I’m just shuddering imagining all of that in the open ocean. Honestly an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.
Look up the continent made up of trash in the ocean
Looks more like a ton of prevention? Wonder how many tons got dumped in the river?
Очень правильные слова.
You guys are amazing 👏 keep up the great work. Thank you for helping keep the planet clean
If anyone else asks "wHy DoN't ThEy StOp iT at ThE sOuRce?" I'm gonna lose it... the Ocean Cleanup continues to do incredible work
But why don't they stop it at the source?
@@idonwantella2824Factors involved:
Lack of infrastructure in cities.
Poverty leading to lack of garbage collection.
Lack of education in the population.
Industries dumping straight into the river.
Government corruption resulting in all of the above.
@@failedfishermanBC don't forget that manufacturers keep making practically *everything* out of plastic 😞
Thanks Guatemala.
Yeah SamBro, just repeat what idontwantella said when you see that Q again Factors involved:
Lack of infrastructure in cities.
Poverty leading to lack of garbage collection.
Lack of education in the population.
Industries dumping straight into the river.
Government corruption resulting in all of the above.
Disgusted with ALL the littering but grateful to see you all doing something about it, you all are amazing ❣️🙏
The main cause of these things tends to be a lack of sufficient local infrastructure for refuse collection which means peole are forced to litter
@@jamiecairns9111 It's a CHOICE. Not a day goes by without seeing people walking, smoking and flicking cigarettes on ground or people throwing their trash out of their cars etc etc. Lazy people who simply don't care about our EARTH 🌎
@bgddogdflgd3013 in guatamala in some of the smaller villages along the river, they don’t have garbage trucks like you and I that come by every week to pick up their trash. Instead the people try dispose of the trash their own way because they genuinely have no other choice , sadly their garbage ends up in this river.
Best thing anyone can do in continue to develop garbage removal infrastructure in these villages, and educate the public on the harm garbage and plastics have on our rivers and oceans
Unbelieveable! Honestly! If you guys and other teams were not showing the reality, it would be so hard to even comprehend what you would try to describe! Mad respect for all teams the have trash collection barriers in place ❤❤
Please do this in India also
Lost cause
@@sleepy4149 One in every eight people live in India so, to say it is a lost cause is to not see all the good people there or understand their circumstances, and it is pretty damning for the rest of us.
@@Joe-sg9ll Positive contribution.
@@dannybowden5296in fairness, it's much easier to manage a small country who actually tries than a billion plus who don't care.
The Ganges is the most holy river in the country, and it is so polluted and disgusting that almost no one who isn't Indian would even want to dip a toe, let alone swim
The people of India deserve clean water as much as anyone ,, most of the non human pollution, comes from western industry and their imported waste ,,as with all countries you cant judge its people by its government ,,the rich and powerful are pretty much the same in all countries ,,we,re all being farmed ,, and culled 😢
Thank you
Thank you. God Bless You!
Thank you so much! 😊
Please do this in the Philippines as well. Subic needs a cleaning.
Shouldn't the Government be doing it, or is corruption the problem?
They are working in the Philippines
Spectacular! Such a cool project. Will there be a river series of the iconic sunglasses maybe? 🤔
Wow! It's hard to believe that us humans are such polluters. Thanks for the great work you've been doing.👌
Incredible job guys, you have my undivided support 👏 🙌
Gracias
Keep up the amazing work
Thank you so so very much ❤ I know it is my country, and that makes me sad 😢 People don't care anymore about our waters, animals or natural resources as it is, but you give us hope, to the ones who care and want the best for our beautiful Planet ❤
That’s awesome. Need a powered conveyor to haul it up and out.
Keep doing what youre doing. Amazing work. Now to educate people, to reduce plastic use and recylcle everything else.
We really need to go beyond recycling and make things to last for multiple if not infinite use. Glass is obviously a great example of that. Compostable packaging is good as long as the biogas isn't wasted in the process, something we're all mostly guilty of (free energy going up in thin air!).
Thank you for this ❤
Just imagine what would happen if humans stopped throwing trash into our planet's water systems.
Exactly
I can’t believe that that’s just from one day. 😢 I’m so glad this project exists.😊
Thanks for stopping the garbage !!
I really believe this is one invention that will last a lifetime and the impact is extremely huge! Thank you!
Thank you guys so much for all your hard work!!
Amazing job guys. Big congrats!!!!❤
Уважение и благодарность людям спасающих Землю от невежественных грязнуь.
Охренеть пластиковый бутылок и мусора😢
Guatemala needs to be educated!! Poverty is no excuse for a lack of respect for the environment! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 to Ocean CleanUp!
thank you for this work
Come to Indonesia please! It’s disgusting how much plastic they have in their waters.
Actually devastating...
Keep up the amazing work! Earth needs you
Imagine , just tossing your trash on the ground like that !😢😢
Hope in Humanity comes Back
Ocean cleanup, team made an amazing job.
The Guatemalan government placed the trash landfill right next to the river. If this landfill does not get closed and fixed, the problem will not go away. When rain season comes there are landslides of trash dumped from the landfill into the river. The Guatemalan government has to fix their trash landfill problem or this will never stop.
🙏🙏thank you all so much🙏🙏
In Toronto we don't have that much garbage in our landfills.
I grew up being taught to separate plastics, glass, and cans. Lately sanitation didn't take if you bagged them, so... I stopped. Then I still put out the orange bin.
They didn't take even though I left it on the curb for a week.
So I'm back to separating by bagging but all in 1 wheelly trash bin. I helped a little.
I'll let them sort it.
Wow!!! God bless you guys!! 🙏💚💚
Imagine if there was some kind of an automated disposal system linked just outside the dam.
Labour is cheap enough there that it's probably better to have excavators handle that.
Я смотрю ВАС из Казахстана ! Вы молодцы ! Вы пример для тех кто СИДИТ В ОФИСАХ .😮
Great job!
Спасибо!!!🙏🙏🙏
😱🤢 Thank you so much for your hard work.🇨🇦👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
🎉❤❤ bravo!!!💪🏻 Love this so very much! That you all who made this happen and those who continue to make it work, THANK YOU🙏🏻
I like to think i do a pretty good job of cleaning up my local creek when I'm down there, but this is on a whole other level. Omg
I hate plastic, but I have no option.
Thank you.
almost tears of joy...
Ojala quentodos los paises usen esa tecnica. ❤
Great work! You are hero’s!
It’s crazy how people will love their country and claim it’s beautiful as they actively dirty it
Great work.
I actually said out loud at the end of that 'Oh My God' too unbelievable for words!!!
Education ist the clue😊
I’m just loving that people are making an impact
I hope they continue to be funded and can continue collecting this trash
If I were to have the money to contribute to a cause. This would be were I would donate my money
Great stuff
Tem todo meu respeito e admiração 🎉 Jesus abençoe sempre 😊
Mother Earth is so proud ❤
Thank you Thank you Thank you❤️💯✅
come to Lake Atitlán
Absolutely disgusting how people throw away plastic in the water
Thank u so much 💙🐠🐋🐳🐬
Impressive engineering to hold back all that and the water. I wonder how y'all built it. Kudos.
They go into great detail on their website. Anyways, it's two barriers, first with rough sorting to ease pressure and a second tighter one. At shore they are concrete casted deep into the soil to withstand and the flow flexibility lightens stress on the river part.
Looks simple, probably huuundreds of hours of simulation, engineering and construction 🎉
God bless you sir and I pray for your days to be extended on earth ❤
Utterly disgusting. I never want to support plastic in ANY WAY after seeing this. So upsetting
Thank you so much for making real positive change
Imagine India, Filipine, Vietnam, etc.
🙌💕🙏🙏✨✨💫🦋
Sad, but amazing work!! Thank you!!!
A wonderful job 👏👏👍
The clip stopped, just at the point when it looked like it was going to flow over the barrier !!! Is there a follow-on clip
Why isn’t the Guatemalan government held accountable for this crime?
That Country should be ashamed of themselves WOW
Save the planet 😊😊😊
Absolute hero's
As long as these countries do not have a functioning waste disposal system, they are tilting at windmills.
Truly amazed by the amount of trash that would have ended up in the open Ocean or other water bodies if it wasn’t for the Ocean Cleanup Project
Por que no detienen a los camiones que arrojan la basura???
Next is drone automation for removing the trash off the top of the water.
Don't they, the people upstream, have rubish bins?!
This is just a time lapse of the city of Oakland.
I wonder if there's a design that would allow the collection by slightly opening the barrier and letting the current push the plastics into some sort of netting that can then be tied off and pulled out. So rather than trucks having to scoop everything out, there's a system of valves and netting
Link i added shows firsthand the amount of pollution to these rivers even deep inside intetior of the jungle its not just the cities
This is astounding😳
Are you sure you Guatemala?
Incredibile, immagino centinaia di fiumi nel mondo cosa riescono a scaricare oltre a navi e imbarcazioni. 😢😢😢😢😢
Where can I donate?
Can you guys tell Starbucks they can use regular straws and lids again?
Это кошмар какой-то... Откуда его столько
I’m disgusted and incredibly thankful at the same time
Right on Guys 👦
It’s shocking to see so much trash in our waterways. Thank you for what you are doing❤❤❤.
😱😱😱 wow this is so much!!
Big respect
What the heck!! Was all that heading for the ocean?? That’s insane?
Get the truck and hitch billy and get the ocean fishing net too
If they had a few cents deposit on water bottles, people would turn them in instead of throwing them in the water.
It is craaaazy, no wonder we are doomed
