Hi there, I’ve started cooking almost exclusively with cast iron. I really enjoy your videos too. Lots of great ideas and recipes. So way up here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada your videos are a hit! Thanks from Earl B.
Love the potato tip for making the cast iron nonstick!!! Thank you!!!!
I have just inherited my moms cast irons. I have bin cleaning them slowly doing two or three at a time. And everyone that I have cleaned has taken me back in time with my mom. My mom did the cooking In my family and every one loved the way she would cook it . My thing is I’m just starting to learn how to do this kind of cooking. I have just started seeing your channel and I’m learn. Thank you.
Welcome. We have MUCH more over on our channel page.
Patato - Pototo..... What a great trick. Tried it and it works. Used an old patato that my wife wanted tossed out, may not of ate it but sure did use it..... Thanks
Really like the even browning on your pancakes
Breakfast of Champions breakfast on the grill !
I will definitely be trying that potato trick. Some of the ladies at work were talking about their propane griddles that they have. Theirs stand tall and large like my gas grill. I don't want one like theirs , because i can put my cast iron griddle on my grill and get the same result, and most especially. I can take my griddle camping. So, I'm watching videos on how to cook on a griddle. Thanks for the tip.
I LOVE the potato 🥔 trick! Thanks so much for sharing it with us! ❤️❤️❤️
Looking forward to doing the same thing with my lodge griddle I just purchased. You did an awesome job showing how well the griddle works plus using the half of potato to help with the non sticking for the eggs and pancakes. Very informative video!!!
So because I am in NY and home 24/7 because of the coronavirus, I have been watching your videos for 2 days now and I really enjoy your cooking. I will be binge-watching for a few more days.
Having graduated from Culinary school back in 1989 and being in the business for over 30 years, I like your videos. I also just bought a Lodge Sportsman Grill last week and have a flat griddle to use on top of it. Keep up the good work and thanks for your simple approach to good food and cast iron cookware!
Thanks for watching and check out the channel page for more content with cast iron.
I have used a potato and salt to clean cast iron cooking pans. Will try the cooking idea. Thanks
Like the way you show how to cook in a Dutch Oven and the griddle, cleaning the griddle is a new way to do it for me. Thanks..
Lordy, 'Wood! That looks AWESOME! My Cherokee Grandmother taught me that potato trick waaay back in the 70's. Great to share knowledge with the younguns, though.
Seniors love to cook for life in cast iron. Tradition is awesome and so is cast iron just like Grandma & Grandpa!
I'm new to cooking with cast iron and Dutch ovens ,I enjoy all your videos thank you for talking the time to make them. God bless you and your loved ones
Nice touch about the heat displacement on the grill. I never knew sliding right or left would change the heat side. Thanks!

Alabama here! New to cast iron cooking. Thanks for your tips and building my confidence! The potato rub will save a lot of sticking! Now I have to learn how to stop smoking up the house! I believe slow and steady heat will be the answer! 😊
Awesome breakfast! Idk why so many are afraid of cast iron. From the house to the campground I'll have charcoal and cast iron!
I always do same thing with the egg yolk, move it to the center close to the other. 👍
It was reply educational the way you go about preparing on the grill cast pan. I always a big fan of grill food as I always want to look healthy. Well done for your demonstration. It was really mind blowing. I always like to watch your video. Thank you so much. Much appreciated.
Fried a couple tenderloin steaks in my Gris #6 last night but waited to clean until after the pan cooled , steaks were excellent with good flavor . Thanks for the reply!
Awesome looking breakfast ! Thanks !
I’m new to cast iron cooking. After watching your videos I can’t wait for summer and to start cooking on the cast iron outside.
I never would have guessed your trick with the half potato. That is ingenious!!!
Good cooking.

Breakfast fit for a king
Thanks for the potatoe non stick trick. I’ll try it
You are so right about the heat. Sand, brush, whatever, you heat that griddle up to 300 - 400 deg or more, you don't have to worry about sanitation, that's for sure!
Great tips on the potatoe for non stick and cast iron clean up! When my kids were in boy scouts we used those exact methods.
excellent trick with the potatoe... I have to try that with my stainless steel pan also.....
Gravy Dawg look at all the cast iron pans on the wall...so cool!!
Thank you. You have definitely helped me with my cast iron cooking. Awesome about the potato trick
Love your Lodge cast iron videos even though i don't eat much of what you grill. Keep them coming.
Looks pretty dang good!💪
Love my Lodge Grill. Use it daily for frying my eggs. You needed some taters with that breakfast. Thanks for the video and keep em coming!!!!

THXS 4 THE VIDS..ALWAYS LERNIN...
Great looking breakfast.
I tend to put the hardwood chunks around the edge , cook in the center, less flare ups, or on one end, cook on the other end if I have bigger things to cook, but do LOVE my Sportsman grill!
my mom cook on old wood stove. with old cast iron pans. the food was great
Just this week when I was cleaning my basement I found my long griddle just like the one you used on this video. It’s a Wagner with Made in USA marking. I cleaned and seasoned. I wanted to find out how this griddle can be used on a stove vertical or horizontal. I found your you tube video and saw your awesome stove/grill. Wish I had one like that. Where can I get a grill like that? For now I will be using it on the stove to fry eggs and potatoes. Thank you Backwoods Gourmet channel
You can actually buy these Sportmans Grills at Walmart or at lodgemfg.com. Thanks for watching and I would love to find an old Wagner.
Awesome!! Thanks for the tips
Those straps were done PERFECTlY!!!!!!!!
Down in Baja Mexico during a long weekend surf trip we were camping out on this dry dusty point with nobody around. To clean the pans I used seawater and a little sand from the beach then did a light rinse with a little of the meltwater from the ice keeping our beer cold then onto the fire grate to dry. Worked out fine! It was motivation to be good fishermen or we didn't eat.
I love your RUclips videos!!! I recently purchased a Lodge Sportsman Grill and after watching your videos using the Lodge Griddle I found one online and just cleaned it up and seasoned it ready for use because I just loved your cooking on the griddle.
I like the trick using the potato.
Loved watching your little chameleon or lizard on your screen behind you on our upper right LOL
Wonderful job
Great idea about using the potato for non-stick never saw it before. Two questions for you, 1. Does it hurt cast iron to use steel utensils on them I have heard different opinion’s on this. 2. Can you store your cast iron on a porch in the different temps in the northern states as long as it is seasoned well? I live in a cabin with not tons of storage space. But the porch is inclosed just not heated. And the Back straps looked so good just the way I cook them. So many people overcook their wild game and make it so tough you can’t eat it.
I like how you implement cast in all your cooking, and just use coals too with out a grill.
Have to try that potato tip!!! Thank you!!!
Neat trick there. Loving my sportsman grill with the griddle.
