I highly disagree. The kind of leadership we have in our political system, we cannot even imagine the damage they will be capable of doing if they are given the power exercised by the president in a presidential system. Joe Biden himself is an example of one person messing so much. Additionally, much wiser minds have already debated on this and even now their arguments stay strong, anyone interested please refer to the Parliamentary debates. Its a goldmine if you want to seek knowledge.
well there is a reason why we don't have presidential form of government; our entire system of governance is designed on the basis of check and balances, so that no one ever holds an absolute power into their hand and it gives everyone a voice into our country's decisions. yes we need more efficient system of decision making and it has been highly evolved in past few year.
@Praful Bhatia If you could just read the comment carefully my friend, there is no dis agreement on the topic, what is mentioned, just what was thought back then! Also, I think China se better example mill sakta tha.
Your idea of a presidential system scenario in India can be good if president with good ideas in mind is elected only which is not always possible As in presidential system scenario presidents can't be removed in between there tenures then what is the possibility that every president will think for nation more his own needs. It can affect the super structure and the base structures also. The only benefit of this system is there will be quick decision making procedure in system . Also we came this far from that initially independent India in economics and several terms with parliamentary system only. Just my opinion btw you know better✌️
A parliamentary system is actually better for India. Just look at the oppositions choice of PM candidates. A bureaucracy which stalls things is actually good. Prevents too much harm.
@@AndrewsMobs CHina had meritocracy since Ancient times, it's a cultural thing that comes from Confucianism. India always had castes and elites, China had a social ladder and it wasn't uncommon for talented peasants to become scholars and bureaucrats.
The Modi government would never want that to happen because that would mean making the states more decentralised so that there is less interference from the centre.
There is actually centralised Presidential system of government too. The thing is no party would like a presidential system of government because of the decades of familiarity with the existing system. Plus India is a complex nation, not every state is capable of existing as an independent federal unit. In some states this could even be outright dangerous from the lens of security. Decentralisation in the context of say Tamil Nadu/Karnataka is great, but for centrally dependent states like Uttarakhand it is bad. The debate on Decentralisation is quite interesting.

I am surprised this guy is praising dictatorship openly and am Even more suprised by people praising him for his opinion in comment section . Guys we have parliament form of govt for a reason. Our present system's basic structure relies on checks and balance. Imagine one person getting absolute power for five years he or she can create a havoc in a country. Remember not always person with good intent comes to power.
Look at China...and look at India...both had the same kind of development in 1990's....China adopted CCP and India was left with democracy having given voting rights to a majority illiterate and uneducated population.....India can never develop in 100 years if democracy continues..
Chavda ji has become more knowledgeable than the entire constituent assembly of our forefathers. Is it ? I feel no. Our forefathers chose a parliamentary system and they were foresighted in their vision.
Our forefathers were enslaved for at least 1000 years....I don't trust their foresight. The educated and well aware citizens of today should change if that change is good for the country.
India need to have smaller sized lok sabha constituencies. And size of states should be rearraged population wise. Most literate, educated, advanced South Indian states have lesser MPs than those of North Indian states.
Actually that is not what southern states want because if delimitation were to occur today, southern states would lose further seats in Lok Sabha because of large population increase in northern states compared to the southern states.
The crux of this podcast is that, he wants India to be a dictatorship under the current regime, but he can't say that openly because it will not be a politically correct argument to make. That is why he mentions the presidential system, which is much closer to the dictatorial system than the parliamentary system that we currently have. This is nothing new and is a very common argument you hear from the supporters of the current regime. I'm not sure if he realizes this, but the thing with changing the system is that, it will be the same for any other regime and not just the one he supports. Maybe he just assumes that India will be under the current regime indefinitely, which is a pretty stupid thing to assume.

First of all . India needs 1 nation 1 election type of election system. It would be easy to debate any law. Parties fear of losing other election near by if they want to make new changes.

Its big topic, if you are really interested. Its possible dive deep and understand. But in simple terms. Government ( executive) has lots of influence on which bills go through parliamentary process. Way too many of the youth are extremely political. I always think that being an apolitical society will be great for growth of science and technologies.
Lol and what do you think politics means? Politic(s) is from the Greek word _polis_ ("city") and literally means "[affairs] of the city". If there is governance, then there is politics. It is impossible (indeed, oxymoronic) to have governance that is not political.

India should have been a dictatorship under the legend Subhash Chandra Bose. Democracy is a joke for an extremely poor, looted and plundered nation (1947 India). But anyways, since we have already come so far, bringing a dictatorship now might be disastrous so we need to figure out ways to unite people so that decisions are made quick. But I have high expectations and hopes and I swear I'll serve my Nation and contribute in whatever way I can to bring back the glory of Akhand Bharat ❤️🇮🇳!

Exactly this, which is something Shashi Tharoor has been asking for for so many years. Good luck implementing it though; there's way too much stupidity in the country to overcome.
Indian parliament system has many loopholes , opposition behavior is like sas bahu ka drama where they don’t let parliament to run and make laws. We feel outside countries of India make use of that. It must change
No we can't change our democratic system because in India there is religious diversity and it's the reason that if dictatorship comes under India it will lead to religious and social conflict but yet I am not saying it will ..I just said chances are there ! And offcose quality of descision making also matters ..what if In dictatorship the leader doesn't listen to his people ? We would not have rights to say anything ..yet to improve our democracy we should change some laws to make our Democratic system beautiful like .. should implement harsh and rapid punishment to a rapist because it's a major problem we are going with ..and providing fertilisers seeds etc at the lowest price to our farmers because if primary sector will improve ultimately secondary and tertiary will grow 🔥

Umm, not making much sense. Unlike China and Russia, India is one of the most heterogeneous States and most complex plural societies in the world. So, Constitution-makers adopted the parliamentary system as it offers greater scope for giving representation to various section, interests and regions in the government. This promotes a national spirit among the people and builds a united India. Also talking about quick decision making power and stability, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar once sais that ‘a democratic executive must satisfy two conditions: stability and responsibility. Unfortunately, it has not been possible so far to devise a system which can ensure both in equal degree. The American system gives more stability but less responsibility. The British system, on the other hand, gives more responsibility but less stability. The Draft Constitution in recommending the parliamentary system of Executive has preferred more responsibility to more stability.' We have different set of issues which can be better handled with Parliamentary system of democracy. There is no need to replace it with Presidential System.
@prafulbhatia2829 Yes definitely they will say yes because they are not aware of the consequences of the Chinese Draconian regime. See what is happening there now. Those heavy words like 'freedom' actually have some meaning brother. Money doesn't matter if basic fundamental rights are not available as in case of China. We have so many examples like Curtailing freedom of press, manipulating information, hiding facts, One child policy, Zero covid policy, Suppressing protesters, etc which shows the real picture of China. You are trying to justify this draconian communist mentality. But, you must never forget that All the ills of democracy can only be cured by more democracy.

Parliamentary democracy is suitable for India as it provides proper discussion before making any decisions and avoids mistake take in haste and the executive have enough power to deal with unprecedented, unexpected and emergency situation.
For your kind information, The British Monarch has no "Extra Democratic Powers" to do whatever the bs you just said. They are as ceremonial as our Indian President.
People need to understand that India's administrative system was formed in the times when Nehru was getting honeytrapped by Edwina i.e. there was high amount of external influence when it was being framed . And it was not put to vote by the people which is not so democratic ig. Any coloniser would only like lay the path of destruction when it leaves. And this is exactly the reason why there is so much "chaos" in the system. It takes a long time to pass laws and by the time it is passed , the enemy has already taken appropriate measures to guard themselves . There is nothing Indian in the Indian Constitution and it does not work for the Indians . You need a system with less headache for reducing the chaos and those changes have to come now , not in the times when your country was in the hands of a person who wanted to build a road across India connecting both Pakistans . P.S. : I see people in the comments talking about some sort of diversity..idk what diversity has to do with this , probably some sort of thing that was put in your mouths by the education system. But there has been 75 years of celebration of diversity, and still people know nothing about the history , culture of the North East (some think they are Chinese lmao), the south has formed it's own narrative of being a different race altogether. So it is pretty clear that this system has nothing to do with diversity at least.
"Chaos" like in many presidential republics. Bolsonaro and Trump stormed their country's congresses. Erdogan who had sh¡tty Turkish economy (he shifted from parliamentary to presidential). Comedian PRESIDENT Zelenskyy running Ukraine. France burning to the ground when Macron raised the retirement age without parliamentary majority. Presidential is the system used by almost all failing dictatorships around the world like Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Syria, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria, Congo, Zimbabwe, etc. Or like the US where Biden had to fight the GOP house of representatives. Coups, revolutions, civil wars, and other instabilities happen more often on presidential republics than parliamentary democracies and it's already proven in history. Also you complain about laws too slow to pass? Well guess what, if the opposition took power in a presidential system, the bill would be dead forever GOOD. Also, there's no such thing as "Indian political system." In the world nowadays, it's either you follow the American (presidential), French (semi-presidential), British (parliamentary) styles of government or you could just go straight to a dictatorship like China.

As in presidential system scenario presidents can't be removed in between there tenures then what is the possibility that every president will think for nation more his own needs.
It can affect the super structure and the base structures also.

There is actually centralised Presidential system of government too. The thing is no party would like a presidential system of government because of the decades of familiarity with the existing system.
Plus India is a complex nation, not every state is capable of existing as an independent federal unit. In some states this could even be outright dangerous from the lens of security.

While I agree to an extent. America has a proper balance of power and Abhijit forgot that even for a bill to become a law in the US it has to pass through the congress and senate and no President can run for more then 2 terms.

Why would any Indian accept a appointed Gujarati dictator?
Why would any Marathi or a person from UP, Bihar, Bengal, Punjabi accept a Gujarati dictator (this could apply to anyone from any state)
Why would any South Indian accept a Hindi speaker as head of state
See how democratic way PM Modi(a kid once who sell tea on railway station) is selecting as the prime minister every person in India can say I elected this person he represents (me) no matter who you are from it doesn't matter if you are from North East South India or any other state from India you can say that proudly🥰

First of all . India needs 1 nation 1 election type of election system. It would be easy to debate any law. Parties fear of losing other election near by if they want to make new changes.
Just see how much money is spend over elections in India. A small election where all politicians standing are idiots but spends a lot money to win. This is also the reason to adopt one nation one election rule

He is not justifying dictatorship. He simply stated that from the context of rapid decision making a centralised system works better, which is a fact. This can be a dictatorship like China or a democracy like the USA. For china, dictatorship of CCP has worked well, for USA the democratic Presidential system have been successful.
Even India has been able to make rapid decisions only when a strong central govt is present. Take the example of PM Indira Gandhi during 1971 war & Operation Blue Star, PM Rajiv Gandhi during Sri Lankan Civil War or PM Modi at present.
@@QuintonDeLauda exactly
The Draft Constitution in recommending the parliamentary system of Executive has preferred more responsibility to more stability.'
We have different set of issues which can be better handled with Parliamentary system of democracy.

For your kind information, The British Monarch has no "Extra Democratic Powers" to do whatever the bs you just said. They are as ceremonial as our Indian President.
The monarch technically has a lot of dictatorial power on paper but no king/queen will never use it unless they want an instant revolution.
Sometimes In Democracy Government Take Decision In Favour Of People Not For Country. Like Making Friendship With Israel, Etc.
Lol
It's down to the clever and stupid public to understand JAI HIND 🙏🏽🕉🙏🏽🇮🇳🙏🏽
Right to recall needed it completely solve the problem
