I remember listening to this a lot as a kid riding in the Datsun P.U. truck in the early 1980s as a little kid with my dad. Missing my dad. He passed not long ago. Songs have memories recorded in them. I can't wait to see my dad again. He was worshipping God with his eyes shut and peaceful smile singing Christian hymms last time I saw him alive. Didn't know that would be the last time.
It was in 1977 and my crush went on stage to sing this very song on a talent show at John Burrough Jr. High School in Los Angeles. I was a stage crew on the balcony working the lights looking down at her singing this tune. My heart still aches thinking about those times. Shanna Cunningham is forever in my heart.
This beautiful musical poetry was listened to by my parents in the 70's, both already deceased, my father died after the pandemic in a nursing home from bilateral pneumonia without being able to see him and say goodbye to him for 10 months, in moments of depression and sadness I listen to this song remembering those happy years..
Beautiful song and a beautiful woman singing it! Her Cherokee heritage really shows n this video. This reminds me of being a kid in the 70’s. Miss the those days! We will never get the back 😕

Getting into dad's car at some point in the late 70s, on a cold early morning, with mom and dad and my younger brother, Pete, and driving away from Birmingham England to our holiday location. Hearing this song on the car radio ❤
I remember this song from middle school dances. There was a jukebox full of 45s, it was mid 70s, Friday night school dances in the gymnasium. Boys were on one side of the gym, girls on the other side. I was in 6th grade and had a huge crush on an 8th grader. I walked slowly across the gym , terrified inside, and asked the girl if she wanted to dance. She said yes. This song came on and created a wonderful memory.

Hands down the most beautiful and classy woman that has ever graced the annals of modern American music. Utterly and unspeakably attractive. "Da morire", as the Italians would say. Watching her sing brings spontaneously these verses by Lord Byron in mind: "And on that cheek, and o’er that brow / So soft, so calm, yet eloquent / The smiles that win, the tints that glow / But tell of days in goodness spent / A mind at peace with all below / A heart whose love is innocent." How Kristofferson could muster the unfathomable stupidity of letting her go (or was it the other way round?) will remain one of the great mysteries of the 20th century.
