When Noel played Champagne Supernova to Bonehead for the first time. Bonehead, a hardy working class lad from Manchester, was so moved he cried. That's how good that song is.
Also, Bonehead is now cancer free: best news of the week!!
Didn’t bonehead say to him fuck off you didn’t write that? 😂
No that was Live forever where bonehead didn't believe he wrote it
Didn't know Bonehead was going through that but good to here. Hopefully he can enjoy a nice bank holiday soon.
Great news! Have a beer on us Bonehead sir!
Fantastic news, mate! He needs to be back right next to Liam on stage! What a vibe that man has!
Slide Away, Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, Supersonic, Don't Look Back In Anger, The Masterplan, Gas Panic, Some Might Say, Cast No Shadow, Rock n Roll Star.... I could go on. Oasis were truly one of the greatest British bands of all time.
Wow…I’ve been living under a rock! It’s true…
Whatever
How is Bring it on down not on this list
totally agree!
half the world away, don't go away, sunday morning call, I'm outta time. I'm also a fan of the track 'shock of the lightning', I don't know if that one is popular with others
One of my favorite youtube things is sitting with a cup of coffee and watching Rick rummage through an artists catalog. Thank you brother
Lol I’m doing exactly the same
I still listen to "Some Might Say" and get excited. Unbelievable tune.
It’s amazing.
Their peak snarling arrogant best
Those Noel backing vocals and the solo outro get me every time.
Nothing beats that britrock, T-Rex style grit in the guitar tone on that song (and plenty of other Oasis classics).
Perfect summer song
Acquiesce is a very underrated forgotten Oasis tune which is fantastic and Supersonic is just awesome.
Yes! You are my kind of Oasis fan!
YES
Acquiesce is great. their single best b-side, imo, and they had some really good ones
Supersonic has such an amazing intro. The sound that something very new and amazing was happening.
Hindu Times dude, Hindu Times. First Oasis song I ever heard.
[06:26] Wonderwall
[08:58] Don’t Look Back In Anger
[12:38] Slide Away
[15:58] D’you Know What I Mean?
[19:29] Masterplan
[23:35] Champagne Supernova (Rick’s favourite Oasis song)
Slide Away. Such a great song. Favorite off the album. The message/ tone really connects
Slide Away Glastonbury 1995. Get on it.
@@LiamLpool Slide Away by Liam @ Royal Alber Hall 2022. Magic. I was there. He was so good. So much passion!
Jake Buggs cover of Slide Away on Live Lounge was also really good
When someone tells you their favourite Oasis song. The answer is always "yes". Amazing band.
bah
Slide away is an absolute goddamn masterpiece. It needs nothing added or removed.
My Favorite Oasis song Ever
Great choice.
My favourite Oasis song still changes by the week though 14 years after their split !!!
At the minute it's 'Bring it on Down'
Slide Away was written on Johnny Marr's guitar when Noel first strummed on it. Pure inspiration!
True, but always liked it more if Liam sang the outro parts when they performed it live
Rick, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve delved into Oasis. Live Forever is their best song in my opinion.
100% this ^
Nice name (reference to Liam's first band).
I agree Live Forever is the best Oasis song
OMG yes! No one ever mentions it >:(
@@raoulduke344 my man
Wonderwall was always the song I dedicated to my wife. She passed away from breast cancer in 2015 and i had the song played at her funeral. It kills me every time I hear it and because of that remains my favorite Oasis song. Closely followed by Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.
My heart goes out to you brother, be well!
Bless you man. I play the song most weeks at gigs but next time, I'll be thinking of you and your late beloved wife ❤❤
Beautiful story. I am sorry for your loss ❤️
So sorry for your loss man, may the music be a good remembrance for her. Be well brother!
Bonehead was the unsung hero of the band. His rhythm playing made the songs rock and when he left it wasn’t the same.
Easy to pick anything from their first two or three albums, but my personal favourite is "Gas Panic!". It's not from their classic era, but it's such a moody composition. Definitely some of Noel's best lyrics too.
Great song!
I agree Gas Panic is great, however I think the Wembley 2000 Live version of the song is much better than the album version
@@DKomnicide Especially with Liam pissed AF and mouthing off entire time!
Roll it Over another forgotten great on that album
Very strong song. Another gem from that era is “Where Did it All Go Wrong?” Especially the acoustic version Noel did on Jools Holland.
And in most cases Liam recorded his vocals in just 2 takes with no autocue. The last true rock star
amen to that he must be kept safe at all costs
Crazy right. Side away was one take. The kid knew how to lay down the vocals
@@mumbles215 all his Performances on Definitely Maybe were in one take! :D Slide Away was special though cause the vocal performance was so good they had to keep it and work on everything else around that
Great observation. I do prefer a heartfelt performance than a polished artificial performance.
Liam Gallagher was prolly the most crazy and sloppy musician drunk I ever met. And during that time period I met several somewhat famous musicians with substance abuse issues. Back in the 90's before they hit it big in the U.S., they did their first tour here in medium sized clubs. Here in Arizona they played a dump/dive called The Nile Theater, which is still there. Liam got really, really drunk before the gig and cussed out the audience for not showing him proper idolization/respect.
Still funny to think about. And later at the bar he had even more crazy to share. At least he was funny, tho.
Columbia has to be in there Absolutely raises my heart rate every time I hear it such a vibe and absolutely mega when they played it live So many different versions live between 94 and 09 when they split The live by the sea version was my fave until I heard the Glasgow barrow lands 10 years of noise and confusion version My band without question Love them
Love that tune!
Oasis were one of those where you really struggle to pick a favourite. Even the b-sides like Talk Tonight and Half a World Away had more longevity than most of other bands' singles.
Half a world away ❤ what a song
He honestly had one of the best "purple patches" as a writer during the 90s..it was like anthems were falling outta his pocket! 😂 Like you say even the B sides..
Half a world is such a lovely ballad. A bit like Coldplay's "Green Eyes", you forget it then hear it and remember how sweet it is
i could list about 10-15 favorites haha
@@damotheman4196 well said
Listing to “Wonderwall” , “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova” on my disc-man at 12 years old was life changing. Always been a fan!
Summer of 95 I was 10 and my brother was banging out Some Might say all summer long. Made me a life king fan of this incredible band.
If you like Oasis give the stone roses a listen if you haven’t already. Their music is fantastic. Noel and Liam both said if there was no stone roses there would’ve been no Oasis.
"Her haaaaair...is soft drifted snow..."
And they went on to become bigger and better than their influences 🤘
@@deadfool3344
Bigger? Certainly. Better? Ultimately yes as Oasis had the songs to keep it going. The Roses didn’t but I’ll say only this…. The Stone Roses debut album is as good a debut album as I’ve ever heard.
Slide Away is such a great song. Full of melodies embedded into those noisy riffs, with tons of emotions and nostalgia in the chorus part. Perfect 😍😍😍
Ahhh this comment is perfect !!!! Thank you.
The outro keeps on growing and growing on you. I love the guitar lick during the fade-out.
My Favorite Oasis song Ever!
Slide Away is one of my personal favourites
Slide Away is so amazing.
Alan White’s drum contributions to Oasis cannot be ignored. All of these hits needed his original grooves to be as successful as they were.
easily their best drummer, by far. not to knock on Zak's skills, but still. Whitey's grooves contributed heavily to the band's signature sound.
Alan White replaced Tony McCarrol in April 1995, so that's after DM and WTSMG were recorded.
@@AnthonyCassidy50 Alan White recorded all tracks on WTSMG except "Some might say", which had already been recorded by Tony McCarroll
I hear you man. Alan White isn’t being given enough credit IMO. His drumming style has uplifted oasis to what they have become. Kudos to the man.
That slow driving beat was their signature. Like a 'don't rush me, I'm grooving' kind of vibe.
I think one of the most underrated songs of Oasis and is probably one of Noel's greatest ever songs is Falling Down from their last album Dig Out Your Soul. A really haunting song which gives us a glimpse of where Noel is headed to with his solo career.
I love that tune!
As a massive Oasis fan, and a big Rick Beato fan this is more than I can ask for…!!! Thank you Rick, this soothes my soul…😊
If you like oasis then you’ll love this, listen to the lions two songs, groove and then roam you can’t miss. I’m also a massive oasis fan and I’ve been with Rick since 300,000 subs ❤ and he always updates the book for free since I bought the original. Love it!!
I’d love Rick and Noel sitting down and having a chat!
@@user-pk4sd9dd2w I think that Noel would be great as well but Liam is so humble now I wonder what he would bring to the conversation? Rick make this happen!!!!
Slide away!
Ditto
Amazing reading the comments… You scrolled 2 min and you see over 10 different titles of fan’s favourite tunes. Just tells you how incredible this band was.
It really is isn't it? I suspect this band will have a Queen-like resurgence in a couple of decades. Too many good songs!
In the 90s the geek kids couldn't get past the fact that they got bullied by people like Liam in school in England. So they never appreciated any of this. Absolute plebs. Living through their ego
Impossible to pick the best oasis song, just soooo many contenders.
Slide away is unreal, the singing right from the bottom of his heart vocal, the lyrics, the greatest love song of all time for me.
Criminal, absolutely criminal how underrated this tune is outside of oasis fans.
Noel doing „Slide away“ live on the 98 tour in Chicago. It‘s on here. Sublime. Pure bliss
It’s so fucking good! I love both that and the electric versions of the song, but you definitely get that it was meant as a love tune w the acoustic
That is the best version I have ever heard, Noel absolutely nailed the singing.
It’s a good one for sure.
"Underneath the Sky" is not just my favorite Oasis song but my favorite song of all time. It's just trippy and never lets up from start to end. "listen up" and " it's good to be free " are top notch..their first four albums ,Def Maybe ,Morning Glory,Masterplan and Be here Now are all packed with incredible tunes.
Agree man. The lyrics to Underneath the Sky are just so brilliant. But when it comes to Oasis, I know every single song in detail but I can not come up with a top 10 in a particular order. I can only come up with a top 40 in no particular order except Live Forever at 1 and Wonderwall at 40. Both kind of for symbolic reasons. One day I would much rather play Underneath the Sky and Magic Pie and the other day it's Live Forever and Married with Children. That suddenly Digsy's Dinner and Talk Tonight and what not. I can go on for ever. I think a top 40 would be crowded. But Yea. Underneath the sky is easily up there.
Such an awesome B-side.
I LOVE that song. I listened to it 3 times today
I was mid teens when Live Forever came out as a single.
As clear as day, I still remember sitting in the lounge with my brother and a friend, hearing it for the first time.
And then playing it again and again, and again and again.
It grabbed me like no song had ever grabbed me before.
An incredible moment
Stop crying your heart out is such a masterpiece, it fits so amazingly well with Liam's struggling voice at the time
Liam’s voice is autotuned to hell in that song
@@connor9568 i know, i'm referring more to the grit he has in his voice, it suits the song
Personally, Supersonic is my all time favorite Oasis song. Also love Rock N Roll Star, Bring It On Down, basically anything from their first album.
16:32 I loved D'You Know What I Mean. Their live performance especially in 2002 MTV Superdry where they tricked the crowd that they were going to play Wonderwall and the roar of the crowd when Liam sings the first words.....still goosebumps
Cast no Shadow for me, love that song. Simple song but just hits the spot.
You got it man.
Gotta be the Maine Road version, though (or Knebworth)…those live versions are out-of-this-world
Will always remember Cast no Shadow coming in the radio in the dead of winter, early morning, pitch black outside and that smell of cold everywhere
One of my favorites (if not my favorite) and most underated Oasis song is Let’s All Make Believe. If you’ve never heard it you should, it will change your life forever.
Totally
Agreed!
Agree!!
Clear as day I can still remember logging onto the good old dial up internet, getting into a chatroom with my friends and waiting for this tune to come on the radio. Steve Lamac played it before it came out as the B-Side to Go Let It Out I think it was. Amazing times
Thank you for playing *Slide Away*, that track has always meant so much to me
Thank goodness for you Rick. I'm an old lady and I had never heard of Oasis. I appreciate you.
Golly gosh, you will go down a rabbit warren, enjoy the musical trip. For me, they sounded like a Beatles rip off band at first, but obviously there is more to them.
@sandpiper At first I thought that, I was a Blur fan. I thought they just ripped off the Beatles, especially their psychedlic stuff. Wonderwall especially, now with the passage of time you see they just gave that 60's vibe a 90's spin. Most bands are influenced by bands of the past. The strokes just freshened up music played by The Kinks. Arctic Monkeys same. That's fine.
@sandpiper Certainly, not out for an argument (it's too early in the morning in Australia, but tell me a couple, I am interested.
@Margaret Chase Check out The Hindu Times, Hey Now, Supersonic and the official video of Noel's solo charity performance of Don't Go Away for the Teenage Cancer Trust. All are bangers and that last one is very emotional. (I also love the early energy on Headshrinker despite the murky production.)
Never it's too late to hear Oasis. This band never dies
Listen Up has it all. It has energy, it has the lyrics, Liam is at his best, great riff... I can go on and on..
That was in the set list when I saw them in 96. I think it was removed later as it’s hard to sing with the high notes, kind of like the hook in some might say.
Agreed a 100%. Works in every way they played, even in that funny high strange 90's MTV unplugged. Just a masterpiece.
I think Listen Up is their best song
There’s an acoustic version with Noel and his band playing at the BBC with a phenomenal rendition of Listen Up
I read at one stage the original solo in listen up was something like 12 minutes long!
Champagne Supernova is a masterpiece. I was in high school when "What's the Story Morning Glory" came out, and this song always takes me back....
Dude, I'm so happy you're giving Oasis some props. Idk what it's like in other parts of the world, but every time I tell people I like Oasis, I get snobby reactions back and I'm just waiting for the day people come back around to realizing what a brilliant band they were.
I get the same reaction too esspecially from people who hasn't heard of anything but Wonderwall from them. When you just listen to Oasis' hits what you see is a successful brit-pop band when you actually listen to Oasis it's a compelety different experience. I too hope that people will realize one day because they were truly biblical.
I used to feel the same. But I kinda like it now. They’re MY band and it’s like I have some awesome secret that nobody else knows about
Criminally underrated here in the states... I adore them as does my 19 yr old musician son.... I listen to their music every day .. Frankly, I'd be lost without the Gallagher brothers...
Before I really started listening to music frequently, I saw Oasis just as Wonderwall, nothing more. I discovered more of their music recently, and I haven't stopped listening to them since. Every time I hear Champagne Supernova, it evokes a real emotional reaction in me, it's not often I hear a piece of music that can do that. All-in-all, this is a masterful piece of art.
What is it that is so beatle-esque about oasis that begs the comparison?
@@badnomad357 The Lennon sneer, and the stolen melodies! There's a couple for you.
@@badnomad357 they themselves always said the Beatles were their heroes and a massive influence.
Try listening to Oasis for a day or two then the Beatles and the similarities will jump out at you.
They've got 32 best songs for 2 night show...she's electric, cast no shadow,talk tonight,songbird
(Video starts proper at 6:24) Great choices! Noel is indeed a great song composer, but for me what really puts these tracks on the map is the production. The arrangement, orchestration, amps, etc. have a vintage sound which gives these albums an iconic sound. I'm surprised Rick had little to say about this.
Yes Rick. That middle section of Champagne Supernova has brought me to tears more times than I'd like to admit. A bit like that middle from Fake Plastic Trees, sounds like the sky is falling in
On shrooms it’s sublime
Two of the all time great rock n roll songs
Oasis have so many underrated songs. Falling Down, Gas Panic, Who Feels Love, Acquiesce, Hey Now. I could go on! The most important Oasis song of course is Live Forever. That song brought so much light to people in a complicated time mid 90’s in England. I strongly believe Live Forever represents a whole generation of young people trying to figure out life.
Liam's favorite Oasis song I believe.
Acquiesce is a very underrated song for sure like Stay Young and my favorite one of The Masterplan Album: Rocking chair.
I agree about Live Forever, and the ending guitar jam was influenced by the Catherine Wheel’s “Black Metallic”. Another epic 90s alternative rock song.
Love ‘Hey Now’
Acquiesce is fantastic - great video as well 😎😎
Thank you for giving Oasis some respect. I LOVE Do ya Know What I Mean? The lyrics hit me right in the gut. Noel is amazing.
I had Morning Glory and loved it, then Be Here Now came out and I thought it just wasn’t as strong and it sort of just went away and I moved on. I recently heard “D’You Know What I Mean?” for the first time in years and I couldn’t get over how great it was. It caused me to go on an Oasis kick where I listened to everything by them. What a band they were. It’s amazing how they weren’t as big here in the States as they were abroad. Another great Brit band from that same time frame I got into late was The Verve. They were so much more than Bittersweet Symphony and should’ve been huge, but that’s another story.
@@greengrass1072 The problem with be here now is it's a good album but it's not on the level of the first two so it underwhelmed at the time bug when you look back on it its still a good album, if not a bit over produced, some of the songs are too long. Magic pie doesn't have the same level as Don't look back in anger or later song little by little songs sung by noel. My big mouth is ok but the beginning of it is just noise and it ruins it a bit, getting better man, average, and so is be here now, fading in out average too but the rest are good tunes. It's as good an album as most great bands bring out with a few good tracks but Def maybe and morning glory don't have any bad tunes imo. Then standing on the shoulders came out and it was dreary and boring..
Live Forever, another perfect Oasis vibe song. And Liam’s vocals! Woof!
Fgurries
In the early years when he’d since the “we’re gonna live forever” over and over and give it 110%… you could hear it killing his voice but it was so powerful to hear.
Fave Oasis songs, Champagne Supernova, Don't look back in Anger, She's Electric and just recently realised how great a song Rock n roll star is with Dave grohl behind the drums.
I agree and the ending guitar jam was influenced by the Catherine Wheel’s “Black Metallic”. Another epic 90s alternative rock song.
It’s THE Oasis song, Noel spent years trying to write another Live Forever and gave up.
To be 18 in 95 when this came out was pure joy. Living in England. I’m sure it was sunny every day from may to September. A great time to be alive
It definitely wouldn’t have been sunny every day from May to September in Manchester, but know what you mean!
Yeh your right it was overcast on August 3rd.
I was 19, it was simply amazing time to be living in England. Every pub would be playing almost every Oasis track week in week out. The sun shine was always shinning. Simply a magical time to be alive.
My second favorite to "Live Forever".
Great video, Rick.
You absolutely nail it.
After years of being Oasis fan, hearing each album and shows million times, I can say without a doubt that Bring it on Down is the best Oasis song ever. Nice riffs, power drums and the voice of Liam was in its prime.
YES!! Always felt the same! It is unbelievable to me how this song is so forgotten when it comes to their greatest tunes. It's the epitome of the "Punk Oasis" era and it has my favorite of many, many favorite guitar solos by Noel... :)
Also, a line like "I'll be scraping your life from the sole of my shoe tonight" is just godlike and it stands perfectly for their whole early attitude. Fucking killer song!
Not bad
That’s the song that got them signed. Absolute banger tune
@@PsychoGallagher that profile pic!!!!
@@PsychoGallagher ‘we’re the outcasts, we’re the underclass’. That always stood out to me, amazing song and reminds me of the early demos they did
The look on your face on how much you appreciate each song in detail is exactly how I feel about the songs as well. Such a pleasure to see someone else enjoying it the way I do. Great stuff!
Oasis are the reason I picked up a guitar to become a songwriter. Headshrinker was the killer track that grabbed my attention. I feel Slide Away is the best song by far. There is a rawness about it, which Tony brings on the drums. Unreal vocals and songwriting. And man the melody from start to finish. ❤️
Slide Away and Champagne Supernova are two of my favourite Oasis tunes!
D’You Know What I Mean is my favourite Oasis tune. It’s absolutely HUGE in sound. I was a helicopter pilot so I also loved the video with the Lynx helos. For me, that song was ultimate Oasis swagger.
This video is the bollox.
Fantastic content.
You highlighted some stunning tracks.
Thank you for your effort.
30 minutes well spent.
What I love is the guitar tone on their songs. That warm fuzzy overdrive is so amazing.
"D'You Know What I Mean?" was a #1 single in the UK, one of my favourites.
Nice choice , I love that song
Brilliant song from an album that may not be their best...but it catches far too much criticism
If your a Oasis fan, watch Noel Gallagher and the Masterplan Conspiracy, it's an hour and half, and this dude James Hargreaves broke Noel's code on the albums and songs, absolutely amazing breakdown.
Second that motion. Video is a trip. Loved the effort.
I was just thinking, after watching this video I'm gonna watch that one again :)
It’s amazing. Really shows you how the mind of a musical genius works
Watched it months ago 2 times because the first time I couldn't believe how much my mind was blown
Confirm from my side - it was a hell of an adventure, definitely give it a chance everybody
Don’t Look Back in Anger has always been my favorite from the band. Such a beautiful song and it was the first guitar solo I ever learned. Noel made it it easy as a beginner at the time.
Yes…surprised more people haven’t mentioned it.
The perfect song graced by the perfect guitar solo.
Agree. May have borrowed the title from D. Bowie’s “Look back in Anger” 1979.
@@ricklohn4140 I think both are a nod in the direction of John Osborne's play Look back in Anger which is well known in the UK.
Bigger than Wonderwall in the UK.
Sort of the Manchester anthem.
"Do you know what I mean" is a badass track. Didn't expect it to come up, but no surprise, you have taste !
My fav of them
My god! Rick you are the best! Shouting out “D’you Know What I Mean” as one of their greatest songs, doesn’t get said enough!! Thank you.
And then to top it off, you make the case that “Champagne Supernova” is their best. I agree with you completely! This has always been my absolute favourite Oasis song, amongst all their amazing songs. Champagne Supernova just teleports me to another level. It’s a masterpiece and a transformative song. Emotionally as a vibe, it’s an anthem, it lifts you up, it brings you peace and tranquility, as well as it makes you euphoric. It really defines the phrase “music is my drug.” It’s a wall of sound for 7 full mins that is beautiful from start to finish.
Great to see such a professional musician and producer highlighting 'D'yer know what I mean' I have always thought this was a very underrated, great track
I know it's been said alot of "be here now", but don't you think d'you know what I mean is a tiny bit overproduced? I like the stripped down version I've heard, but it has too much going on?
And all around the world.
I bought it the day it came out, and thought it was amazing then, but started to think it was a bit heavy before I heard the backlash reviews.
@@jezjukes There probably is and Noel has said as much. The recent 'rethink' with less guitars and more strings in the mix was very good
The intro and the video are still epic and sum up Oasis perfectly
@@jezjukes 100% overproduced. Oasis was on so much blow during this era it was nuts. Every song was layered with dozens of separate guitar tracks, overclocked and mixed with a wall of sound that would make Phil Spector blush. As @Andy Adrion mentions, the re-think version exposes the great songwriting underneath all of that bombast.
My favorites:
Best killer chorus: Morning Glory
Best sounding/produced: Do you know what I mean
Best ballad: Dont Go Away
Funny cause at the time Morning glory the song didn’t do much for me. Now I think it’s stellar. Same with “big mouth strikes again”. Thought it was okay in my teens when it came out, now I think big mouth is one of the Smiths best tunes.
Do You Know What I Mean is quite underrated I think. It does sound bloody fantastic. The drum sound in particular is incredible
Rick, the chords for Don't look back in anger: Verse: C, G, Am, E, F, G, C, Am, G, ---- Bridge, F, Fm, C 3X G (and then another chord I cannot name, some sort of G# kinda thing), Am, G, F, G (Chorus same as Verse)
Noel is arguably one of the greatest songwriters in pop-rock music of all time. He wrote some 20 fantastic songs in like 4 years.
true but he’s not that great alone on stage wish they would get back together for one last tour
@@crypticturtle0961 something about the right place and right time, i think oasis is def the best band to come from the 90s and up
An he needed only five chords for all those songs.
Make that 40 songs. Just think of all the incredible b sides!
Apparently he had most of the first and a good bit of the second album wrote years before he was in oasis
Hell yeah!!! It’s about it time Rick praises Slide Away… I think it’s their best song. Please do a “what makes this song great” on it
I’ve never understood why their third album isn’t held in the same esteem as the first two. In my opinion, it’s still an absolutely solid album and hold strong alongside albums one and two.
Honestly I don't get it either. It's my favourite album.
I also don’t get the hate for their 2000s albums. While they’re obviously not as good as the first three albums (as those albums are literal perfection), they’re still good records in their own right. I feel like it’s because they started experimenting more and trying out new sounds, which may have upset some of their fans.
It’s got some good tunes but the production is shocking. There’s no base, the drummer has to hit the kit like he’s trying to kill it just to be heard over the 700 guitar overdubs. The arrogance of a coke fuelled Noel Gallagher in full swing in that whole album!
Wasn’t a terrible album by any means but it was just too over produced - way too many overdubbed guitar tracks and no bass. But it was also produced during the peak of their fame when they were all full of coke and on wild benders all time. And given that Owen Morris, the lead producer (who was suppose to be keeping them in check) was just as bad as the rest of them and completely out of control, it’s not really surprising how it turned out lol.
I personally couldn't care less if there are 700 guitars on the album. Give me another 100. The melodies and songs are epic. Few bands have ever written a song as good as I Hope, I Think, I Know, let alone something like Don't Go Away.
The Importance of Being Idle is a very underrated song by Oasis, shades of The Kinks at their best.
@@cockoffgewgle4993 Also The la's! Can't remember the name of the song!

Cast No Shadow and Don’t go away still give me goosebumps
Cast no shadow is one of their best
idem
My favorite version of Cast No Shadow is Maine Rd 96 2nd night. Noel pissed off Liam and he refused to restart the song and sat there while Noel sang Whatever. The next sons was Cast No Shadow which they both sing and it seems like Liam’s pissed and singing louder and stronger. Noel ups his part and it’s so well sand and full of Gallagher energy. The best. Supersonic and My Sweet Lord come to mind!
Live Forever is my personal favorite, but there are many great ones to choose from with this group.
Live Forever is the best. Those toms thumping, high notes from Liam. Awesome!
Oasis is one of the greats. I might have gone with The Masterplan, but Champagne Supernova is also a fav. All those songs like Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Let There Be Love, I'm Outta Time, all capture that wisty vibe for me. Also some of Noel's High Flying Birds songs.
Have you heard “A Dream is All I Need to Get By”?
@@jaymueller2418 I hadn't. Interesting, though not in the style of the ones I listed. If I Had A Gun is though, one of my favs.
The masterplan is something else What a Tune 👌🏻 also really like Rockin chair
@@andersrasmussen1985 underneath the sky is underrated
in the 1st NGHFB album you can find some of the best songs from Noel
Champagne Supernova is the peak. It has a "we're the biggest band in world and we know it" swagger only few songs have ever had.
That was on the jukebox in the pubs I went to so much in the 90s.
Love Rick's enthusiasm for Oasis brilliant video 👍
I'm 40. Been listening to Oasis since 1994. I heard 'Whatever' and just got hooked. There are so many amazing songs. Dozens.
I think my personal favourite is either 'Whatever', 'Some Might Say' or 'Flashbax'.
Legendary ❣️
I never liked Wonderwall that much which was probably the reason I never got into Oasis earlier, but I remember the first time I ever heard Champagne Supernova back in 2013 it blew my mind, and had to check out the rest of their stuff. Those early albums are legendary and they've been my favorite band ever since.
Same -- I enjoy Champagne Supernova MUCH more than Wonderwall.
Another Oasis song that get me into Oasis was Live Forever. I am also enjoy it more than Wonderwall too.
@sandpiper oasis are beyond amazing - how could someone call them terrible - it just doesn’t make sense to me
@@robsol123 he's a sandpiper, all he knows is sand pipes
True
I don't like Wonderwall either
Don't think the band liked it ..
Totally with you on Slide Away and Do you Know What I Mean? Absolute Classics. And yea...Nova is killer.
Oasis really were a great band and the music of my early 20s. Playing Champagne Supernova on a portable stereo whilst on holiday in Tenerife with 20 friends and everyone singing along to it is a memory that will last forever. My other favourite is She's Electric. It's funny, jolly and not too long. Really loved this video!
What about digsys dinner?
As someone who loves over 40 Oasis songs I’d be happy with anything you said! Personally, my top 5 Oasis songs are probably
1.Supersonic
2.The Masterplan
3.Some Might Say
4.Cast No Shadow
5. Don’t Look Back In Anger
Listen Up as an honourable mention for the top 5
Cast No Shadow is such a beautiful amazing song
@@LudwigJager7 definitely should have been a single
Cast no shadow is so great
FINALLY RICK IS DOING OASIS! been waiting for this one.
My favorite is Supersonic. Also like tracks like Underneath the Sky, Headshrinker, and She's Electric are some of my other favorites
For me they are the best b sides band ever.
Headshrinker is still my favorite.
Underneath the Sky! What a tune.
Don’t forget Paul Weller’s contribution to Champagne Supernova. What a great piece. It belongs in a museum it’s so good!
And Talk Tonight
Paul Weller and his band were doing a similar sound with his Changingman era work, Oasis kind of pinched off him but also had the respect to get him involved
Noel has a killer secret solo in Champagne Supernova underneath Wellers that Id argue is just as good
Ahhh Paul Weller. The coolest man ever. Cool in the 70's, cool in the 80's, and cool in the 90's. For someone that's been around so long I don't remember him ever having an 'embarrassing' period.
@@StevenWalker-ns5ii That's funny, because Changingman is so close to ELO's 10538 Overture, and Noel said he didn't like ELO. I can hear bits of ELO in Oasis songs. They all copied bits from the Beatles, who copied bits from many artists. Now everyone gets sued, but back then, it was common.
Incredible, theyr ACTUALLY back. I remember as a lead singer playing a gig one night in the early 2000s about 100 people there and I said, is there any Oasis fans here!,,,, I heard maybe two or three claps,,,,this is in Ontario Canada so we did 'Don't look back in Anger' I sang the hell out of it,,,didn't think anyone would give two s**** afterwards I had so many come up say things like ,,,"hey man that was my favorite song of the night,,,whos that?...oh Oasis....ok...." Apparently tgey didn't listen beforehand. 😊 "Some Might Say" my fav. And "Dont Go Away" performance in Leno/Letterman days.
You got to get these two blokes on your show!❤
D’ Ya Know What I Mean? was an awesome left-field choice. Acquiesce is also one of their very best. Anthemic, rockin’, and the best co-vocal arrangement.
I wouldn't say it was left field... Wasn't it the first single off the 3rd album, one of the most anticipated releases of that decade
@@MisterBoy316 No one chooses that when listing their Top 5 Oasis songs and most now view that 3rd album as an overhyped flop (though I love it personally).
I think you could legitimately argue theres at least 15/20 brilliant Oasis songs. Theres at least 5 or 6 on Morning Glory alone. My favourite changes all the time. Champagne Supernova is song that has a bit of everything. Its a masterpiece and every time i hear it i have to turn it right up.
"Stand By Me" was another fantastic song of theirs. "Let There Be Love", too, is probably my favorite Oasis song. I can't explain why, it just hits me the right way.
It’s strange to listen to the same song for over twenty years, like Champaign supernova, and feel the same excitement as you did the first time. Like you said, it’s a vibe.
Yeah agree it’s one of those songs it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve heard it; it never gets old and you just know how it’s going to build. Great road-trip song played LOUD! My kids love it also! 🤙
Slide Away is Liam's best vocal. Paul McCartney said it was his favourite Oasis song. Noel also had a go at re-producing D'You Know What I Mean a couple of years ago, wher ehe brought the strings way forward.
Slide away... I was on holiday with my wife after just having lost twins prematurely. I had been trying to keep things together for 3 months and be strong for my wife. I was lying on a sunbed listening to Definitely Maybe and Slide Away came on. When it got to 'we're two of a kind, and we'll find a way of chasing the sun' I absolutely broke down and cried. Straightaway my wife got up and hugged me. She knew what I was going through. I am crying typing this and it was over 30 years ago.
Hard to argue against ’Champagne Supernova’! Personally my favourite is ’Listen Up’
Champagne Supernova is a top song, but musically it is mostly just Asus2 with moving bassnotes. The guitar fills and the minisolos are what make it.
And most of the fills are by Paul Weller ex-of the Jam I think.
@@maqsimillion Not against Weller, he is a Top Artist, but before arrangements, what makes a song great are melody and vocals, and Weller had nothing to do with that.
@@maurovassallo1482 true that.
Listen Up doesn't get enough love.
Unlike those who never got the hype about Oasis, I never got the hate. A surprisingly diversive band
@@rubberchix Think he meant divisive haha.
Agreed. Especially in the States. So much more to them than Wonderwall.
@@discreetelite Dammit! I was wondering why that word looked so wrong when I wrote it!
@@rubberchix If you listen to their B-sides, you might change your mind on that.
@@rubberchix they are more diverse than they get credit for. Listen to the best songs from all 8 albums and most of their B sides.
Love that Rick gave Right Here Right Now some love. Goosebumps on all these songs.
I always think I'm not really an oasis fan, but then every time I hear any of about 5 oasis songs, I'm singing along like it's the greatest thing ever.
Live Forever is my favourite, but the chord progression in the chorus of Slide Away just hits me in the soul.
Me too why is that? The British sound I think.
@@carolynenochs9139 For me I think it's a combination of the typical silly 'rockstar' attitude/onstage antics, and the laddish types who worship them. It tricks me into thinking they're not really my thing... until I listen to them and remember how brilliant the songs are.
@@thegrinderman1090 My feeling is that they were always a bit more mature and sophisticated than they let on and a lot of that image came from the press. Look at them on the cover of Definitely Maybe, no lager louts that's for sure.
Rick is going to launch me back into an Oasis phase for a few months 😎
Phase is your whole life after you first get into them lol
Agreed. Champagne Supernova stands out even in the Oasis canon. It doesn't sound anything like anything else they done. And it is epic!
in my opinion there are other very beautiful songs, like “Rockin’ Chair” “Acquiesce” “Hello” “Go Let It Out”
Looove Rockin' Chair, such a great song.
Don't forget morning glory, the song not the album. Out and out rock n roll
@@batmanmartin496Indeed!
This was a nice surprise. Oasis been my favorite band since 1995 when I was 11 and always love it when they get some love here in America.
It's wild how many good B sides they have that the general public don't know about.
Love how the final chorus lyric is a question that answers itself. "Where were you when we were getting high? - We were getting high.
Noel Gallagher is lyrically and melodically a miracle gift to music IMO. I grew up in North England in the 90s and Oasis just captured....something of that time.
Magic Pie, for my money is Noel's finest work if I HAD to choose. Totally underrated and overlooked anthem. But yes, Champagne Supernova is a great choice.
it was soo good to watch this, back in 96 to 99 i was the guitarist at school that knew all the oasis stuff. we played masterplan at our leaving assembly, hearing it again made me cry. what inspirational lyrics for leaving school and going forward in life. wow.
Love that D'You Know What I Mean is chord for chord Wonderwall, just played on electric guitars. Even has the capo on 2nd.
For me... Gas Panic is the finest thing Oasis ever did. Stunning from start to finish.
As always, great video Rick. Appreciate you and your channel so much.
I think Live Forever can be added to the perfect songs list
And also Stop Crying Your Heart Out
Live Forever is a must!
Live Forever is a close second. Not just because I'm a City supporter.
Live Forever. A+
The fact that they managed to create such an absolute classic and polished track such as Stop Crying Your Heart out, almost 10 years after their debut it’s crazy! It’s one of those timeless -and sort of cheesy- songs that get you!
There are plenty of other songs I love just as much as, or in some cases more than, the "perfect" ones, but I don't consider them perfect for one reason or another.
My "perfect" list would be Wonderwall, DLBIA, Slide away, Live forever, Champagne supernova, SCYHO, The Masterplan. With Supersonic and Half the world away potentially too.
To reiterate, this isn't my favourites list, it's my "perfect" list.
