    So we have another installment to the Brutally Honest Reviews.. and ive been so intrigued to see what these cars are like! But the 'specs' and the 'numbers' put me off driving one because i thought they would be underwhelming and boring..
    god was i wrong.

      Kevin Cousins yeah lol small cars with say 900kg weight will fly with say 100bhp but a car as heavy as 2000 kg and 100 bhp will feel heavy and sluggish. Its just like having a underpowered engine lol

    The reason why most small cars since the Clio 172 sit high is for safety. Side impacts, the manufacturers know we all want a low seating position.

    I heard it all..."so it's fiat 500?" "why you drive girlie car?" "why didn't you get fiesta ST at least?"... You know what? Abarth 595 (the cheapest one, only 145 bhp), 1 test drive and I was gone. Felt in love. And the top of the things is this is the most social car ever. Abarth owners wave to each other, so easy going people. I don't like driving super fast but I like to have a bit of horses when I need them, good sounding funny car.

      You get different spec’s of the fiat/ abarth so you get 1.4 t-jet which is 135bhp, t-jet 140bhp, t-jet 160bhp and the competizion 160bhp, 595 tributo Ferrari 180bhp, 595 assetto corse 190bhp, biposto t-jet 190bhp all them are 2007-2015! 2015 onwards range between 135bhp-190bhp depending on the spec for the fiat/ abarth 500/595/695

    The lever is hidden you have to push it and it pops out. To raise the driver's seat height or pump the lever downward to lower the seat height. There is also a little lever that is in the boot next to the spare wheel that you connect in and wine it down like a little bit like a jack

  • @ARIPerformance
    @ARIPerformance 6 лет назад

    Good honest review mate, some of the things such as seat height depend on the individual such as myself, im only 5ft 9" and the seat height is perfect. But it comes down to the way the cars engineered to make you feel like you're in a nimble go kart when your foot is planted or in a passive hatch when heading to the local shops off sport mode. The track Abarth i have is pushing just past 300bhp, the 1.4 TJet motors can produce up to 260bhp reliably with a upgraded turbo and other necessary modifications (stock block still). When you're up past the 250bhp mark... they actually become a very quick car, 300+ is a whole other level!

    Couldn’t agree more about the HP thing you said, more power doesn’t always mean better, if you can get a good chassis and a nice tight body, 100 BHP would do round some bendy roads if it handles well

  • @Roginator007

    It is Torque that gives people the "feel" of speed but it's not usually the be all and end all of performance. I have had 3 well tuned NA cars and tbh I have found them more fun than some of the turbo cars which had way more torque. I have found the biggest factor is the power to weight. Hence why bikes are so much fun.

    Great video Lee I really like these sort of reviews spot on. My wife has a fiat 500 had it 5 years now and it's been perfect only needed tyres and brakes. I tried to get her in the earth but she didn't like the abarth badges of all things and thinks it is to fast for her. I think they are one info the best sounding hot hatches to. Well pointed out about people buying cars to please other people to. There's to many young lads going out and getting expensive bmw or Audi with no character. My bro is always like you should buy this bmw or Merc and it's just not me. Keep up the good work.

      Kris Nicholson I'm sure it is. But I should of been more specific. My brother for example 21 and has bought a Audi a3 bog standard sport and with his finance and insurance is paying close to £500 a month. And all he says is yea but it's a Audi I look at it and just think it's boring. I would rather buy a car cash and make it something great

    • @chriselse515
      @chriselse515 6 лет назад

      Kris Nicholson I tried talking sense into him but he just wanted the Audi badge. I agree the rs3, rs4 , and rs6 are all great cars I love the sound of the rs3 and one of my dream cars to own is the old rs4 the v8 one but they are very much point and squirt and not much involved you get to silly speeds very quick and easy. I drove my mates s3 and found it very flat to drive great off the line but not much fun. We all like different things I just think you can have as much fun in abarth 500 as Lee mentioned without having to spend loads on a car just to say you own that sort of car.

    I have had mine for two years and never noticed the recirculate control icon was a 500, heh. I have a 2015 which is newer than the one in the video, but I agree with most of the points presented here. I know it is very stable, but the high seating position does make me somewhat timid in turns. After two years I still smile every time I drive it, and the exhaust sound never gets old. And if someone thinks it's 'girly', so be it.

    I used to hate on these kind of "cutesy" cars. Until I picked up my girlfriend's Mini One from the garage one day and drove it back for her. The steering feel and response was epic.... So I brought a Mini Cooper S (Supercharged) the following week. Fitted an airtec intercooler (£400) and a simple 17% Pulley (£100) and I was able to outpace my friends Honda S2000, and I could carry a lot more speed through the corners. The smaller cars just have something about them. Was one of the most fun cars I have owned, and I have had my fair share of 200bhp+ turbo imports....

      JayEmm on Cars The Mini handles better than every car I have driven. The only car that comes anywhere near the handling of the Mini is my current car oddly and that's a good 1400kg. If you haven't driven a Legacy GT-B (Bilstein edition)
      For such a huge car, I was absolutely shocked at how good it is in the corners. Would love to see your take on one for the channel if you ever come across one. It almost feels like driving a large Impreza, but with less body roll, a nicer ride and more of a Vtec-Esque kick at the top when the 2nd turbo comes in.
      Great job on that K20 Elise video btw! (Been a subscriber for a while)

      Mr Dayum Fine If I get the chance I will, currently trying to get a Stagea for the channel.
      I reviewed a MINI van a while back and although it has no power it was mental in the corners. Only draw back is it was VERY stiff. But like a little terrier.
      The only other cars quite like it are the Civic Type R FK8 and the Hyundai i30N

    • @mrdayumfine109
      @mrdayumfine109 6 лет назад

      JayEmm on Cars Yeah the mini was incredibly stiff, aparently ditching the runflat tyres helps a lot but I kept mine on (not entirely sure how much difference it makes as I was young at the time, and in my mind, the stiffer the car was.. the more "race car" it felt)
      I never saw a single Stagea in my life before buying the Legacy, and not 2 days after buying it, I had a guy pull up next to me in HIS 20 year old bright yellow stagea who gave me the thumbs up and we had a conversation about the Stagea, the legacy and I believe the Mitsubishi legnum Vr4? As those were the 3 cars that were all gunning for eachother at the time.
      If you are ever in the West Midlands and want to compare the Legacy to the Stagea, your more than welcome to have a go in mine pal. Wouldn't mind knowing how they compare myself.

    I had one in black, stuck a bluespark tuning box on it and a novitec stainless, the thing was epic! Funny story how I got it, my Mrs bought one and while she filled out the paperwork I thought sod it I’ll test drive one, drove it loved it bought it there and then 😂😂 I got ripped for it but it’s a epic pocket rocket, like a modern day Renault 5 gt turbo..

    My Audi S5 is for sale. Properly astonishing car of course, but I may very well get a 500 Abarth next. I’ve never seen anyone drive it who wasn’t grinning ear to ear!

    its 20k here in switzerland, the best driver car for that money here.
    competitors would be like a VP up GTI but it has less HP and is 10k more

    the sardine conv top is the way to go, cargo is poor but the sound of the pipes are so much richer and the top design is like a targa with built in roll cage unlike Mini or Miata

    "The Mrs" has 500C and as a car I love it, it's got more personality in its gear knob than most German cars have in their entirety! I do get what you mean though (it's one of the reasons I don't think I'd buy one myself), I do always feel like I'm sitting on it, not in it.
