    Funny for years I regarded at AH as a sort of also ran, but these days it's my dream car. The featured vehicle is a seriously beautiful example. An absolute stunner of a car. Thanks so much for posting and long may she run.

    Nice to see someone who knows how to drive one of these old Healeys. Pity that it had to be turned into a restomod but it still sounds authentic

      Bose de-Nage, thanks for the comment. The "authentic" sound is a natural since it is still very much an Austin Healey 6 cylinder 3 liter engine. While it does fall under the general heading of "restomod" I like to think of it as an evolution of the original Works car. While I know many people only revere AH's that are completely original... friends of mine that have had conversations with both Donald and Jeff Healey, reported that they both were very much into modified Healey's. They considered a stock Healey a good place to start. They had to make compromises in the manufacturing of the Healey because of cost issues, so it wasn't all they would like it to have been. That said, to me, the styling is iconic and still looks outstanding today.

    Lovely car and video Steve. I hope another enthusiast stateside snaps it up and samples
    what was for a few glorious years, 'the biggest gun on the field' in European rallying.

      +Timo Makinen Is this really THE Timo Makinen? I've read all the historic international rally stuff I can find and the name Timo Makinen is a huge part of that big Healey history... and, of course, the subsequent Mini successes. So, is this really the original Timo? In any case, thanks for the feedback! Steve

    I do understand what you say. I had a Mk1 in the day and had had the offer of a Mk2 but the triple carbs put me off as they were supposed to be difficult to balance. Anyhow well done with your example .

    I much prefer the last of the big Healeys - the BJ8 Series 111 phase 111 . I know I have had mine since new and undergone two upgrades. The last one was a huge and major upgrade with an all new paint work called Colorado Red with thick plush grey carpets, and grey seats with red piping aournd the the edges.

      I understand that each Healey enthusiast has his or her favorite. I prefer the BJ7's with the old roadster style dash, much cleaner to my eye than the later BJ8 version. Many people prefer the simplicity of the side curtain models, but I do enjoy having rollup windows as on the BJ7's and 8's.! I recently bought another BJ7 for my next project... yes, roadster style dash and rollup windows... perfect combination for me. In the end, it's the classic lines of the Austin Healey that win the day.

      Yes the styling of the Healey is one you never get tired of looking at. One of the most beautiful sports cars ever made. I have never had the opportunity to drive the earler models, so I have to confess I am horribly biased to the Mk111 Phase 111, especially since I have owned it from brand new.

      Steinwaygrande Sweet ride.
      ! My first car was a 1961 3000 . Honduras maroon with a single driver side chrome roll bar. Sold in 67 regretted it almost immediately, tried to buy it back - too Kate the yokel wrecked it racing a Norton motor cycle sigh.

    Great looking car but as to be regarded as a tribute car as upgrades dilute the originality and I am not sure about those wheels .

    • @tricarbproductions8463
      @tricarbproductions8463 4 года назад

      Brian, Minilite wheels are period correct... yes, the Works only used wires in '63. I would also point out that I call this a "tribute" car.... not a "replica". Typcally a "tribute" car has incorporated the design ques of the original but a "replica" is attempting to duplicate the original. I hid the upgrades as much as possible... in fact, many "originality preferring" Healey owners didn't even notice the upgrades until they were pointed out. I even had one gentleman argue with me that the car was obviously not fuel injected since he could see the carburators! I let him believe whatever he wanted. That said, if you want to actually put some serious miles on an old car, those upgrades are greatly apprecated. If you are a originality fan, then this isn't the car for you. The car was sold about 3 years ago and now resides in Australia. It has toured on 3 continents and over a dozen countries.

      David B,Yes, the car is in Colorado but I do have an advertisement in Octane for my European friends. Ads also on-line in Hemmings and Classic & Sports Cars.

    fake Rallye Healey

    • @tricarbproductions8463
      @tricarbproductions8463 3 года назад +1

      Yes absolutely... so are you saying that's a bad thing or a good thing? A real one cost at least 5 as much so you probably keep it under lock-and-key... to say nothing about the real one being a rough and ready race car that your wife probably won't want to spend a few days touring. The new owner has had this car on 3 continents and over 12 countries, with his his wife. I'd call that a win. If you buy a "real" Rallye Healey please share a RUclips of it, I'm a fan of the real one's too.

      @@tricarbproductions8463 by making a look alike works you lowered the value of your car and you did not achieve anything with your fake works. So you lost both ways. It is your money and I dont think you will find a market for this kind of modification. I have a BJ7 and I would NEVER to that to her. Your door gaps are faultless and I am very peculiar about them since most cars have horrible gaps done by so called experts in restoration. Check if they are not plastered with filler by buying a Bondo detector (thickness sensor) , American should never have the right to own these cars.

      @@bernardmauge6628 Well, Bernard I'm afraid you'd be wrong. The car is a joy to drive and brought top dollar when it was sold. The fact that you wouldn't do it is fine. I like originals too. Yes, the door gaps are perfect and it was all metal done by extreme metal craftsman... I have dozens of pictures of it in pristine bare metal to confirm that claim. Many "so called experts" aren't particularly good at delivering on their claims. I must say, your "American should never have the right to own these cars" gave me quiet a smile. I'm not sure where you live but I've seen many modified Healey's in the UK and AU... you must not live in either of those places. By the way, Donald Healey always said he was fine with modified Healey's ... in fact he usually drove one. He said, he thought the factory version was a good starting point.

      @@tricarbproductions8463 Anyone who ever owned a Big Healey, never forgets the experience!..I was 21 years old, when I purchased a 1959 AH 100-6...that was way back in 1968. Over 50 years later, I still regret selling it...and to a ditzy Airline Stewardess, who sent me a postcard a few months later, admitting that she ran that beauty over a large rock, and the engine oil spilled out while she kept on driving, ruining the engine!...So she took it to the scrap-yard!!! Arghhh!!
