I have seen about 100 Dylan shows, he don't really dance, he shuffles. I appreciate and did like your review on the show, but as far as him forgetting names, we do have to remember he is 80 years old. We would all be lucky to be working at that age let alone remembering people's names. Lucky you got to hear him speak at all, 99%of the shows I saw him, he said nothing to the audience and that was ok with his die hard fans ❤
I am just finishing Chronicles. I saw Koerner Ray and Glover in Minneapolis - up close in the 1980s and my Mom saw Bob in 1959 at the 5 O'Clock Scholar in Dinkytown - and she immediately thought - who is this guy with the scratchy voice? Hilarious. I had not heard of Lonnie Johnson before and Bob's book clued me in. Lonnie Johnson is credited with teaching Bob a "triplet" melody trick to make his lyrics more musical I guess. Lonnie Johnson was a total genius of the blues and Jazz guitar and violin - and I immediately made the longest playlist of Lonnie JOhnson on youtube - 700 different uploads.

I'm going to see him and the band in NYC on November 20. From what I am hearing from folks, this is going to be one hell of a show. BTW, this will be my 24th Bob show since 2002 when I first saw him.

We dont care about hearing the "old songs" We've heard them. The loyal faithful want the new songs. We've heard the hits. We've been waiting for these songs. Playing Rough and Rowdy was EPIC. Since you've only seen him "three times" you got on the Bob Train a bit late....so you probably dont know how much we were waiting to hear the Rough and Rowdy songs.
I certainly wasn’t expecting a nostalgia act… Dylan’s never been in for that… rough and rowdy is a stellar album and I loved the concert… not sure where you heard different in the video. As far as only having seen him three times and being new to Dylan, not really… been listening since middle school… obviously you and I simply “prioritize” differently.
Wow! I know he called it the Rough and Rowdy Ways tour but I didn't expect Bob to play so many songs from that album. Has he ever played a gig that leaned so heavily on one album? Wish I'd been there.
I did a quick set list search to check, bumped it up against similar tours surrounding love and theft and modern times from the early aughts… looks like never this heavy on one new album. He played everything but “crossing the rubicon” and “murder most foul” from Rough and Rowdy… Dylan never settles for being a nostalgia act, and when you’re 39th(!) album is this well received by critics and fans, you can get away with it. I’ve also seen him here in the UK about 25 times over the years with some great and some awful shows along the way. From what I’ve heard of this new tour and his recent TV special “Shadow Kingdom” he is singing better now than at any time since the millennium. He’s looking a bit stiff though on the clips I’ve seen not moving around with any confidence - hopefully that will improve as the tour progresses.
@@PlayThatPodcast Thank you! Tonight he was scheduled for 8 pm and went on at 8:04 pm. The couple next to us have seen him numerous times and said he's famous for hitting the stage right on time. It was a really good show. His singing was absolutely fantastic. I was sad I didn't get to see him play guitar (just piano and harmonica). The set was very similar to what you guys saw. Curious if you got an encore. We didn't.
@@lefthandluke8923 There was a point where I wasn't sure if we were getting an encore, because the band shuffled offstage without much warning and a bit awkwardly. But after a few minute, they came back and played Love Sick & It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry.
Apparently he used a lot of Key West advertising slogans in the lyrics to the song. Taken a while for that one to grow on me too but it’s starting to click.

Yeah that was my only disappointment -- I would have liked to see Charlie remain in the band. Oh well, still a great show!
