I started therapy because I had anger issues and depression. I was 19. After years of therapy, I was diagnosed with ADHD after mentioning to my doctor that I felt better after drinking coffee. It kept me interested in school, and focused. I was put on Concerta. Twelve years later, after my husband noticed I'd stop breathing during sleep, if I slept at all. I went to a sleep specialist. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy. Same medications. But I still suffer from depression, anxiety and insomnia. I don't think Ritalin is the answer. I was put on Ritalin for ADHD, Xanax for anxiety, Ambien for sleep. I'm tired. I am tired of not feeling better. I feel like there must be something to help the underlying issues.

I read that people with narcolepsy are more likley to have gone through precocious puberty. The more i read, the more i begin to see it can show itself in some aytipical ways. I suffer with sleepiness and sleep paralysis the most. I went through precocious puberty. I also may have pots. Ive also seen some studies that untreated ptsd can cause narcolepsy. Even people who are medicated with ptsd can have this, I have cptsd from childhood abuse.
", it is fair to assume that the orexinergic system plays a critical role in METH addiction" maybe it's also fair to assume stimulants not only increase orexin acutely, but also messes with orexin neurons. (They also mention in that paper it took 3 months for orexin levels to recover when not using). Maybe the adhd comorbidity is reverse, first adhd then meds then narcolepsy. Orexin neurons not working is so hyper specific that it almost has to be a drug effect. At this point when there's nothing in the literature on drug induced problems I tend to suspect meth because that's the one drug nobody admits to or people religiously avoid suspecting of causing anything like ritalin/stimulants. narcolepsy is a lifelong condition, yet 20-30 year olds have the largest prevalence of it, with steadily dropping rates in higher brackets. This is similar to meth use stats by age group.
Awesome talk and very inspiring thank you very much
Just got diagnosed with narcolepsy and my husband always thought I had ADHD too. I would love to see the slides to help this lecture.

breathing stopping during sleep sounds like sleep apnea to me?
@@jackieramirez4380 it’s actually a side effect of narcolepsy
