Hey Misbah, sorry for delay. Architectural engineering is a hybrid degree that teaches you engineering + architectural aspects. Depending on the school, you’ll have an engineering degree that is slightly less geared towards structural engineering (how things work / stand / strengths / materials / etc) and a little more towards architecture (design, aesthetic, integration, feel, etc). Civil engineering is the broad singular major, whereas architectural engineering is pretty much a facet of civil, just more specifically attached to architecture. Don’t worry about what you think the best path is after college. If you are into architecture, take that class or the arch engineering class and see how it goes 😊 If you only have civil as the option, I guess I do not understand the issue? Sometimes no options is the best situation. If you want the 1% Engineer kit, you can get that here k eepurl.com/cCh1jn
Alright.. I have a question I live in nj I wanna b an architect and an architectural engineer In nj no schools offer architectural engineering majors I cant go out of state that's not an option Njit offers architecture as a major Also civil engineering I was thinking doing both majors could land me experience i both areas.. Thats were the double degree comes in They offer civil and architecture which can b done in 6 yrs So my questions: Do u think the double degree is appropriate to persue both careers? Is civil engineering the best alternative for a major in architectural engineering, if not what? Do u think i should specialize in an area in civil, such as structural or industrial? Or maybe scrap engineering all together and just do architecture in 5yrs which i would hate to do😞 I wanna do both jobs But if i would have to choose 1.. I would choose architecture I look forward to your quick reply Thanks
Hey! Hello! I'm new in the channel, I love it... Do you know something about graduate programs for civil engineers in Korea?... the better ones, the new ones and things like that...
Sorry Derv, never saw this. I'm in Delaware so shout out to east coast fam! Don't do both majors, double majoring is pointless honestly. No jobs care about that. You learn most of the stuff for your career on the job, so you won't have a single advantage. You'd be wasting 2 years if you did a double in 6. Civil engineering is more in demand, pays more, and you can shift towards architecture if you like, but you cannot do it the other way around. When you major in civil, near the end of your degree, you will have tech electives. With these tech electives, you can take courses in a focus area like structural or industrial in order to understand if you like a certain field more. If you find you don't like those tech electives, great. That's a good way to understand what you like and don't like. If you already are feeling about one vs the other, do what you believe is best. Examine your skills. Are you good at math / physics? Pretty good, or just barely. Do you like them? Are you a super creative person / artists. More design / creative people should do architecture. Math gurus should do engineering. The path will present itself along the way. Don't worry. Just be confident that it will. Cheers! Here is our FB group ok facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/
The point is, architects and engineers should be working hand in hand to create an aesthetically pleasing, functional and strong building. Architecture is more than just art lol. Architecture students take math and science subjects too but I agree its not that deep because its the engineer's job to compute the architect's design. No offense, just stating my opinion. Great channel tho. Kudos to you!
Heyyy Notso, thanks for watching and for commenting! Yes you are 100% right! I know it's more than just art, and talk about that in the video :) Definitely no offense, I love feedback. I made this video in a slight silly fashion, but it's quickly become my #2 video, second best performing one. So maybe a second is required where I interview an architect :) thanks!
In my country, you have the following courses: civil engineer, architecture and a civil-engineer-architecture. The last one is a combination where you learn architecture with less art and more sience
An Architect will design what the outside and inside surfaces look like as their priority. They also dabble in making sure it won't fall over and has proper water-shedding capabilities, but the brunt of making it stand up and support loads goes to structural engineers, making it hold a temperature set-point and has running fluids goes to mechanical engineers, and powering all of its systems goes to electrical engineers. Without engineers, you would have an empty shell, and without architects you would have an incredibly boring building. Both are necessary to build a building, but a lot of architects have God complexes at my school.
Dang you guys too huh. I'd love to do a collab with you if you want? This is my #2 best performing video, I should make more videos about architecture life and projects and things like this. Let me know. You can get the 1% Engineer Kit (several ebooks) here eepurl.com/cCh1jn and access to the 1% FB group here facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/
Still in high school but already having to sleep for only four hours at least twice a week. Well, my college days should be pretty easy to get used to then
You cannot compare the workload of an architecture student to an engineer's. I go to one of the top engineering schools in the country - and study architecture. An architecture degree is actually considered to be more rigorous (not in terms difficulty) but in terms of effort. You must be passionate to succeed. Engineering students have time for extra curricular activities, partying, etc. An architecture student will barely have time to eat or sleep. It is a culture which many schools are trying to move away from. After speaking to many students, I've realized that a large majority of engineering students are in it due to financial stability in the future, as opposed to architecture students who are simply passionate about what they are doing.
I'm an Architect but I like the Theory of Civil Engineering,.. the stability of the structure and the safety of it, technicality, economically, practicality...helps me a lot of creating a concept of design... when I'm designing most of the building I consider all the structural aspects for the safety of the building and its future users, thanks to you guys,.. :) :) a great partnership for building the world. :) together we build for the civilization of our generation,.. the Modern Architecture and Engineering,... (y)
I'm an architecture student 1st year 😁 We do learn about structures.. Tensions compression, physics, load path Obviously not extreme like you guys At the end of the day Neither side can have a completed perfect building if we don't work together 🙃🙃 kudos m8 hehe
100% on that. When I did this simple episode 020 of what is now 084 episodes, i never predicted that this video would rise to #2. If so, I would have never made a joke or two about architects / architecture, bc I do respect it very much. You're right, we absolutely need one another :) Let me know if you have any questions or need any help with anything okay? Cheers!
I’ve been on the architecture side for a few years now, I’m a highschool student. This sucks because I love math and chemistry, but I prefer the work of an architect. Also I’m creative, but I’m not really too interested in art. I’m like stuck in between but for now I’m sticking on the architecture side I guess. Thanks for the video :)
Jake Voorhees well I just finished my second year of drafting, I’ve had all A’s so far which is good. I’m planning on going to LSU which has a great design school and obtaining my bachelors degree. I hope I do great
Wow crazy JB! Thanks for watching and for posting! Appreciate that. Let me know what other questions you have, and I can make you a video on that. I have 250+ engineers and some architects in a FB group if you wanna discuss any topics in those sphere's. Here it is facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/ and if you want The 1% Engineer kit, a bunch of ebooks, you can get that here eepurl.com/cCh1jn cheers!
настя корн I had a professor in college that pursued Architecture after Civil Engineering and Master Plumber and she's now on her early 30s. She's a monster.
JB how does that work? I’m considering doing both because I like designing but also doing the physical work of building it. What job would u go Into to mesh both of them?
Architects and Civil Engineers are like husband and wife together bringing up a beautiful and stable Creation. So lets together make more stable and aesthetic wonders :). I myself an Architect here.
I made a video comparing the 2 on my channel, pick Architecture if you enjoy drawing and planning it from a big picture perspective, and engineering if you prefer doing pure number based calculations and being pretty detailed, it's pretty different.
I dont really consider civil engineers as "engineers". I see it more as a right hand need for architects. Obviously architects have to do so much with a finite amount of time. So they needed specialized architects to compute if the design will work on planet earth with certain materials and parameters. So these specialized architects are called "civil engineers". The true engineering fields are mechanical and electrical. Chemical engineers are just industrial chemists who can design systems to scale up products. Bio engineers not so sure if I could classify that field in biology or engineering.
wow you are very interactive in your comment thread, which is great! And you even offer help, even more great! :D Great video btw.! :) I'm going to share this to people asking me of the difference bet. Architecture and Civil Engineering. Kudos to you Sir!
Heyy Zenelle, thank you for watching and thank you for noticing this :) I mentor a lottttt of student, so the comments are the first area where I can help and add value. Let me know if you're an engineer or architect, and have any questions yourself. I have a FB group where we post about lots of these convos :) facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/
Heyyy super noodles, thanks for watching and commenting! Congrats on starting your architecture journey! What other questions / struggles / issues do you have? Let me know, and I can help you out w those! Cheers! -Jake
Hmmm, not necessarily about those, but my advice is usually for you to stay after class and chat with your professors about this sort of thing. Work on your vanishing point drawings with friends and classmates. Go to office hours for help, build a relationship with your TA, etc. I also have a FB group with some architects, feel free to connect so I can invite you, cheers! facebook.com/
I am civil engineer But i love architecture Now i am working in highway sector On other side i ve read a lots of architecture books And watching many lectures And start to draw landscape designs And many people like it So i can describe my self as Fully Civil engineered with little architectural topping for garnish 😂😂😂
Civil or architecture which one is best. Civil engg is my dream but unfortunately I have selected for B.architecture .bro tell me Take admission or not.
Heyyy Zack, thanks for watching man and thanks for commenting. Welcome to 1% Nation!! Pls let me know what other questions / concerns / or issues you may be having in deciding if architecture is the right path, choosing a school, being ready, etc, and I can help you out or make a video for you. Cheers!
i would like to know how much is it worth to be an architect in my country(india). and which country is good/best to be resided by architects in terms of salary, living, other living aspects. thanks for the video though....
yeah good question, I can make a video about this one day. If you havent signed up yet to get The 1% Engineer Kit, you can do so here eepurl.com/cCh1jn
@Blue eyed Eurasian it is the other way around mate. architect dont need an eng to build a house. there are some simple rule of thumbs for all that you do, and dont forget that architects build thousands of years buildings on their own without eng, cuz every architect is an eng, but not one eng is an architect mate. dont forget that, that was free for you.
@@pianoingels7128 However, Engineers are the one that make it safe. Most buildings made by archeitects long time ago weren't that safe and couldn't stand earthquakes. Btw the modern architects really only design. Really engineers get the building from the architect's brain to the ground we all stand on
So in all how long does it take to finish schooling for civil engineering? Also I am a full time electrician 3yrs experience about to be a journeyman do you think that experience will help me out ?
im currently studying civil engineering in uc berkeley. there are different parts that you can emphasize in such as structural, transportation ect. which one do you think will have the greatest impact in the future ?
Good afternoon I need advice about getting a job that’s going to help me for civil engineering. I been working as cleaner for offices since high school, and now I’m half way done with my college to uta university. I been thinking going on working on construction or for the city of Irving to gain some experience. What jobs can I do to get ready for civil engineering?
great question. you can work in any construction industry job, any construction management intern or support person, you can be an engineering technician or a drafter, you can work on a surveying team, you can be a part of a land development firm, you could work in an architects team, etc. lots
architecture curriculum varies from country to country, in our country architecture is like 40% engineering 60% architecture we have engineering math from 1st-5th year, we can do structural design for any 1-5th storey building but we don't sign on structural papers lol so we leave it to engineers.
Deus Ex Machina, yeah man you're 100% right. I'm realizing this as more and more people comment and this video becomes my #2 best performing one hahahaha. What country are you from? Let me know what other questions you have, and how I can help you. If you'd like The 1% Engineer kit, you can get that here eepurl.com/cCh1jn this is the FB group too, its a mastermind eepurl.com/cCh1jn
I’m a senior now and I’m tryna decide on what I wanna do for the rest of my life. I’ve always been a perfectionist when it comes to interior design and I always have ideas on what I would do with spaces when i walk into peoples homes or institutions. The only thing is I’m not really good at art and drawing my math is alright. Do u think I can still do it with the lack of art?
So would it make any sense to major in one of these and minor in the other? Would there be other, more relevant minors to get when majoring in these fields?
Hey Caleb, great question. Well I honestly think that would not be the best, as despite the fact that these fields seem truly related, they are different enough that you can't really career hop, so I don't think it would help. I don't think the credit overlap is strong enough, so you'd probably take a whole extra year for it. I think you have to choose the one that's for you. An engineer who knows they want to be a business leader and minors in business - that's a good idea. Or a technical engineer who takes a lot or programming. Or an architect who doubles down on certain types of design or who takes extra business courses. Those are good combos imo. I think you should spark up this convo in the 1% Engineer FB group facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/Cheers!
Wow, I'm truly impressed by the fact that you answered to all of the comments (at least all I saw), that's what I call real dedication right there. And also congratulations for such a great video, it was really intuitive and helpful to me (I guess I'll be going with engineering, too 🙂). Hats off to you 👏.
Sure I think the right combination is undergrad in civil and then masters in architecture or architectural engineering if you really need it and love that lane enough. Architecture alone is risky I think. Bureau of labor statistics shows 133,000 architecture jobs vs 327,000 civil engineering
Hello Jake, I m in my junior year in civil engineering. I ve been working for myself all my life and been very successful, but I decided to go back and finish my degree. My goal is to have my small start up company after 6-8 years of experience working for different companies. But I would like to know which discipline will be easier to start a small firm, so I can focus from now on that field. Thank you again.
I’m extremely torn. I’ve always been naturally good with numbers and absolutely love the puzzle aspect of mathematical problems, but I also have a passion for art and creatives with my artwork being something I’ve won awards for at a state level. I am taking and have taken accelerated courses in both areas and am completely in love with both and have no idea which side to choose. Any advice to give?
yeah i think engineering is safer. 330,000 jobs vs 113,000. more pay. more flexibility because you can go into several areas. More connection to downstream opportunities. You can always get a masters in architecture, and explore structural engineering within civil, and get as close as you can and bridge the divide. Hows that sound?
... What if I kinda suck at both? I seriously suck at being creative, and I'm not that good with numbers (even though I like them better honestly) any advice...?
Hi Jake! Great video that gave me insight the differences on the civil eng and architecture major. I wanted to ask you for ur advice on my desired career path and on how I should pursue it. I have a deep passion for architecture and massing of buildings but also would like to learn aspects of structural analysis, logistics of a building etc. So, after some research, I decided it would be the best option to opt for a bachelors degree in civil engineering (mainly for flexibility as I heard the job market for architects is saturated at the moment), and then take further courses and graduate studies in architecture. My question is, can I work as an architect with valuable engineering knowledge by taking this study path? As there are some opinions on that I can’t connect between the two and doing a civil eng degree doesn’t qualify me to do further studies on architecture and work in this field. So pls share your advice on the best way regarding how I can take this path and to which I hope that its a possible route. Thank you!🙏🙏
There are 5-6 different types of civils. Structures, transportation, environmental, coastal, water resources, and geotech. Salary depends where you are, but in the US, its $50-55k starting salary which is above most majors, but on the lower end for engineering. However, all engineering is higher than lots of other majors :) You can get the 1% Engineer kit here if you want eepurl.com/cCh1jn
Somehow landed on this video and ended up watching the whole thing because I find it very informative and interesting. Unfortunately, I dont have enough knowledge to ask more insightful questions but just from reading the questions and answers from the comment section already taught me a lot.
I’m confused on what I want. I am both. I LOVE math. I also LOVE the aesthetic of things. I’m in an architecture class and an engineering class and I really love both is there anything that’s a mix of both?
I hear a lot of people in your situation doing CE for undergrad because there are more jobs and good pay, and then I’d you want, get your masters in architecture or architectural engineering so you can go in either lane !!!
+Junior Quinones hey Junior thanks for watching and commenting. you can still be creative within engineering. In fact, most engineers lack some creativity so you will stand out and be a better engineer if you are creative :)
Architects use math my man. It is a mixture of science, art, and math. Engineers focus on solving a problem and understanding how things work. I have friends who are architects who are brilliant. Choose a field where your interests lie. Just remember , no matter what field you choose, you better get good at it if you want to be part of the engineering community or architect community.
@@JavBarcaCoppiSol8 You are a victim of believing a major equals career. As I stated to another person any architect can be a "civil engineer". If you dont have the mindset of always learning, then you won't last in any field.
im studying civil angineering and im about to get my degree in a few months...the think is that i like very much computing stuff like programming...im thinking of going for a master at software development or programming.whats your thoughts in jobs like civil engineering software development?
Im still confused because im very strong at math & physics but at the same time i do like architecture more i dont know how to draw or be creative but i really like it so i dont know what to do i might copy architects ideas & never be that 100% creative but i really like looking at every kind of building & exploring them its my passion for example if i see a weird architectural building i would like to look at it & see how its done & take a pic of it
Sameee I'm pretty solid at math and physics but at the same time I really really love architecture just thinking about it kind of makes me happy but I look at architecture work and I wonder if I can ever draw like that
Form follows function any architect knows that a good architect is the one that makes a solution that's aethestically pleasing and solves whatever solution is presented. so reasoning is a part of of an architect's vision.
Thank you ! I was a little hard on architects in this video and I had no idea it would be come my 2nd or 3rd best performing video, but it is what it is. I'm remaking this soon as we just picked up Penn State's Architectural Engineering program as a sponsor :) let me know how I can help you next ok? Cheeeerrrsss
hello i am going into college sometime next year and I currently don't know if i want to do architecture or civil engineering. My passion has always been designing objects and buildings. however i don't know if i want to base my career off of art and design, and would rather have something set in stone. Im pretty good at math so i was looking into being a civil engineer and i also like problem solving but i do like design so I'm not sure if its what i want to do. I would think i would go for architecture but I'm really just not sure. What would you say? thank you
Lulu, thank you for watching and thank you for leaving this comment! Let me know how far along you are with architecture, and what questions you may have so I can help you out and maybe make a video about those. Also, if you'd like to join The 1% Engineer mastermind group, you can get access to that here facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/ here's the 1% Engineer kit too eepurl.com/cCh1jn its like 6 ebooks so you can crush it!
Jake Voorhees do architects have a stable work.. like in terms is it a regular office kind of work uk.??What's the median salary of each? And do architects use physics? Does takung architecture courses necessarily need excellent drawing ability?.. I'm sorry but would be glad to get the answers for these questions.. if you do answer. Thank you
lol 2nd-year civil engineer here... good luck......getting sleep.... my Architect friends are dying with the workload they currently have. but honestly best of luck to you.
I watched this video like 10 times and i still don't know what i should do. I like to draw, build things and i am really good at maths. What should I do?
Hey Jake! I really like your channel! Anyway😂 small question, im in high school right now... And im planning to study arquitecture. I consider my self a relatively creative person, but I also love math, science and physics! And im good at it... What you think i shoud do?
I really need your help :( In high school, I used to love architecture. But I didn't apply for it because I didn't know how to draw (I still suck at it). So I decided I'm gonna study civil and I HATE IT. It's my third year in University (Repeated 1st year last year, now doing 2nd year but I'm failing again) so I don't know if I should move to Architecture?? Heel
I've always have been interested in Engineering And Architecture Since I was young. when I was young I didn't know the difference. but I'm pretty bad at math.. help!
Heyyyy SlimsyCash, thanks for watching and commenting. K so do you like design / buildings / drawings / etc attracted to archiecture but you're just bad at math? What else do you like? Have you tried coding? Let me know where your interests / hobbies / excitement / passions lie, and we can figure this out 4 you. Maybe your heart is on architecture? Let me know k. You can get the 1% Engineer Kit (several ebooks) here eepurl.com/cCh1jn and access to the 1% FB group here facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/
Jake Voorhees thanks for responding! And yes I like drawing, design. And I'm bad at math. and haven't tried coding yet. Hobbies? I like to play video games, read, and in free time I draw. I play this game called sims and it's where you make people and you can design their homes.
Hey SlimsyCash, Happy Thanksgiving. If you like to draw, design, etc but you don't like math, you are probably an architecture type :) maybe architectural engineering is something to look at too. I've been meaning to do that video, architecture vs arch engineering. Check it out. Def join the FB group so we can ask the tribe a little more about it! Cheers!
These videos help me so much man I really appreciate them. You’re videos are so informative and useful for any level of engineering, whether you’re a high school senior, college student, or anywhere post grad I can only imagine how many people you’ve help with all of these videos
Thank you so much I really appreciate that :) that’s the whole reason for the channel. 100% right. Let me know what questions you have next and I’ll try to help. Cheers !!
Thermodynamics was so much fun... for my teacher. Really loved statics and structural analysis. Really, anything that had to do with structures. I'm a roadway civil engineer looking to maybe switch to buildings.
Phew! That's what i can say after graduating civil engineering. I never really liked math not even good at it. Actually very bad at math. What is it that i like? Biology. I wanted to be in medical field. So to anyone out there! Don't waste time chasing wrong dreams. Civil engineering is great but its for guys like him who is good at math.
I'm super creative and artistic, but I am also good at math, design and problem solving. I'm going into junior year of civil engineering currently. I didn't do architecture because my university isn't accredited for architecture, but I do love civil work. Is there a possibility I could have some position that crosses over somehow in the future?
Thank you so much❤ This cheered me up to take civil engineering, because I am really good in math but I suck in drawing haha Hope to be a civil engineer soon😀
100% thank you so much for the comment!! Yup, wrapping up the ebook over the weekend and I'll send you a copy. Let me know your email, say hi at hello@jakevoorhees.com Thanks!!!!
Hi , could I get the link for the Facebook group if there’s any and I have a problem. So I like math and I’m good at it but I also like designing and I’m more of an outside the box thinker and I would love to design my own building some day and also be involved with the construction like a civil engineering who’s also an architect but I don’t want to stay in school for like 10years!!! So is there any program that combines both right now I’m finding it hard to decide on which ones should pick
I disagree I m final year student of architecture n i have study 2 math cousrs 4 structure till yet every year a structure course along with course name material n fabrication these are basic for becoming an architect I agree we need different engg like structure like electrical for making our design work but we also do have the basic n fundamental knowledge otherwise sorry to say I have seen structure engg just saying it couldn't be possible u need support for this design n tht design is ruined by tht extra beam lastly we also mange the cost as we desing sustainably n how can i forget Zaha Hadid for being a good architect one shuld know maths n gemotry very well....My point is not compare enng n arch its just to explain it being architect. Both engg n arch work parallel so they should have a great bounding to produce somthing incredible they are nothing without each other ...love peace for engg btw my sister is civil engg..
Loved the video! Just that it the end it seemed like you are saying engineering curriculum is more difficult that architecture... Think it should be included that you can say goodbye to sleep and hygiene if you choose architecture
Thanks!! You must be an architecture student or architect huh? Yeah, I jokingly am encouraging engineering, because that's my target audience. I'm not necessarily saying engineering is more difficult, that's subject to opinion based on where someone went to engineering school vs other architecture schools, etc. I'd love to hear more of your views on this? Thanks!
Heyyy The Engineer Mollucas, thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah I"m a proud civil too. Let me know where you are on your engineering journey right now, what questions you have, and how I can help. I can potentially make a video for you. I am Going to be both, but a little bit more towards architecture. I would love to show my designs to an engineer , and see what he would think about them. They require a lot of stability.
I'm a structural engineer, and I am proud of it XD, but let me tell you something, sometimes is really really hard to make possible architects ideas, they think that everything can FLY !!!!
@@engineerplays4324 OK ENGINEER! DESIGN ME A MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING COMPLEX WITH AN APPROACH THAT RELATES THE BUILDING TO ITS ENVIRONMENT.. LET'S SEE HOW ENGINEERS DO WITHOUT ARCHITECTS
What if i'm not that good in mathematics but i'm willing to learn and study hard just to be a civil engineering will that work? Or should i shift to another course?
What if I LOVE math but I’m also extremely interested in the creativity and design aspect of architecture? My current school only has a civil engineering major and I like the school so I don’t know if I want to transfer to be an architect ... but then I wonder if I’m giving up the right career for me just for the simplicity of not having to transfer
Must be for 9 graders because...who actually thinks civil engineer and architecture is the same field?. One builds ugly roads and and the technical guts of infrastructure, and one design buildings using but just just use engineering technical knowledge to design the technical aspects of the building
Hey Zoch, I'm really glad you understand the difference, but as you can see with 33,600 views, this is a very misunderstood comparison for people choosing a major :) engineers do far more than "ugly roads" that you drive on everyday by the way lol. Society needs engineers, it's mandatory that we facilitate our world.
in welding and like structural stuff. been looking for structural welding engineer degrees is it just majoring in just structural engineering emphasizing on welding. any tips
I literally have the traits of an architect hahaha. I am more an artsy. I can do math but not that good, I love science especially earth science but I hate physics lol. I'm actually pursuing architecture in college. Thanks for the vid.
Heyyy Jasmin, I'm glad this video helped you :) it feels good to know you're on the right path right? I'd like to offer you The 1% Engineer Kit, which is a bunch of ebooks and resume templates to help you eepurl.com/cCh1jn Cheers!
I took ABM strand during my senior high school days. Now I'm going to college and I realize I'm more into designs and structure. Now I'm really confused if I should pursue Accountancy or courses related to designs and structures. Do you think I should choose Civil Engineering or Architecture? I'm not good in math but I like art.
Architecture dreams Civil make it reality.... Civil is an architecture who didn’t find time to study fancy subjects... No math no comparing architectural studies just a high level of art that involved in space visualization but engineering in which without them science is just a theory
I’m torn between the two. I’m two years into Architecture but I’ve been out of school for a few years because of finances. Just joined the army and now I’m ready to continue, but now I’m second guessing myself. I like math and chemistry but I don’t know if I love it enough to drop progress I made in my undergrad. Can you really visit firms as a civilian to get a feel for the work environment?
i like mater of the fact that you tried to make it as fair as possible for both subjects ............ am an architecture student my self and things that you described are things that we commonly do. so thats awesome
yeah thank you. i think i didnt give architecture a fair shake, and was biased towards, "engineering being better", so i need to do a version 2.0 of this video. thank you!
Heyy Acid, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! That's great that you found which one is for you. What school are you going to? How far along are you? Let me know if you have any questions or need any help, cheers!

Aesthetic sense can be develop but engineering aspects can't be develop without education so engineers with good aesthetic sense can work like an architect as architects can't work like engineers technically and practically
Hi there I'm studying civil engineering at UBC right now. Was wondering is the market for civil engineers good in Vancouver and if so what's the average salary? Thanks
I actually lived in Vancouver for 4 years while working as a civil engineer. I loved it. I worked on bridge projects in the lower mainland, Kelowna, etc. there will always be a need for civil engineeeiky

What questions do you have about your future engineering related career? Ask away, and I can make a video for you :) Thanks!
Textile enginnerring ,how can i continue and pursue my career here ia Usa
Alright.. I have a question
I live in nj
I wanna b an architect and an architectural engineer
In nj no schools offer architectural engineering majors
I cant go out of state that's not an option
Njit offers architecture as a major
Also civil engineering
I was thinking doing both majors could land me experience i both areas.. Thats were the double degree comes in
They offer civil and architecture which can b done in 6 yrs
So my questions:
Do u think the double degree is appropriate to persue both careers?
Is civil engineering the best alternative for a major in architectural engineering, if not what?
Do u think i should specialize in an area in civil, such as structural or industrial?
Or maybe scrap engineering all together and just do architecture in 5yrs which i would hate to do😞
I wanna do both jobs
But if i would have to choose 1.. I would choose architecture
I look forward to your quick reply
Thanks
Hey!
Well, somehow realizing a building into reality from a drawing is more accurate i guess
I'm stuyding building engineering. About to finish my 2nd semester. Both civil engineering and architecture are taught side by side here
In my country, you have the following courses: civil engineer, architecture and a civil-engineer-architecture.
Architecture student here. Get used to an average of 3 hours of sleep.
After speaking to many students, I've realized that a large majority of engineering students are in it due to financial stability in the future, as opposed to architecture students who are simply passionate about what they are doing.
is Architecture considered engineering?
i do agree with you , when we architecture students are working sleepless nights .civil students are having sleepless nights on counter strike
Architect's approach design with lots of logic. Aesthetics are vital but that isn't even a quarter of the work
So architecture just doesn't deal with the aesthetics.
exactly what I've been thinking, civil eng dont have to consider heat energy save, sun light, wind direction, etc.
Do have a book for that theory? I want to read it to
WHAT DO I DO IF I LOVE MATH, DESIGN, AND ART EQUALLY?!
Yeah,we have the same problem
Literally architecture
Then you should take that 2 programs in ten years 😊😊
Sounds like an architect to me. Remember pursue your interests and work really hard. Everything else will fall in place.
SAME BRO. But what's funny is I'm actually taking accountancy right now lmao. Gonna shift next sem tho but I'm torn between CE or Archi 🤯
I'm an architecture student 1st year 😁
We do learn about structures.. Tensions compression, physics, load path
Obviously not extreme like you guys
At the end of the day
Neither side can have a completed perfect building if we don't work together 🙃🙃 kudos m8 hehe
100% on that. When I did this simple episode 020 of what is now 084 episodes, i never predicted that this video would rise to #2. If so, I would have never made a joke or two about architects / architecture, bc I do respect it very much. You're right, we absolutely need one another :)
Let me know if you have any questions or need any help with anything okay?

Seems like you’re in a great situation :) what are you trying to figure out next ? Thank you!!
Jake Voorhees well I just finished my second year of drafting, I’ve had all A’s so far which is good. I’m planning on going to LSU which has a great design school and obtaining my bachelors degree. I hope I do great
what did you end up doing?
I couldn’t decide between the two.. so doing double major :)
Wow crazy JB! Thanks for watching and for posting! Appreciate that. Let me know what other questions you have, and I can make you a video on that. I have 250+ engineers and some architects in a FB group if you wanna discuss any topics in those sphere's. Here it is facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/ and if you want The 1% Engineer kit, a bunch of ebooks, you can get that here eepurl.com/cCh1jn cheers!
what do you mean?
настя корн I had a professor in college that pursued Architecture after Civil Engineering and Master Plumber and she's now on her early 30s. She's a monster.
0.o OMG I wouldn't survive)))
JB how does that work? I’m considering doing both because I like designing but also doing the physical work of building it. What job would u go Into to mesh both of them?
Architects and Civil Engineers are like husband and wife together bringing up a beautiful and stable Creation. So lets together make more stable and aesthetic wonders :). I myself an Architect here.
Don't forget that family quarrel exists
Civil engineer
Awww that’s so sweet :)
I’m on my second semester in college and I love being in my architecture classes ❤️❤️❤️ Nice Video 👍🏽‼️
I'm 25% through now
How's it going so far, and are the dozens of sleepless nights at the end worth it?
I'm stuck between the two and I'm starting college in just a couple of months
Im still in high school, but i would personally go for architecture, and possibly take a minor in civil engineering.
I made a video comparing the 2 on my channel, pick Architecture if you enjoy drawing and planning it from a big picture perspective, and engineering if you prefer doing pure number based calculations and being pretty detailed, it's pretty different.
omg same
drop a coin, and fucking go for whatever side it falls on
Same lol
Civil Engineering we make architect's design SAFE.

Heyyy super noodles, thanks for watching and commenting! Congrats on starting your architecture journey! What other questions / struggles / issues do you have? Let me know, and I can help you out w those! Cheers! -Jake
Jake Voorhees vanishing point drawings are a pain :') any tips to make it easier

Architects and civil engineers = ying and yang, by themselves they are strong, together they are unstoppable.
Underrated.
Really engineers get the building from the architect's brain to the ground we all stand on
@Blue eyed Eurasian biggest trash I ever heard. Architects can calculate alone, they dont need an servant for that
So in all how long does it take to finish schooling for civil engineering?
Very true
I have studied Architecture: specialised in construction + law and economics. It was only like 25% architecture, 50% engineering and 25% law.
Thanks Jake!.. I'm inspired by your videos, that's why I'll pursue to my dream course as a civil engineer.
Thanks! Now I'm sure to pursue my dream to be a civil engineer.
That is great! Let me know what other questions you have okay?
This field looks so interesting! Can’t wait to learn it in the future
I would love to fuse the 2 with 3-dprinting the design part of architecture & with the construction of engineering!
What to do if you love calculations, draw, think creatively ...cant one do both the course?
Sure I think the right combination is undergrad in civil and then masters in architecture or architectural engineering if you really need it and love that lane enough. Architecture alone is risky I think. Bureau of labor statistics shows 133,000 architecture jobs vs 327,000 civil engineering
Excellent breakdown, is it possible to double major in both?
Update?
@@jiselle9664 omg yasss we really need it!s
... What if I kinda suck at both?
I seriously suck at being creative, and I'm not that good with numbers (even though I like them better honestly) any advice...?
Go work before going to college and learn more about you :)
Thank you!🙏🙏
Hey I’m currently in high school and I want to know what was your starting salary as an civil engineer. And what level degree do you have?
heyya !!! a law student here! 😂😂 I don't know what I'm doing here?
how many types of civil engineers r there and what is the salary
There are 5-6 different types of civils. Structures, transportation, environmental, coastal, water resources, and geotech. Salary depends where you are, but in the US, its $50-55k starting salary which is above most majors, but on the lower end for engineering. However, all engineering is higher than lots of other majors :) You can get the 1% Engineer kit here if you want eepurl.com/cCh1jn

I want to to be creative but still do math since I love it. (You know what I mean) is there a major with a mixture of both
+Junior Quinones hey Junior thanks for watching and commenting. you can still be creative within engineering. In fact, most engineers lack some creativity so you will stand out and be a better engineer if you are creative :)
Architectural Engineering is a major I believe. I have no idea what’s it’s about tho LOL, you should do some research on it
Architects use math my man. It is a mixture of science, art, and math. Engineers focus on solving a problem and understanding how things work. I have friends who are architects who are brilliant. Choose a field where your interests lie. Just remember , no matter what field you choose, you better get good at it if you want to be part of the engineering community or architect community.

Architecture ❤️❤️
I'm super creative and artistic, but I am also good at math, design and problem solving. I'm going into junior year of civil engineering currently. I didn't do architecture because my university isn't accredited for architecture, but I do love civil work. Is there a possibility I could have some position that crosses over somehow in the future?
On structural computations, what softwares do you use?
Thank you so much❤ This cheered me up to take civil engineering, because I am really good in math but I suck in drawing haha Hope to be a civil engineer soon😀
Noreen Abocejo nice !!! What else are you trying to figure out right now ?
@@JakeVoorhees for now, none. But maybe someday, I can go back to your channel if I have questions or problems😀 thank you again❤
Great that’s fantastic. Yes please do ask me whatever questions you have okay? Good luck !!
Civil Engineering for the win ! oh yeah i'd love to get the ebook though :)
100% thank you so much for the comment!! Yup, wrapping up the ebook over the weekend and I'll send you a copy. Let me know your email, say hi at hello@jakevoorhees.com Thanks!!!!

Awesome thank you! Let me know what other questions you have k!

Hello, Oompa Loompas of science!"
@@lolollolol5654 no idea what you’re talking about.. but thanks for the comment tho! Happy to find this channel once again :)
I’m going to college in 3 months and pursuing civil engineering, this helps a lot.
They very by country. Your country could have more of a technical emphasis. I agree with you, they are parallel and need each other. Thank you
Loved the video!
Thanks!
Very 👍true
What if you like calculations in Physics and chemistry but don't particularly like math
is it still a good idea to do Engineering based majors
What I would like to know is is the the Slide Rule still being used?
I'm proud become a civil engieer...
Heyyy The Engineer Mollucas, thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah I"m a proud civil too. Let me know where you are on your engineering journey right now, what questions you have, and how I can help. I can potentially make a video for you. If you'd like The 1% Engineer kit, which is a bunch of ebooks and resume templates, you can get that here eepurl.com/cCh1jn Also, to join the 1% FB group, the link is here facebook.com/groups/1percentengineer/ cheers!
I am Going to be both, but a little bit more towards architecture. I would love to show my designs to an engineer , and see what he would think about them. They require a lot of stability.
+Jake Voorhees Hi
How much is your salary?
I'm a structural engineer, and I am proud of it XD, but let me tell you something, sometimes is really really hard to make possible architects ideas, they think that everything can FLY !!!!
Then you should know that our designs are based on client request. Buildings cant fly, tell that to the client.
and that is very true
And because of this thought of architects, engineering is in this level today
Because they are just good on imaginations while engineers deals with reality.
I just wanna be an Architect because i wanna add the word ''Architect'' in my name. its cool
Engineer sounds cooler. Civil engineer... oof! Even better.
I want to add Professional Engineer or P.E. to my name
@@sesamesyrup7806 do you really think architect don't do math? Bruh 💀 goodluck on 1-2 hours of sleep and mastering the software's.
Don't go to architecture school just because it sounds cool. Go for it if you have passion for design and logical thinking.
Hello

in welding and like structural stuff. been looking for structural welding engineer degrees is it just majoring in just structural engineering emphasizing on welding. any tips
Best video I found so far! Liked!
"Architects...
Engineers who can't do math"
That's why we hire engineers to do the work for us ;)
Just a RUclipsr HAHAHAHAAHAHA. Legit
But we can design too by ourselves
Or artists than can do math?
You what
could be the way! lol
I'm not good in math but I like art.
that last sentence says it all. if you believe you're more of a artistic creative person, then certainly architecture is the way for you!
Thanks for the points, I will definitely get Architecture 😁
Architecture dreams
Civil make it reality....
Civil is an architecture who didn’t find time to study fancy subjects...
No math no comparing architectural studies just a high level of art that involved in space visualization but engineering in which without them science is just a theory
Haha thanks for this! Let me knwo if you have any questions k and I can help you out, cheers!
okay dude!! What ever makes you feel better.

_How many civil engrs are here_
I’m torn between the two.
Hey..I'm planning to be an architectural engineer...can u plz guide me
And one more thing which one is paid more?

Imagine the World without Architects.
Christian Maravilla Then we'll have a world full of Brutalism...Concrete everywhere
We'd all be living under rocks then
A flat land with bricks n cement lying around
Then you have to Imagine the world without beauty 😉
how to improve quickly in math and physics for engineering?
i like mater of the fact that you tried to make it as fair as possible for both subjects ............ am an architecture student my self and things that you described are things that we commonly do. so thats awesome
yeah thank you. i think i didnt give architecture a fair shake, and was biased towards, "engineering being better", so i need to do a version 2.0 of this video. thank you!
Architecture for me
Heyy Acid, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment! That's great that you found which one is for you. What school are you going to? How far along are you? Let me know if you have any questions or need any help, cheers!
Thanks!

Aesthetic sense can be develop but engineering aspects can't be develop without education so engineers with good aesthetic sense can work like an architect as architects can't work like engineers technically and practically
Thank you this is pretty much 100% what r u up to nowadays ?

Hi there I'm studying civil engineering at UBC right now. Was wondering is the market for civil engineers good in Vancouver and if so what's the average salary? Thanks
I actually lived in Vancouver for 4 years while working as a civil engineer. I loved it. I worked on bridge projects in the lower mainland, Kelowna, etc. there will always be a need for civil engineeeiky
