Thanks so much for watching! Yes, in recent years these areas have become very popular and the trains are often very full, especially when there is snow.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad you liked the views, it's just a shame the mountains were hidden by the fog. Krkonoše are the highest Czech mountains.
Thank you for the trip report on a regional train. I like the local feel of the line and the views of the small towns. Well done as always, Pete! I always look forward to your reports.
Ahoj Pete ✋✋✋ Lower Silesia is my beloved region in Poland. Szklarska Poręba is amazing place ( not only in winter ) to relaxing. I enjoyed watching this video Super railcar and of course Railway Station in Liberec. Best wishes Pete ✋✋✋
I travelled this route from Szklarska but to Mlada Boleslav with 4 changes last summer in July ! I took the evening train to Korenov where I slept for the nigt!
Originally, I planned to transfer to Arriva train in Tanvald, but finally I continued to Liberec and then to Ústí nad Labem with Arriva and then by Rychlík Krušnohor to Prague :-D
To ano, ty vozy jsou fajn, tyhle mají navíc ještě úpravu pro silonově náročné tratě.. a dobré je že motory jsou pod kabinou strojvedoucího, takže jsou i poměrně tiché.

Thanks for the detailed descriptions. You seem to pay a lot of attention to detail. I really regret that when I was in Szklarska Poręba in the autumn I went to Liberec by car and not by train.
Ahoj, děkuji moc! Z Chebu do Hofu jsem jel před rokem, také Stadlerem RS1.. udělal jsem si okruh Praha - Hof - Regensburg - Plattling - Bayerisch Eisenstein / Železná Ruda Alžbětín - Plzeň - Praha, celkem zajímavá cesta a vlaky :-)
Thank you so much! That sounds like a good idea. I was study at the university in Liberec for 3 years, but I never had the opportunity to try the tram line Liberec - Jablonec nad Nisou.
Thanks so much! Yes, it is! One of the nicest routes I've traveled in the last year (including the Izera Railway between Jelenia Gora and Szklarska Poreba).
Pity that Liberec and Karkonosze have got such a bad connection between Liberec and Prague. If there would be a connection I would certainly travel from Gdynia this way.
Unfortunately, the train connection between Krkonoše and Liberec with Prague is very slow. Most people travel by highway, e.g. Prague - Liberec is 1 hour by bus but 2.5 hours by train.
Are these the Stadler units, which tended to break down on multiple occassions, causing service disruptions? Does anyone know, what the problem was and how did they fix it? Also, I find it so sad that Liberec still does not have a properly electrified main railway line. It is a large regional capital that has a lot to offer, but feels strangely isolated due to the lack of convenient train connection from Prague. Such an important city deserves better and it is a shame that none of the Czech governments in the last 30 years managed to solve this issue.
I think the reliability issue was related to the Stadler GTW units that were bought used. These Stadler RS1s were bought new and specially modified by producer for this line. Unfortunately, the railway network in the Liberec region requires, in addition to electrification, also track modification, which is quite demanding and expensive, so the only fast connection is the highway.
Excellent video - I wonder if you have any more info about the modifications made to the class 840 units compared to the 841 and 842 units? Everything I can find says basically the same thing as the captions in this video, they were modified for use on the cog railway but do not use the cog system. Maybe CD didn't feel the need to publish the specifics of their changes but it would be interesting to know.
Thanks so much! I have the product list for these units and really there is not much difference between the 840 and 841 units. Class 841 has 4 brake systems and class 840 has 5 brake systems, the class 840 is additionally equipped with a continuous pneumatic brake and a Voith DIWA gearbox with a built-in retarder. But the unit does not use the cog system.
Another great video Pete! A shame that we don’t have something similar here in Slovakia. It would make riding the many rural lines more enjoyable (if pared with a 011 or 012 coach at the end)
Thanks so much! I think you also have many interesting diesel units in Slovakia, for example class 861 Dunihlav.. I would like to try it sometime on the route from Čadca to Zwardoń.
To ano, ale 843 už tam nemůžou a RegioNova by to asi v zimě nevyjela :-D Ale nezlobil bych se kdyby tam jezdila lokomotiva s klasickými vozy.. ale naštěstí tu část z Jelenia Góra jel vlak TLK a ten má otvírací okna :-)
How well are train patronized in the Czech Republic? So many of your videos show empty or sparsely occupied trains and stations or do you avoid videotaping passengers?
There are various factors such as a speed of the service or cost. Usually express trains are booked well in advance and some trains with mandatory reservations are even booked out completely. Local trains are funded by their respective regions as a public services and are used mostly during peak hours for commuting. Outside of peak hours (or holidays) they run empty, yes. I assume that Pete (author) carefully chooses services that are not crowded to avoid unwanted filming of other passengers.
In the Czech Republic, the trains are full very often, but the reason why most of them are empty in my videos is that I usually travel in the opposite direction than most people travel.. for example, this train went from the mountains to the city early in the morning, but most people travel to the mountains in the morning and they return in the evening. For me it was a connection from the night train I took from Warsaw.
Paráda, a kdy? Já jel v lednu 😎
So cool that there are hourly trains to Liberec. When I was there back in 2014 the situation was different. Glad to see a improvement.
Thanks so much for watching! Yes, in recent years these areas have become very popular and the trains are often very full, especially when there is snow.
I was really impressed with the views from the train windows. Thank you for this most enjoyable video.

Yes, I have
