    I played the DSL40C at GC today and it is an outstanding amp. Even at low volume it sounded great. The clean tone is to die for. It is incredibly versatile. Thanks for your help!

      I ended up returning the amp. I received 2 of them that died.. One was after the first gig and the second amp died during the first gig with it. I love the amp, but felt like it was the God's telling me to not have it... I since bought a Fender 68" Custom Deluxe Reverb Silverface... I love it and it is very reliable...

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      ***** haha.. Sorry that it did not work out, but also I am glad you found a more suitable amp. It seems hard to get a reliable amp these days. I remember a few years ago going through 4 new Fender amps and as well sending it out for repairs the first week of bedroom practice use. Funny thing is, these name brand amps sound good even great, but the reliability seems ify on the top known brands, including Marshall. I have owned amps made overseas and some has been very tough amps, like an old Crate Excalibur I owned and gigged with for years and years. As the years have gone by, I keep notes on what gear has been good to me. Its a fun journey either way. Thanks TJ :-)

    last I checked, $599 and $699. It is most likely the best sounding richest tube amp I have owned and I am almost ashamed to say how many amps I have owned. That being said, Tweaking was a MUST to control the highs and harsh distortion. I still love playing my solid state/Digital amps very much, its kinda nice to switch it up for a while then later go back to the Marshall to be reminded why tube amps exist. Thanks Friend :-)

    I have been playing the new Blackstar Artist 15, that I put a Greenback in and Tung Sol 5881's instead of the 6L6's and this amp sounds amazing. It has a British tone feel about it. It is also the first amp from Blackstar that isn't a high gain amp. It goes to the edge of breakup and that is where it stops. Excellent with pedals. If you get a chance, you should give it a go.

    for me the Marshall DSL40 is what I prefer for practice, studio and live. It sounds very good and powerful. It is about 40 pounds. The DSL15 is very cool to and has good power but the cleans distort easy. If you like to take the clean channel and turn it all the way up, then this one does it at a lower volume than the DSL40. The DSL40 is loud even on the half power setting, but is a very great option to have.If I got the DSL15,I would be itching to get the DSL40 for full satisfaction. Thanks :-)

    I have this amp and it's okay. I have Seymore Duncan's on my guitar and I had to change the speaker from seventy 80 to g12t75 to get a better sound. Still not enough distortion, you need a tube screamer to get a boost, or a distortion pedal. I honestly have been playing my line 6 spider 3 with a celestion speaker and at low volumes at night it sounds great without pedals on the insane setting.

    Jason. I just bought the dsl in large part do to willys demo and advice. I rented the dsl and the hotrod for a weekend and the dsl was what I personally was looking for. Channel 2 on dsl is not to my liking. But clean/classic channel is dreamy and rich. I use pedals for my od. It takes pedals very well. You should try both and make choice That way. Good luck.

    I have a Carvin V16, the older one with the reverb tank. I recommend you watch craigslist for a Nomad with reverb tank. Nomads and Belairs are awesome for vintage tone . However, your demo is making me want a Marshall Dsl40!

      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      haha, it is a pretty cool amp, I had to work at controlling the brightness of the amp to a far degree, but after I tamed it, it proved to be a keeper. Carvin is a great company. USA made quality gear at a great price.It seems like it is a best kept secret haha. They have been around forever. If God lets me live long enough, I am sure I will get to own a Nomad sooner or later :-) Thanks Friend :-)

    willy booger,
    sup dawgy.
    I have the old DSL 40. my fave amp out of all 19. just something about it. these amps were known to over heat
    a bit, I think that's why they sound so good for harder music types. I don't like them for blues though. I just don't
    think they have what it takes. for now I use my 1st run fender blues jr tweed for blues. I want a 60's deluxe reverb
    and the jr might be retired.

    Great demo :) Have you tried the JVM 205 Combo? If you did, how does DSL and JVM combos compare in your opinion. Is it worth the x2 price?

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      If money was not a factor, I would buy the JVM 205. What I like about it is that there is more control over the sound because of the separate EQ (Tone Stacks). The DSL 40 has a different EQ sound when switching from clean to the distortion channel. For local open jams to home practicing and recording, the DSL can do a great job. If I was going on the road professionally, I would prefer the JVM 205. Thanks Friend :-)

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      haha, I turned the treble knob all the way to 0, as well as the presence knob to 0. I spent a lot of time with the knob settings.Seems like no matter what I did, the amp sounded good but very bright. Finally, I just turned Treb,Presence all the way off and that took out the unwanted brightness.Funny thing, it sounds great and more controlled, but still has a bright sound. Sounds great and usable now for me.Other amps I have owned, I did not need to go that extreme. Thanks friend :-)

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      Tough call. It depends on you.If you can, try them both out.They are definitely different sounding amps.The treble is strong on the Marshall, when switching channels you may feel like EQing differently ,but there is only one tone stack.Seems less of a difference on the Fender.Marshall has the rocking sounds that Marshall should have and the cleans are very good.Fenders distortion is not so much like that to me, but a great clean sound and the distortion has great blues to modern blues/rock leads,but somewhat buzzy on the low notes crunching.Still very cool amps. Happy Choosing :-)

    Man, great review and killer playing style!! But one question, 'cause I'm about to buy one of that exactly to myself, but I'm a little worried about the volume of that... Is it too loud for practicing at home? I live "wall to wall" to my neighbours and I don't want to fuck it up their soap opera time, you know what I mean? lol But, seriously, is it too loud to practicing at home? Do you think that I can have the good sound of that during practicing in a "medium" volume, like at volume 3 or 5, even in full 40 watts?? Tnks for the answer in advance brother!! #FromBrazil

      In this video I had the volume at a lower room volume and this is what it sounds like. It can be stage loud but to me also sounds good at lower volumes. I always recommend, if possible to try the amp out before you buy. Thanks Friend :-)

    Great demo! Is this amp loud enough without a mic to do bar gigs. We play 60's-90's. rock. I'd be playing all rhythm with it, no leads.

      +RBProductions815 I feel this amp is very loud and should be able to keep up with most drummers.

      Willy Booger Thanks Willy. I am going to get it. I think its tone will really compliment our style. Sweetwater is selling them right now with a celestion creamback speaker upgrade from the seventy 80. Cant go wrong with a Marshall!

    Hey, what volume were you playing at in this demo? I'm thinking about getting this amp, but a lot of the time I'll be playing at low volumes, and I'm wondering if it'll still sound okay... maybe in the half-wattage mode? Lemme know if you'd recommend it for bedroom playing, or if I should go with something a little less powerful. I live in a single family home, not an apartment, so I don't have to be WHISPER quiet, but still... Thanks!

      +jonfitforbattle In this demo, it was at a reasonable room practice volume.

    Great demo, i am thinking about this amp but i am told the treble is pierceing high, what are your thoughts.

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      I find the clean channel is pretty easy to manage. When the distortion channel is engaged, it seems to get very bright.I have tamed that down by adjusting the treble and presence all the way to "0". The amp has one tone stack total for the clean and distortion channel,so switching channels I tend to manually change tone settings. There are modifications you can do to make it more manageable. Overall, it is still a good sounding amp. Thanks :-)

      I like my Marshall Amp. I really badly want to try out some Carvin Amps, especially the Nomad. In fact, I wanted to so much that I sent them a formal offer of my services to demo their gear. I have not received any reply yet. Money is tight, that is why I offered this or I just would buy one, which is really priced well. Thanks Friend :-)

      I am using Stock Marshall branded, what came with the amp. I like Tung Sol 12Ax7, JJ and Sovtek has been good to me. I know there are Cryogenic Tubes and rare NOS tubes that can cost more than twice the amp. They will not make me play better though...haha, if you change them do not forget to bias the amp. Thanks friend :-)

    Hey Willy, great demo as always. I was wondering how you'd compare the DSL40C to the Peavey Classic 30? They both seem like excellent lower-watt pedal platforms with good natural tone to boot. Thanks for your feedback, and God bless!

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  9 лет назад

      In my opinion they are very different. The Cleans on the Marshall are very good with fullness and the distortion, well is a Marshall Distortion, but the fact that you can lower the wattage to about 20 watts is great for me because the triode mode has a pretty good Bluesy sound. The Peavey Classic 30 is a good amp, it has less bass and warmth. It does seem like they fixed the tube rattle. The distortion seems a little harsh but still ok. I do feel the Peavey may be more reliable.I remember running external pedals through the Peavey with good results. Overall it really is taste. If you can, try before you buy. It is really only my opinion. Thanks Friend, God Bless :-)

      Hi again Willy,
      I noticed you have a BBE sonic maximiser rack mount unit ..Do you use that often and if so , how much does it actually compliment the tone of your amps.
      Thanks

      haha.. good observation, but do not let what you see fool you. I cannot remember ANY recording where I used it on my guitar. When I record my guitar playing I do not do any magic tricks with the basic initial setup. I like to mic out my speaker from the Guitar amp. I position the mic with a certain technique finding what I feel is the sweet spot. Then straight into the interface. I do not EQ the guitar amp recording either. I will not tell all I do, but I will tell you LESS is definitely MORE in this case for me. If I ever need to EQ and much tweaking, it would be to fix a problem in the case of my Blues Guitar Playing. I do like it for running my bass guitar through it and for other reasons. It does a nice job as an extra tool, but it is not the final secret for me. This is only my opinion and certainly everyone has many ways they like to do things, this is just my way. Thanks Friend :-)

    I can't get that sound on my dsl, I am playing an SG though it sounds best in the bass position for blues I love my SG and was thinking of going with a Peavey Delta blues, please don't say buy a fender I just don't like em. I'm a Gibson guy it seems all the great Rockers in the 70's were using SG's or Les pauls now everybody's using freakin Strat's But that blues sound you get is what I want and just can't find it on the Marshall. any suggestions besides quit playing ? lol be kind You Rock! btw Where did you have the bass mid and treble at ? and gain ?

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  9 лет назад

      Greg Jay Hi Greg, it seems we all are chasing tone ..haha. I guess it never ends. There are some great blues players that use a SG. I am not sure how to tell you exactly how to get that certain bluesy tone. I currently like my single coil at the neck and a humbucker at the bridge. Maybe you can take your guitar to a music store and test it out through some guitar amps and see what happens. I cannot remember my settings to much. I keep the treble and presence low. I prefer it in triode mode. I max out gain on clean channel and on the ultra gain channel about 12 to 2 o'clock on first gain level. Never quite playing ...haha its too fun goofing around with it. Good luck Friend, hope you find your tone.

      Willy Booger Thanks, I love your vids would love to see you live, I live in Michigan around Detroit if your ever up here please let me know. I miss my Delta blues but am warming up to the marshall I took your advice. I like the triad mode better also seems warmer. I get a great rock crunch I was wondering what you think of maybe a blues pedal or something to give me a bluesier clean ? also I am looking at an Epiphone 335 copy what are your thoughts on those? I can not afford a real 335 don't have thousands to spend just hundreds lol thanks for the fast reply. I was thinking of getting either a boss Mo-2 overtone pedal or a blues screamer. but maybe Ill just tinker around with my knobs a bit more. thanks again

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  9 лет назад

      Greg Jay Sure thing Greg, I hope to get to play there! I use to own the Peavey Delta Blues 15inch. It is a pretty cool amp also. Just a note: in case you did not know, when you switch triode and pentode modes, put the amp in standby mode when you do the switching, it protects the amp. In my past I liked to stay completely pure and not use pedals. I really do like pedals with my tube amp though. I like classic blues sounds all the way to over the top distorted blues. So pedals can help refine all those areas, plus the amp by itself sounds cool. Nothing wrong with an Epiphone. You can set it up to play smooth and there should be no problems. Thanks Greg and God Bless :-)

      Well Thanks again for the advice my favorite player or infulence has been Mick Taylor and I really like how effortless you play let me know when you come to Detroit for sure,in case you never been here its not like what people think. yeah the inner city is rough, but the suburbs are really cool and there's a lot of people here that love the blues and I'm one of them

    Hey man. I like all the sounds you get from the amp. I just bought it brand new for $460! Anyway, on the classic channel its really bassy sounding and on the ultra channel its really trebely sounding. Could you recommend me settings so that it balances out? Its really annoying and i cant get a good gain sound. Thanks.

    • @Joemommas
      @Joemommas 10 лет назад

      And also the clean is very low in volume and once i push in the crunch it gets so loud.

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      ***** What I did is, on the clean channel turn the treble and presence all the way down completely, set the bass and mid to my liking then on the drive channel put on lead 1 and the gain setting to about 1 o'clock switch back and forth from clean and gain channel to find a happy medium through adjustments. I hope that helps, sorry you are having troubles. Take care :-)

    • @Joemommas
      @Joemommas 10 лет назад

      Willy Booger When i click on lead 1 even with my gutiar volume a whole bunch of gain noise comes from the speaker. Is there any way i can stop this? Thanks.

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      ***** it is normal on the gain channel to get some hissing sounds and possible guitar feed back at louder volumes. Some musicians may use a noise gate to try to control some feedback sounds. Volume levels can change when the amp goes from clean to drive. Thanks :-)

      I actually just got the HT but the special edition one with the Vintage 30 speaker which makes it better the others with stock but i feel the distortion is not as good as the DSL 40 which has that bassy loud crunch. The clean is pretty amazing though and much better than the DSL but idk im thinking of going to the DSL 40.

    I play in a praise band where we have amps turned around with baffles... I use in ears and everything is controlled out front. I use pedals for dirt. Is this amp too powerful for a praise situation?

    • @WillyBooger
      @WillyBooger  10 лет назад

      In this video I had the volume at a low room level. I think the clean channel is really good and if you use pedals it should sound sweet. There is not a line out except the FX loop, which in my opinion, using that as a line out has not brought out the best in any amp. With proper micing, should be good. :-)
