Oh my gosh those candied sweet potatoes brought back memories my Great Aunt Mildred's candied sweet potatoes. She added what she called a good slug of orange juice, (that's how she measured), to the liquid and maybe a teaspoon of orange zest, Thinking of that cornbread soaking up the pot liquor from the collards has made me hungry all over again, Anybody who sits down at your table is getting some seriously good eats!
I would have added a little lemon and vanilla extracts and cinnamon to those sweet potatoes. Now, the greens-some hammock, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and onions. Now, this is Old School.
HEY GUYS, HOPE U & YR LIL POOCHIES ARE GOOD & WELL. NOW I'VE GOT TO BE HONEST, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF COLLARDS SO I NEED TO DO MY RESEARCH, IT LOOKS LIKE A SAVOY CABBAGE WHICH WE HAVE HERE IN THE UK. I LOVE SWEET POTATO FRIES, THEY'RE JUST SUPER, UBER DELICIOUS, I COULD EAT THEM ALL DAY LONG WITH SOME COLESLAW & BBQ STYLE MEAT. . . THAT'S GONNA BE OUR DINNER TOM'W, OH YUM INDEED! I MIGHT HAVE TO TRY THEM CANDIED BECAUSE I CAN'T IMAGINE THE FLAVOUR OF CARAMEL(ISH) POTATOES BUT I'LL SAVE THAT FOR ANOTHER DAY. THANKS FOR SHARING YR RECIPES THOUGH GUYS, IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE HOW YOU GUYS DO IT ACROSS THE POND. MUCH LOVE & PRAYERS TO YOU BOTH & YR FURRY BABIEZ TOO. TAKE CARE. X 🖐🙂
Years ago I found a cookbook at my library that featured several good Southern cooks and features their favorite recipes and some great personal stories. One gal said that her aunt claimed that her secret to growing old was eating sweet potatoes every single day. She made biscuits, pancakes, cake, pies, candied, and more. Another cook made a different fruitcake from a recipe that she had modified from her family member who used some of all of the preserves that she had put up the summer before. She did not use the candied dried fruit. I made that recipe and it absolutely made a cake about the size of a small Buick and weighed a ton. It was not bad, but was expensive to buy all of those jars of fruit.
I bet your grandma lived a long time eating delicious meals like this! I love All your videos and I especially love these kind of meals without meat. Meat is so expensive and I don’t think it’s healthy to eat it every day, imo 😋👍
I’ve grown up eating collards, turnips, etc. and learned to cook from my mother and mother n law and other women in the family. We always used bacon, bacon grease or another kind of pork. That’s what made the pot liqueur taste so good. Olive oil must be a preference of yours for health?
Would you PRETTY PLEASE whisper in White Lily's ear to twist the arm of northern Walmart (or any big store chain) store managers to carry it??!! I just know Im not the only northerner who wants easy access to White Lily. This meal tonight looks like the bomb and I really want some White Lily to make GOOD corn bread for a change. Love you guys so much, God bless. Shirley.
Delicious! Tammy, I add 1/2 orange juice and 1/2 water to my sweet potatoes and everything else is just like yours. You may want to try this sometimes. It's really adds a little something good. 😊
Tammy, I'm sorry to send this question to you so late. I've been making candied sweet potatoes for years for my family..usually from 10-15 ppl but never fully satisfied with the way they come out. I like making them stovetop too. Would you suggest another way to cook them to possibly save time and they would be cooked through well? Thank you kindly.
This is exactly the way I do it the lid makes them get done. You may have to make them in 2 batches. To me they are not as good unless they are just out of the skillet.
The way my mama cooked collards, turnip greens cook the greens in water until they are real tender. Fry you up some fat back until you get the grease you think will season it good. Drain your greens you are going to cook and add them to the fat back grease in the fry pan.. Add a little bit of sugar. Depending on taste. Some like it sweeter than others..Add some salt if needed by taste.. Fry in grease until it is well seasoned. Don't have a lot of liquid. That is really good.
Hi from Michigan... Your dinner looks so delicious... Going to have to try it someday... Hey y'all take care of yourselves and God bless you! Don't bite your fingers! 😋✌️😎
Hi Tammy and Chris. This is my type of meal. Cornbread is my favorite thing in the whole world. Chris you did a great job of cleaning the greens! Tammy your hair is so cute short like that! The color is beautiful. Your making me hungry I love sweet potatoes. What a fantastic meal. It looks heavenly. Have a blessed week and weekend! Luv ya!
Tammy, that meal looks delicious! When I make candied sweet potatoes, I add a drop of vanilla flavoring. That really brings a new level to the overall flavor! Thanks for sharing. Love ya! ❤️
Hi Tammy!!! Your dinner sounds just fine to me. I'm a fan of all 3 items you are making. I will give your recipes a try for sure. My Mother-in-Law was a Moore from Pennsylvania!!!. Anyways your meal looks super tasty. I like the white plate your using... Nice video!!!...
@Rhonda Butler hey girl, I've been thinking of you and praying all is well with you 🙏 It's been so hot and humid🥵 here with little rain. Our yard is crunchy. I just had to say hello and love you!❤️
@@kimhoneycutt6258 HEY KIM!! So good to hear from. All is well here. The drought and heat are terrible but this morning it is 64° and you can tell that Fall isn’t far away. Praise the Lord! Hope you’re doing well with your health. How is retirement going for you and Walter? Love ya!🥰
@@rhondabutler4172 it was 63 here this morning, love it! It's been a tough summer, the heat and humidity are hard on me but I'm okay🙌🙏 We had hoped to take a trip out west but that's on hold for now. We hope to go to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in December to enjoy the Christmas lights (and shopping😉)🎄 I'm sure you and Butch will have some fun traveling. Be safe and take care...I Love you 🥰❤️

I love all the food not a fan of collard greens I'm going to make this I'll use spinach or kale yummy Thank you for sharing Tammy and Chris have a blessed evening stay safe and healthy. Love your cornbread and candied sweet potatoes soooooo good. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I really really love collard greens. I usually make my pot liquor first using neck bones or sometimes smoked turkey wings. Love using better than bouillon. And they are really good for you.
Sounds delicious !! Mmmmm….. good old southern meal !! YES PLEASE! My son and daughter in love gave me a whole set of Rada knives and a sharpener for Christmas !! I love them !!
Hi,Your dinner looks delicious I don't care to much for collard greens so I haven't ate any in a long time yours look really good , I might just fix some
Ooh Tammy, you stuck your foot in this one, as they say! That plate looks delicious 😋. All my favorites. I love vegetable dinners. I made collard greens a few weeks ago. Yum! 😋
I use to eat that way all the time growing up. I haven’t eaten collard greens before, but raised with a big leaf spinach green (maybe mustard or tania leaf). Sometimes, my mother cooked it down with lemon juice, onions, garlic, okra, s&p. I was thinking to make it with salsa cornbread (Texas recipe like 1/4 cup tomato salsa to the cb mixture and bake as normal). Dinner looked yummy 🙂🌷
Your food looks delicious! I was so happy to hear you mention using your “old fashioned” pressure cooker to cook the greens in. I have one of those and never think to use it. Would you ever consider doing a video on using a pressure cooker for some meal ideas?

Hi Tammy & Chris! Great job on cleaning the collard greens, Chris! When I lived in Tallahassee (with its sandy soil) a neighbor just cracked me up because he kept an old washing machine on his back porch. He would give the collards a shake and rinse to remove sand, then throw them in the washing machine on "gentle" to finish washing them! Tammy, that was a good lookin' supper. We had a pot of mixed greens....collards and mustard greens this evening along with summer squash, blackeyed peas, cornbread & sweet tea! Can't beat that with a stick as my grandmother used to say! Thanks for another video, y'all!!
My mother would sometimes add a drop of orange juice to her candied sweet potatoes and it was so good! Love ya! ❤
Oh Chris, either you've gone fishing or home fishing for compliments!..Only teasing! 😉
That meal looks so delicious. Makes me want to make corn meal tomorrow. White Lilly corn meal mix, of course. 😊

My mom made hers in a cast iron skillet. Made her caramel icing for her cake in a cast iron skillet. She cooked a lot in her cast iron skillet.
I would have added a little lemon and vanilla extracts and cinnamon to those sweet potatoes. Now, the greens-some hammock, apple cider vinegar, garlic, and onions. Now, this is Old School.

Love love greens, sweet taters and corn bread. What a good man to clean your greens for you. Love y’all.🥰🥰🥰
That's my kind of food but my family is so picky but growing up my mama cooked like this and we ate it
I cooked your collars greens for New Year's they turned out really great the whole family love them.
Wonderful!
Looks so yummy but my hubby would have a fit if there wasn't some kind of meat with his meal.
My favorite meal add fried okra I would think I died went to heaven.yummy

I do not like food overwhelmed by the pork taste
I've never cooked collards 2-3 hours. I cut mine up into thin slices. That way it doesn't take forever.
I don't think the size makes as much difference as whether they are larger older leaves verses young small tender ones

I use brown sugar in spaghetti sauce, soup, dipping sauce. I don't really keep granulated sugar in the kitchen.
I never learned how to make candied sweet potatoes. Now I do. Thank you😊
I and my mom don’t make ours that make ours that way. We make ours with brown sugar and butter but we make ours to end up with it being syrupy .
Looks like a wonderful simple southern mea!
Wow, nice plate of yumminess. New Friend

Yep,, Arkansas folks use bacon grease. We Never throw out bacon grease.💖
Love these mother us to do it differently , ham hock in greens and brown sugar at end of soften sweet potato
That looks so good, but I would really like to see you cook the collards in a pressure cooker. That's one area I'm not real confident in. Thanks
I think I have a video doing that just search
Where did you get Collards this early? I am going on the search now, This made my mouth drool.
