I’m so grateful that I call New Zealand home. I love your content Ollie, thanks for another fix.. I’m hoping to get out there spearing again after a few years off due to cancer..🤙
Kiwi chef working in Melbourne here! Long-time viewer and love your channel! After your most recent video, I thought I’d share a recipe you could try next time you’re out: Cha Ca La Vong - Vietnamese BBQ Fish Perfect for your Cobb grill! Marinade (pre-blend at home): 1 tsp fresh or pickled chili 30 ml soybean oil 15 g fresh sliced lemongrass 10 g caster sugar 10 g peeled shallot or red onion 10 g peeled fresh ginger 10 g turmeric powder ¼ bunch fresh dill ¼ bunch fresh mint 20 ml fish sauce 20 ml lime juice Method: 1. Blend the ginger, shallots, and lemongrass into a paste. 2. Add the remaining ingredients and pulse to combine. Be careful not to over-blend to preserve texture. This recipe is packed with flavor and perfect for grilling. Serve it with rice noodles, fresh herbs, and a sprinkle of roasted peanuts. Enjoy!
Watched your channel for ages, but 1st time commented. Your and inspiration for all those young people out there lost to the dark side of life. Respect to you, your family and friends.
Thanks (in large part) to your videos, I've quit smoking, lost almost 20kg getting fitter, and saved almost enough money to fully kit myself out to get back into spearfishing more than 20 years later! Cheers for that!!!!
Im a regular mate and to me that was a very successful mission, the ocean provided for you, you had an amazing meal amd amazing views as always 🌊 much love brother
Another awesome mish bro Tacos 🌮 looked on point yumm. Love that advice too 💯 always feels good to get out of town , get back feeling refreshed mentally 😊. Awesome bro 👌
Loving these videos from the other side of the world in America, they've inspired me to go outside more (which has done wonders for my mental health) and work hard in school so that one day I can afford to go on a nice fishing vacation to the south Pacific. Keep it up!
Thank you very much for the video. You're so right to say that it isn't only about catching the big fish, but relaxing and getting out of the everyday life's routine. Again, thank you very much.
Mint vid all the same bro! 🔥 I was the one who said hi to you on Saturday after the concert hahah sorry if I caught you off guard! Hope you had an amazing time there! 🎉
It is great to see that you used 초고추장. 초 means vinegar and 고추장 means pepper paste. It is really good stuff. Some fishes are better with soy sauce with wasabi, and some are better with 초고추장. In case you wonder, you read it: cho go chu jang. Your videos are making me want to move to New Zealand. Maybe some day!
Cheers for the support bro! I really appreciate that mate. Everything I make off this channel just goes straight back into fueling more trips so thanks for that! Sounds good bro!
Great stuff Ollie. Loving the channel. Just a note ... in the late 1970's when I was a kid, the boil ups in the Bay of Islands were 10x or even bigger than that! They were tens of acres in size - it would be hard to chose which one to follow cause you'd see 5-6 of them within 2-5 miles of you any day of the week between Ninepin and Cape Brett. Now you can go for days even weeks and never see one.
Always enjoy your videos mate, regardless of what you do, your attitude to life resonates, ‘the world is a book, & those that don’t travel read only one page’
Well done again Ollie…great vid! It’s so nice that you live in a part of the world that allows you to have option ‘B’, ‘C’, & ‘D’s…but a big part of that is your attitude towards life! Keep it sunny side up, mate! Can’t wait for the next one.
Hahaha crack up seeing on a rod bro first time I’ve seen ya doing it… was waiting for the big moocher to smash that softbait rod straylining… another good one Ollie awesome content as always
just got back from a dive job, wife told me to install the new dishwasher today . . . so naturally here I am watching one of my favorite channels instead! cheers🤣
Awesome as always your trips and me going crayfish diving tomorrow after 9 months. We only get a few days a year to go diving for crayfish in South Africa and can't wait
Shantaram is an amazing novel! One of my favorite books of all time. Never read anything else like it. You probably know this but the author wrote most of it in prison. Great vid as always
Thanks for this great kiwi content Ollie. Makes me homesick. Will try the mayo crumb if you try the blue mackerel dusted in flour cooked in butter skin on. Northern hemisphere thing
Hey Man, awesome video! Thank you. Just wondering if you could share the some details of the boat tent setup. I've designed one for myself, but your setup is bloody perfect. Cheers
Hey mate it's custom made at @senatorboatsnz It all works around the railblaza mounts. Great for if in high winds etc but I would probably do a bungee type set up next time for ease.
Awesome as usual mate, do you set your anchor up any different when solo diving from the boat? Haven't tried a solo spear from the boat yet but wanting to try
Just the usual anchor setup up mate. If you have plenty of anchor chain and correct anchor for your boat, set well, should never have much issues. I do however, usually like to anchor in a depth i am comfortable of diving down to eg usually no more than 15m in case i need to retrieve anchor if gets stuck on reef. Anchoring on reef vs sand always nice and secure too.
yes line connected to bow of boat and drift with boat. Not ideal but works well sometimes. Much easier the smaller/lighter the boat etc. Inflatable boat I had worked a treat
Hi Ollie love your content. Could you run us threw why you went with the open boat design and the tent over top for overnighting? The open boat design is great for lure fisherman and sight casting to fish but with the vast majority of your fishing being under the water I would have thought having that shelter of a cuddy cabin on steams and even when just parked up cooking a feed would be way better?....a Bimini and some clears to cover in for the night? I realize you have sponsorship of course....possibly sponsors wanted you to showcase what was possible from this model?
Hi Ollie ..I've been watching your spearfishing adventures for a while think iv seen all of your post....I wanted to ask you "what's you breath hold" this is an open question for all viewers who knows?
Hey, Ollie, your videos are amazing! You are really enjoying your spearfishing life and I can see it through the videos. Can you tell me what camera do you use? The video looks amazing
Brand new Yamaha would be the most minute chance that something actually goes wrong. If so, I have my epirb and sat phone etc. I can call the coastguard and they will be able to come to the rescue. Good idea for guys with older motors and who do a lot of bar crossings etc though!
If I made it this far????😅 of course bro...... I'd give anything to hang with you for a day!!! I'm ready to get away from the BS here in the US and hang with you in NZ!!!!!!
What are you talking about Ollie, the fish life in NZ is just like some tropical areas with how many fish there are in some harder to reach areas, I tell people in Europe that it is one of the last places on earth where you can experience the ocean in what it was like before industrialised fishing!
Respect for caring about our mental health/physical health bro, nature is one of Gods cures for depression ! I wanna say to all especially those who battle depression please please stay away from opioids, yes at first they allow you to feel happiness but that’s just a nasty trap, once you’ve been hooked your in for a nightmare of a ride! It’s the worst feeling on planet earth trying to get off these evil things. It’s a living hell! I beg you to stay away from it at all costs!
I’m so grateful that I call New Zealand home. I love your content Ollie, thanks for another fix.. I’m hoping to get out there spearing again after a few years off due to cancer..🤙
hope you make a full recovery mate good luck

how long do you sit the fish in this marinade before you BBQ mate? Thanks for sharing that, I'm keen to try it.
@antonposa5345 No problem! Give it 20-30mins (lime juice starts to cook fish) 🤙🏻
Watched your channel for ages, but 1st time commented. Your and inspiration for all those young people out there lost to the dark side of life. Respect to you, your family and friends.

Hey Man, awesome video! Thank you. Just wondering if you could share the some details of the boat tent setup.
I've designed one for myself, but your setup is bloody perfect.

NICE, We got a Hole in the Wall here too, good spot ;)
You should try dipping cucumbers in that Korean sauce, delicious.
inspirational 👍👍👍👍👍👍
When you jump in with those bait bust ups, are you on a line to the boat or you just let the boat drift ?? Love your fish taco recipes ❤
yes line connected to bow of boat and drift with boat. Not ideal but works well sometimes. Much easier the smaller/lighter the boat etc. Inflatable boat I had worked a treat

Did you eventually eat that taco bro 😂😂😂

Nice one mate! Thanks for sharing. Been looking for a boat tent ? Is your tent custom
Hey mate, Yeah tent was custom made at @senatorboatsnz. They only make these for Senator Boats however
Loved it. fishing not catching.
Hi Ollie ..I've been watching your spearfishing adventures for a while think iv seen all of your post....I wanted to ask you "what's you breath hold" this is an open question for all viewers who knows?

If you're worried of your motor not starting, think about getting a small axillary motor like a 10 or 15 hp?
Brand new Yamaha would be the most minute chance that something actually goes wrong. If so, I have my epirb and sat phone etc. I can call the coastguard and they will be able to come to the rescue. Good idea for guys with older motors and who do a lot of bar crossings etc though!

That's it bro!
Very cool, do you use opencell or double nylon
What is the law in NZ with having 1 motor? In SA you have to have 2 motors if you go further than 1.6km (1Mile) from the shore?
awesome
Do you bleed the Koheru?
Il ne faut pas cuire la mayonnaise s’il vous plaît 😂😂😂😂
Olie what kind of work do you do in life ???? thanks for the beautiful video , ciao from italy
