      Yes, apparently it goes back hundreds of years…I have no idea, I guess discovering that the Naga’s head was discovered in June 2020 left me a bit cynical 😂. It is immensely enjoyable either way and their enthusiasm is a large part of what makes it that way.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад +2

      Yes Anders. All the drivers go up and down all day long and the ‘lines’ are based upon the best and safest options at the different sections. Cheers

    Yes Karl, they certainly don't mind a loudspeaker in Thailand do they? You did well to have that conversation with the three monks over that racket! I hope Danny's wishes came true. Haha Buddha not caring about the accuracy of the coin throwing...I was expecting to see John sitting in that chair with the carrying poles.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад

      Cheers Mark. Actually the loudspeakers added a bit of character to the place on some ways. You can subconsciously measure your progress by how near you are getting to the one in front lol. Cheers

    Enjoyable as ever. Didn’t have a clue where it was so looked it up. Not really familiar with that area.
    Wish the National Parks / Government would act and reinstate corridors between the mountain/parks to help wildlife migrate and thrive in different areas.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад

      Well as I'm sure you know they did exactly that with Khao Yai NP and Thap Lan NP but yes, there's a huge amount of forest in that area, mainly protected but no doubt corridors could and should be rerstored. Cheers

    fascinating, that a location with such mass appeal doesn't appear to be any noticeable mishaps. no stumbled step, ending up on the ground with a tear in the knee of trousers. such a popular place in the west surely would have periodic first aid stations with skilled people on standby. maybe with that many monks present, they have contingencies covered.

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, I hate it when people are over-protected and they definitely believe that they are protected by the righteousness of their journey. Cheers

    a little known or unknown fact is that nobody has ever died on the mountain making the pilgrimage, or so i was told in 2009 :)

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад +1

      Unfortunately someone died this year when one of the pickup trucks turned over just a couple of days before we went up. As for the hiking section…I have no idea. It’s not that tough and there are plenty of people around at least. Cheers

  • @steverosse
    @steverosse 3 месяца назад

    Are these trucks driving on the right-hand side of the road?

    • @karlsthailand
      @karlsthailand 3 месяца назад +1

      Yes Steve, if you watch that section again you’ll see that they use both sides of the road. As a team they have worked out which lines are the safest and help them maintain momentum on the way up. Unfortunately the was a fatal accident this year…driver trying to give his passengers a thrill, but honestly, it’s steeper than is conveyed camera and they need protocols to keep everything moving 24 hours a day for two months.
