Great video Nick! Thanks for going to that N&W weekend in Strasburg and bringing us along! Yes, Mighty 611, the Queen of Steam (With the "Heart and stomach of a king!" to quote Elizabeth the First) is heading back to her realm in Roanoke. Hopefully she'll return to Strasburg at some point in the future since it's unlikely she'll be running on NS rails anytime in the immediate future. Too bad. Thanks again!
@@NixCrossing Oh, I wouldn't worry about 611 too much Nick. The folks in Roanoke will put her to bed for the moment and take good care of her but what what the future may bring as far as running her is concerned is anyone's guess.
I couldn't get out there for her final weekend due to other commitments, but I'm glad I was able to enjoy it anyway through your video. I love the creativity you put into some of those shots. It kept a familiar place fresh and interesting. I am sorry to see 611 leave. I know we feel differently about that, but I fear she is going to just become a lawn ornament once she gets back to Roanoke.
Thanks so much for watching! I hope they are able to maintain the locomotive in VA or have somewhere it can run while it’s around there. I think eventually it will return when they can restore the hype.
Jamie Makin and NixCrossing, this isn’t over for 611 operations. The 611 crew recently said stay tuned for more future 611 operations at a later date. Keep your eyes pealed.
The weather was absolutely fabulous the whole weekend! I'm sure 611 is ready to get back on the open rail, and stretch her legs. Strasburg is a deceptively, leisurely 15-20mph pace.
We were going to see 611 in 2021, but she had mechanical problems, so we tried a second time, but they didn't run excursions with her that time. I'm quite disappointed about 611 leaving. I was hoping to see her again in Strasburg.
Back in the day a N&W engineer running a Class J on the "Racetrack" from Petersburg to Norfolk got the engine up to 115 MPH but not for too long. Discretion became the better part of valor so he backed it off to around 70. Although they weren't really designed for it the Class J's were so well built and balanced they could get up to 100 MPH very easily.
No way this is the last of 611 at Strasburg. Where was this when I was a kid going to Strasburg?? It was always 475 pulling the trains usually. Maybe 89?
Dont feel too sad about Norfolk and Western #611 leaving Strasburg. Its not goodbye, its rather see you later Strasburg Railroad. We also see #475 aka the TATMR star. Strasburg Railroad says their goodbyes to Norfolk and Western #611.
Why is it that 611 must leave? She’s clearly a pinnacle of steam engineering, and seems to be running perfectly fine, so I don’t understand the reasoning behind pulling her out of service again.
She’s not really being put out of service for long. The VMT is already working with another railroad to host excursions with 611. Announcement will be made some time soon.
@@chooch1764 I didn't say, but people are getting concerned that now that she is back at home she has nowhere to run which will mean she goes back to static display.
@@uniontrains.8631 I guess you never heard the VMT nor 611 crew said that to stay tuned for a formal announcement on future 611 operations at a later date coming soon. Those who keep being skeptical and not being open need to realize there are short lines out there. It’s not all about being out on the mainline. She will not be on static display for long. Have fun trackside with your camera ready the next railroad 611 runs on. 🙂
Awesome video Nick! Wish I could have seen her one last time this weekend…nice camera angles!
Thanks for watching!

Awesome! I was there last Sunday. Early Bday gift to myself. Just missed the 611. But the ride on 475 was great as always
Thanks for watching! Ahh man, yeah it was sold out all day today

Great video Nick.... hopefully you'll get to do the In cab Experience someday like I am planning to once she gets back to Roanoke....
When she whistles she's saying good-bye...
611 was spotted in Front Royal, VA at 4:01 PM today.
THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!
Thanks so much!
I got to ride in her cab a week ago. Came all the way from Maine for the in-cab experience. Wonderful memories.
Very cool! Always wanted to do one of those. Thanks for watching!
I bet she’s still capable of breaking the steam speed record…..
Theoretically
When at full throttle for 30 minutes 💀
