- Because I love you people, here it is. The music that plays while outside the Battle Tower.
Okay, there seems to be a little debate as to who copied who in regards to this theme. I can't believe I even have to point this out but:
Pokemon Crystal release date (US): July 29, 2001
Pokemon Emerald release date (US): April 30, 2005
Now how could Crystal have possibly copied Emerald?

I used to get so thrashed in this in my first years playing Pokemon Crystal with my Game Boy Color, I was so little. Besides, to make matters worse you can get there with only 4 badges, you are putting your Croconaw against things like Dragonite, Tyranitar and Scizor. Anyway, time went on, many years after I stopped playing Crystal I decided to have a rematch with this helluva tower. By that time, I was familiar with strategies by looking at competitive websites such as Serebii (and later Smogon). I trained a team consisting of Jolteon (with Mint Berry, Agility, Baton Pass, Thunder Wave, Thunderbolt), Marowak (with Thick Club, Swords Dance, Bonemerang, Rock Slide, Body Slam) and Snorlax (with Leftovers, Curse, Return, Shadow Ball, Fire Blast). Thus, 8 years after I started playing Pokemon Crystal, I finally conquered the Battle Tower.
Same here bro, vintage Pokemon games are extremely irreplaceable. Such great memories. I played crystal at age 4. I still play Pokemon. People can knock it all they want. The maker of pocket monsters was autistic.

I glad to read the comments, so I have confirm that this battle tower was not only MY problem. I couldn't win even a single battle here, it was so extremely hard!
Some other people didn't even know that it had Kanto region back in the day.
In some cases, not even type matchups could save you. You better be able to hold your own in the competitive community for those higher levels.
As a 9 year old kid, this was absolutely impossible to beat :D
Harder than the Battle Frontier, at least this version was.
I hate the battle tower. I never found an advantage to take on against their Pokemon.

It's nice to know that they're using this for all the Battle Tower/Frontier themes in recent games: Battle Tower, Battle Frontier and Battle Subway.

You had a level 5 Aerodactyl with Dragon Rage
OR
You had Tyranitar and/or Dragonite in your party
The only way I could beat this place was by trading over my level 100s from Pokemon Blue and even then I only just made it. Lovely theme, but it really masks the true difficulty of this place. The rewards for defeating it weren't worth the effort either.
Yeah, I only won 7 battles in a row once, got 5 HP Up's for my trouble. A swift punch in the balls would've been better, and less painful.
Ahhh the battle tower. I remember the first time I played crystal and went here I was like I'mma woop everyone's ass in here! Boy was I wrong! The battle tower gave me a reason to be a competitive battler. I even remember the first battle I ever had in the tower. Level 40 floor and the AI had a Hypno and Starmie which destroyed my Typhlosion, Electabuzz and Pidgeot. Never even got to its third mon. Now in X and Y thanks to EV training and IV breeding I woop everyone's ass in the battle maison! I'm currently at a 139 win streak lol
I remember how wrong I was too. I'm in the same position as you, 2nd gen battle tower then 3rd gen (pkmn Ruby) battle tower and now the battle maison is just stupidly easy. They DID drop the intensity of the Hax in gen 6 though. Plus being able to pace oneself between battles is so comfy.
Here is to good (..and frustrating) times in previous generation battle facilities!!!
I just wanted to explore it. I thought it would be like the battle tents in pokemon Emerald. Boy was I wrong. I couldn't beat anyone and the level system is so messed up I don't even go back there

I really liked that music. When I got my GBA SP it would play game boy color music really loud and I would play this at full volume.

yeh i have actually passed quite a few times. way back in 2002-2003 when i remember playing it, i had a dragonite (for pure strength), aerodactyl for speed, and then some 3rd pokemon (i think a steel type, or dark, not sure) and all of them were buff - as in they had plenty of those power up things like HP up, calcium, carbos etc. and if you can cover all types (ice, fire, dragon) you can win relatively easily but going for weaknesses is NECESSARY in this. but still..yeh very hard i remember it.
@Iinneus The first Battle Tower was programmed to make you lose.
Don't underestimate the mons - every mon has maxed out EVs (DVs in the game). And the thing is you can max out every single EV in Gen 1-2. So you'll be dealing with mons that just seem so bulky. Like wondering how does Dugtrio live that Surf when it has awful defences

Now that I've done my research, I know that places like the battle tower are only to be challenged if you have EV trained pokemon or whatever they were called in Gen. 2. With that said, HOW THE HELL WOULD GAMEFREAK EXPECT A BUNCH OF KIDS TO UNDERSTAND SOMETHING SO COMPLICATED AND WRONG?!?!

This place is a real difficulty spike so early on in the games. Not even Red's team in the final battle atop Mt.Silver had this level of difficulty.
Because in all technicality, it's postgame. It unlocks during the game, but you're meant to have a really tight, high-level, well-made team to challenge it.

Ah the nostalgia T_T I miss this.
i always thought this was an awesome theme
some kids grew out to win 7 battles in a row and glad themselves at winning 5 Carbos. Some kids grew out to win 1 battle and glad themselves at just managing to win at least 1 battle in that hellish tower. But for most kids, they grew out without ever winning anything in the Battle Tower, forever remembering it as a place of suffering, broken dreams and Pokeasses wiped.
Then after playing through games like X and Y and getting the idea of IV breeding and EV training I came back to the crystal battle tower thanks to the 3DS VC with perfect DVs (different for Crystal) and IVs and destroyed all the floors of the tower easily with my fun creative teams then moved onto the other games leaving this battle tower in nothing but ashes from my reign of destruction. Revenge never felt so sweet.
Happened to me too, I borrowed my cousin's Silver version and I played it all the way to Mount Silver but then he wanted it back but rather than battling Red with the awesome team I trained, he restarted the game right before my eyes as if to mock me.

IDK. Emerald was pretty fun IMO. But then again, I got up to Victory Road in Crystal, and then my friend took the game back. So I never got to finish it.
This song gives me a bigger "You're f***'d" feeling than any other musical piece ever written in the history of man.
Unless there's a song called 'You're f***'d" consisting of those two words, but this still gets second.

Silver was my first pokemon game and my favorite of all of them, but i'll get the remake too just so i can relive the game with the newer technology

Quite honestly, the Battle Frontier/Tower is much harder than the Pokemon Leagues.

Crystal's was remixed for Ruby and Sapphire. Emerald's's Battle Tower was a remix of the remix in Ruby and Sapphire.
Then Diamond and Pearl remixed Ruby and Sapphire's in to the one at the Battle Area.

pokemon will never 'expand and get better', not for a long time at least. It's still a multi-billion dollar franchise. It's worth something like 46 billion IIRC.
