I barely remembered this point in history being taught in school, or breezed over really. I was reminded due to the Bobby Kennedy documentary that just came out. Miss Malone was such a brave soul, as was James Hood. I'm glad that Bobby stood behind them for this. I hope we can all stand together as strongly today, as people, against racial problems of all sorts. God Bless the pioneers of freedom and equality.
After reading Attorney General Eric Holder's speech at today's NAACP national gathering and noting his mention of his sister-in-law Vivian Malone Jones, I began to reminisce of her grace, poise, and courage in 1963 and how proud I was to be of her generation and a part of the Civil Rights Movement. My hope is that young people will find this YT posting and realize the importance of remaining vigilant so we never return to the way things were.
Whatever liberties we have today, it is because brave outstanding people like Vivian Malone paved the way. We can't fathom what it must have been like to endure the nasty verbal abuse from the racist individuals who didn't want her there. I salute Miss Malone for her stand, her bravery and her commitment towards the movement...
I must give this freedom fighter a lot of credit, I don't think it would have been in my DNA to tolerate such abuse. I'm from the school of 'Do for Self' and open up your own schools. Integrate the resources for equity, not the people. Never spend your money where you are disrespected!
What type of "people" would be so intimidated from anyone trying to get and education? And people have a problem with affirmative action. These southern bigots have been the true one to receive "preferential" treatment. This proud, beautiful, elegant, and regal lady died much too soon.
She was gorgeous! Thank for for your bravery!
So fine! 😍😍😍
Vivian Malone you are a brave lady RIP.
