In this way, I can be charitable but firm and they can feel open to asking yet know there's responsibility and grow in responsibility. My grandpa issued me a loan. We worked out a payment plan and I got his bank information. It gets paid via direct deposit and I haven’t missed a payment since the first deposit date. To show my appreciation as well I pay for his cleaning service which obviously is not a part of the loan and I made it very clear it doesn’t go toward the loan.
For real that was the most important loan he ever took in is life up that point . I’d pay it back with interest even if the interest is a big thank you gift. What a good grandpa.

And as a first-gen American, I was able to turn that into the money that they couldn't. I fear for the defendant's kid if this is the best moral display that he can muster.

To me it would depend on the discussion. Some people will ask for a loan that will be repaid on their next payday. And it might not have been a full repayment that was asked about. I have had someone pay me back as $100 a month.

I'm not convinced it was a loan.
Maybe its just me, but my grandpa (or anyone else) would never have to remind me of a loan that they made it to me. I’m never going to consider that someone is just giving me $1500. To me, it will always be a loan. I can’t just take money like that from someone. I’m paying you back. I don’t understand people who think like that. “Well he didn’t say it was a loan so its not a loan.” Really? $1500? That just sounds so entitled to me.
