In awe of this man. He was very kind and giving. I emailed/asked him what strings he used on his Motown hits and he emailed back right away with a full and honest answer. What a guy!
6 people at a Bob Babbitt Masterclass - the man has only 1 equal the also late great James Jamerson! its a tribute to how under appreciated this guy was - the man was a legend!!!!! I would have given my legs (need my hands to play bass) to have been there!!!!
Not many people have had to step in and try to fill a set of shoes as big as Jamerson's, but Bob hit it out of the park. Seemed like just a great guy to sit and talk shop with. He is sorely missed.
Sir Bob, is an honest, unselfish legendary bass player who doesn't hold back anything & gives everything from his personal experience & knowledge to all bass players & musicians! i miss him very much...rest 'n peace bro'r Babbitt!
It's hard to watch. I knew him quite well as a friend, and someone I worked with. I knew his neat stories he shared with me, and I just knew him like a good friend. I sure do miss him.
I miss Babb so much!! We were friends, and wrote and recorded together. He was the most unselfish, genuine person I ever worked with, and I worked with many major artists. I was so blessed to hang out with him frequently as a friend, and work with him too. He was an awesome human and of course an awesome musician!! I am looking forward to hanging out with him and his wife Ann, in Heaven someday!!
A lifetime of professional music and all that goes with it in a little over an hour. I learned a great deal from Bob in this clinic. And a have a whole new level of respect for the man....Bob is truly a GREAT BASSIST AND MUSICIAN.
i totally understand what he's saying, a lot of musicians fake it & I can read right through that. I'm a bassist & fretless bassist as well & have studied the bass thoroughly. Bob is an awesome bassist. Bob was awesome with Hendrix. My influential bassists are & bassists that I think are amazing are John Entwistle,Victor Wooten,Les Claypool,Flea,Cliff Burton,Peter Ratajczyk,David Ellefson,Billy Sheehan,Lemmy Kilmister,Alex Webster,Steve Dijiorgio,Steve Harris. Those are the bassists that influenced me & bassists that influenced me later in my life as well. I want to dig deeper into bassists like Victor Wooten's style. Anyways cheers from Canada 😃.
He told a story how he went from Upright bass listening to jazz and blues late at night in his parents Kitchen on a tube radio which the Station was known as Race Music that type of music was banned by White people but he Grooved on it and years later when Black music was accepted he was already Into it and found his nitch
Yes! Slap Bass let the synthesizers slip in, I've always thought that and never heard anyone say it. Slapping usually doesn't have a lot of bottom to it and made it more of a lead instrument, who's playing bass here? 🤣
One of the very best ever and a great cat and a dear friend....miss him so much!
Coming from you, Mr. Sklar - there is no higher compliment!. Legends recognize legends!!
