I've worked basically the same job for the past 21 years. It started out at $29K in 2003, and now at $70k as of 2023. I didn't start my 401k until 2005, and started accumulated cash savings at that same time. I saved enough to put 68% down payment on a house 8 years ago and paid off the house 5 years ago. Right now, my small house is surely worth over $200K. I have a $250K balance in my 401K, and a $150K cash savings in CD's. So just these assets alone has me at a net worth of $600K, not counting my car and small possessions. In another 3-5 years, I'm sure I'll hit the big M mark in net worth, working my same job. Zero debt.
