collected all of their albums and tracks decades ago but this was new to me. Cool.
Me too! And the funny thing is that i've been quoting the title for years, never knowing it was a Bonzos song...
Hey, Bazbee, thanks for the response. I envy your history of seeing the boys live. I became a fan in the early 70s here in the USA and collected all the albums...later the CDs and the DVD of the anniversary show, plus the "Do Not Adjust Your Set" videos. Also have Viv's biography and a couple of his albums. Great stuff!
The eternal, cyclical evil of POLITICS.
I remember hearing this in 1992 when Neil Innes was on "Into the Night" with Nicky Campbell on Radio 1. Still soooooooo relevant. Thanks for putting it out there.
@utz14
Thanks Utz
Barrybee
I like it. Thanks for sharing. Will have to remember this group.
never heard the whole song, good stuff!
Back in 1988 (time of recording) it was their second comeback, so I guess it could be either or dare-I-say-it a session player overdub.
There were over 30 musos involved up to their 40th anniversary.
I have no sleeve notes to confirm.
Having said all that it sounds like when Bob Kerr used to play with them..
It was a reunion single recorded for the 1987 general election but released for the 1992 one instead.
