Nice video, brought back some good memories. Served in Shiel Bks with HQ 1 Ord Bn 89-92 and lived in Allerstrasse. Loved it in Verden, really enjoyed that posting.

I lived in block 19 along with the R.E.M.E. L.A.D. from 1972 - 1974. Our workshops, with the glass front, was directly opposite block 20.
We used to travel to our workshops from Caithness each day and back for lunch (Tiffing, dinner whatever) and then at the end of the day.
That was until, while on duty fitter, I had to go to the Brigadier’s house to repair the washing machine. He was away but I managed to repair it, how I can’t remember but he came to the L.A.D. to thank me and asked what he could do for us.
We said we would like accommodation at Shiel barracks to save on our travel and he said he would do what he could. A couple of weeks later we moved in to block 19 along with the R.M.P.’s and also shared their cookhouse - fantastic!

Thanks for the video Ralph, I served there from 1987 to 1992 and was in the office opposite the DCOS's, great posting. During the latter months it becacame HQ Lower Saxony District and we moved out of Sheil and into Caithness ready for the closure. Also lived in those married quarters you filemd. Really sad to see the place now brought a lump to my throat - good days.

Just popped into verden last week on a visit to see the in laws. Can't believe how much Caithness has changed, most of the blocks are still their but now all modernised, managed to spot we're the old front gate was but Shiel was totally gone. Drove past the grounds twice before I realised, now all nice new houses.

Thanks for the memories. I was based in Shiel Barracks from 1962 until 1965. We used to frequent two nearby pub/hotels named the Waldshenke and Portequelle (my spelling may not be accurate) I wonder if they're still there.

Glad it brought back some memories. We've been back several times over the past 51/2 years. Sadly its demolished and now a housing estate. Caithness has been partly demolished and turned into flats and workshops. My final days in Germany came three months ago when I retired from PRB GUTERSLOH back to the UK. Regards
