Ectoparasites are critters that live primarily on the outside of the Chicken. Two Major types that infest Poultry are Mites and Lice. Both Feed on Feathers, Dead Skin, Blood or Scales and Cause, Primarily Loss of Production of Both Growth and Eggs. Young Birds with serious infestations can Die.
Ectoparasites Like Fleas, Mites, Ticks, Lice and Other Insects Keep Our Chickens in Continuous Stress after Infestation. They Feed Over Chicken Blood and Cause Anaemic Chicken, Emaciation, Decreased Eggs Production, Less Productivity and Ultimately Chicken Mortalities.
So This Content About Treating Chicken Mites & Lices Fleas and Ticks by Dr. ARSHAD.
Infestation of External Parasites, Lice, Mite & Ticks are very much Dangerous for Chicken Health as These Lices & Mites cause Chicken Anaemic, Loss of Blood, Decreased Eggs Production, Loss of Shine in Feathers, Listlessness, Irritation, Reduced Feed Efficiency & Even Death.
So we must Use appropriate Managemental Practices to Get rid of These Mites in Lices in Chickens.
We can Use any of these Following:
Wood Ash
Dettol
Litter Bathing
Coop Cleanliness
Disinfection
Diatomaceous earth
Garlic
Permethrin
You can also use Trichlorphon ( Seguvan ) and Ivermectin Tablet to Help Chickens get rid of Ectoparasites and Endoparasites.
Parasites / Worms can impact your Hen's immune system, damaging the lining of the gut and have an effect on the ability your hen has to absorb nutrients. Their eggs production might drop and Hens can lose weight and condition. In extreme cases, worm infestation can lead to malnourishment and infection.
Symptoms of worms in chickens
Chickens are losing weight.
Bloody diarrhoea.
Pale and/or dry combs.
Chickens puffing up while sitting.
Chickens may be less active.
Chickens stop laying eggs.
I would say your 8-10 week old birds could be wormed if you see Worms in Chicken Droppings, Lines over Egg Shell or Worms inside A Dead Chicken's Intestine or over the Body Cavity. The frequency of worming depends on the risks of your birds picking up worms. If you have lots of chickens on land which has housed birds for a long time then the risks of picking up worms are high and chickens should be wormed about every 3 months.
Since more parasites survive, the potential for a worm overload in chickens increases, and therefore more aggressive parasite control and deworming measures are needed. Each worm species has one of two types of parasitic life cycles: direct and indirect.
