This enclosure is brilliant on so many levels. Not just the science of the riparian environment, but the science for the specific animals, the otters, are astounding.
@@EdThePondProfessor Couldn't agree more. Love watching you work, and listening to you explain the biometrics of everything. Can't wait to have you and your crew at my place building one for me! P.s.- A man can dream can't he? Lol, maybe one day...
It has really developed into a spectacular enclosure for the Otters. It is very nice to watch them exploring to quench their curiosity. It is going to be very expensive keeping them, they just eat Fish in no time at all. I appreciate you sharing. Thankyou very much Ed. Take care Sir. 👍😊❤️
It turned out absolutely beautiful just amazing! Clearly the otters living their best lives in the new habitat!! The only question I have is there anything else besides the sun shade you can do to combat the algae?!
Thanks!!! Yes, There are several things we do to control algal growth. It starts with a Prefilter to remove Large Organic compounds(Leaves, uneaten food particles) A Biological Filter to breakdown dissolved organic compounds(Nitrogen) Adequate circulation, A wide variety of water treatments are specifically formulated for algae control. The system will be more prone to more algae in the first two years until the ecosystem has been fully established
Erm...... obviously the otters are the main attraction in this series of videos but from the perspective of Aquascape, I was also looking forward to seeing how the window looked....... why was that not shown?
absolutely love what you have done this is my first video I've watched on your channel thank KENAN HARKIN (KAMP KENAN) when you helped with the Caimen Crocodile falls/ponds that I found out about your channel have heard about you but not your channel maybe one day in the future when I get my own property I know who to contact
Ed, where are the emergent plants in the system? Without the plants, the wetland filter will convert the ammonia to nitrates. But the nitrates won't be removed from the system. Are there plans to put emergent plants in the pond? ❓️
Great question! No, The Otters will destroy the plants, Nitrate removal will still happen through algal growth and several anaerobic zones within the feature.
We shot a bunch of videos and pics through the window, I wanted to focus on the animals….. The window was a challenge to install and I’m happy it works as designed!
Great question! It would eventually cause a problem because the continued tree growth would utilize a lot of water through the process of Evaporative Transpiration, it would become difficult to keep the pond full of water. The other problem would be the root mass may clog the filter bed on the bottom of the pond. I don’t think it would be an issue for at least 10 years probably more…
@@EdThePondProfessor thank you I was kinda wondering about the root mass , it is amazing that it’s growing though. I love plants and they always amaze me with their resilience.
2:09 Hi Ed, I'm from indonesia, please tell me, its normal for a pond to have a water drop at the beginning? i'm beginning to think maybe i had a leak somewhere..

Thats awesome, didnt even cross my mind that since the oak was cut live, it would continue to sprout. That is going to be beautiful!
It’s crazy!!!
I hope it takes off…..

Thankfully Blake has the Aviary pond to supply him with a lot of fresh fish!
@@EdThePondProfessor It is my pleasure Sis.
That is true, that he does. 👍😊❤️
So funny that the otters don't like pants. This is a beautiful home for a beautiful and entertaining animal.
I Love B.E.A.R. You have to be one of the top pond guys in the country, yes?
B.E.A.R. Is Awesome!!!
Thank you!!!

I’ve been designing and building Ponds since 1993!
Wow, that turned out amazing! Loved hearing all the great ecology talk and watching the otters enjoy their new home. Great job, Ed and all involved.
Thanks!!!

It’s Great Subject Material…..
This is really maturing nicely!
Everything grows fast in Florida!
Happy Otters!

His goats and chickens need a stream in their enclosure! They're feeling left out!!😂
Your right!!!
@@EdThePondProfessor or like a pondless waterfall. Big rocks for the goats would be so cool!😎
How cool!

Some fresh clams, crabs, clawfish would be awesome to have for them to hunt
Absolutely!!!
Blake said he will add them to the feature soon….
Can you fill the pond with minnows so that the otters can hunt and search? Minnows are a fast moving fish. Just a thought. Pond looks super!!!
That’s a great idea!!!
Was waiting to see this from soo long. Great job!!! 👍🏻
Thanks for your support!!!
@@EdThePondProfessor always!!
Mmm...tilapia! I'd eat them too!
I wonder if there's a fish that would taste bad to an otter...
I love Tilapia Tacos!
Bad tasting fish???
Good question!
Nice!

Question Ed if that tree starts putting off roots and growing , can it mess up the pond?

How much water loss did you experience?
