Hell yeah I have 2 of them I used one for 14 years and I used to beat the crap out of it with 300 to 400 watts more than the 500rms they are rated. I broke a tinsel lead other than that it still works great. HX2 one of my favorite subs of all time hands down made in USA.
So if you create a subwoofer with the same cone area the same linear travel but one only requires 1000 Watts RMS to reach those limits in the other one requires 5000 watts to reach those limits is the 5000 watt better than the 1000 watt??? Outside of the power handling capabilities compared to Output...
Cool info I've never really thought much of spider's wearing out because I've never came across it. How long or how much play time would this usually occur? Also if its that wore wouldn't you hear it slapping the motor?
There are many factors that play into a worn-out spider. There is no telling how much time it takes to wear out a spider. It depends on how much power you're giving the subwoofer, if your amplifier is tuned correctly without giving the subwoofer excessive abuse. A 1000 watt subwoofer on a system that is tuned correctly only getting 7 or 800w can last many many years without wearing out excessively. A 1000 watt subwoofer that you're giving 1500 or 2000w will wear out much faster. So if you're looking for your subwoofer to last you a long time make sure your amplifiers are tuned correctly and you are slightly underpowering your woofers. A good rule of thumb if you're looking for a long-lasting woofer obviously it needs to be of good quality and only give it about 70% of its rated RMS. Me personally if I have a 2000 watt subwoofer I'm probably giving it 4000 Watts RMS you might as well enjoy what you have while it lasts.
Playing a sub could cause spider sag but as an old school collector I can confirm that spider sag can occur on a brand new, never used subwoofer. I have run across other collectors that use various methods to fix/alleviate the issue. Some just wedge pool noodles between the basket and cone to hold the cone where the spider is flat. Others on RUclips use various methods to “fix” it immediately. This involves water and a heat gun but I’ve never personally tried it
Doesn’t always come from be played. New subs that have bin stored for long periods of time improperly will have spider sag. Tc sounds own Thilo Stompler had a article about it
So when i turn my system full tilt im clipping the subs very badly. Ik this because i smell them very quickly. I have a taramps smart 3 bass. I was curious because the clip indicator does not indicate clipping. I figured it was my voltage cus it drops to 11.5-11.9 at fully tilt. So my question is can an amp put out bad signal because of voltage drop and at what point would that happen. Thanks JP
I feel like you are either overpowering your subs or the clip indicator isn't working correctly. Voltage drop usually means distortion and or clipping happen earlier (meaning before the amplifier makes its rms power) than the amplifier would normally clip or distort at higher voltage. Truthfully 11.5 isn't terribly bad if that is as low as it gets over extended playing time. Distortion will not overheat a voice coil alone. A bad or dirty output signal will not overheat a voice coil alone. So, with limited info my guess is since the indicator doesn't show clipping then you are overpowering your subs.
I have a few jl audio 10w6 from early 2000s, I believe they are 2003 anniversary edition or something. They sag, and I have noticed they started bottoming out on easy stuff. Your comment has possibly confirmed my suspicions. Thanks!
rockford power hx2's are probably the WORST for spider sag... my guess is there is some non-neutral tension between the spider and the surround... aka the surround is exerting pressure on the spider and it slowly sags... i have a few brand new... NEW in the box powers... and they have sag... not alot... but they do, the more they are played... the worse the sag is going to be over time
or that the builder didn't glue up the cone to the former correctly, id have to see a virgin model to compare it to the driver your speaking of, often times i see people set the subs upside down for a period of time causing this permanent damage to the fabric.
Teach us about subwoofer specs and xmax. Btw always good content thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.

HX2 - 16 years in my Tacoma and still sounds like new !
You’ve had the same sub for 16 years?

So what your saying it rotate between normal mounting and inverted mounting to average out abuse to the spider? 🤔
How much extra box size can you run on a sub outside of recommended enclosure, and is there any benefits to it
Depends on the sub and what power it's getting from the amp along with port tuning...if u want it to be perfect.
Great talking point! Ive heard hairspray works but idk hx2 power subs are awesome anyway!
How would you power a system in a hybrid?

What's a bass blocker? What's the purpose and when do I need one? Just the mid? Just the tweet? Both? Active? Passive? Where do I get it?
Do you sell those kits fix that particular issue?
What are the names of the speaker that you're displaying right now for your video.?

you need an oscilloscope. spend over 100.00 (not the 40.00. Amazon one. mine died) and you won't be disappointed.
If you have multiple subwoofers what makes them move at different times when playing like not hitting at the same time
phase issues
Are you gonna come out with your own brand of subs🤔🤔🤔
JL W6's were terrible for that. Back in like 98. I went through lots of them.
