Malioboro by UKJGS UGM | Performance at Ensemble of Gamelan Festival, UTP, Malaysia

This piece titled “Malioboro” depicted the ambience of Yogyakarta, building Indonesian nationality within Malioboro. Malioboro never fails to give the good memories of diversity and stages it as “house of humanity”. Dare to be called as “Little Indonesia”, every single little things in Malioboro is a symbol of how colorful and lively Indonesia is. People from accross the country are witness of how there is no difference between day and night as long as Malioboro is alive. As old as Malioboro, karawitan is also the beating heart of Yogyakarta. Through the eyes and ears of karawitan, we are attempting to conserve the beauty of Malioboro within a collaborative effort of structures, tones, instruments, and styles. Like an orchestra or concert, karawitan has a magnificent euphoria, delivered by the fast play of “balungan”, the pattern of “bonang”, “kempul”, “kendang”, vocal and others. This piece is a new form that collaborate modern style of Javanese performing arts. It is to humbly show that Malioboro is everlasting, and it inspires artists to create.
