I was able to rwmove the alternator and replaced it thanks to your video but was never able to put that damm belt on i had to ask for help from a buddy to help me move the tensioner while i installed the belt Thanks for the instructions 👍👍
Thanks for the great video. Thanks for identifying the sizes of the wrenches too. That’s very helpful. Mine went off without a hitch thanks to your video.
You have my favorite mechanic channel. I'm about to replace the alternator on my Civic and you really did an awesome job explaining the process, tools, and were entertaining! Hoping the "cheap brand" doesn't bite me in the ass once it's all done haha!
I have to say one the best videos I have seen on RUclips and you did it mostly with one hand. I mean everything was good about the video the camera position and your expertise.
Just changed on my 09 Honda Accord. Boy that thing was hell to get, but of course installation was a breeze. But afterwards my car seems stronger. Don’t know how much money I saved by doing it myself. But I would say at least $300. But I got a good deal on a new alternator from Amazon. Good video.
Nice, tip my hat for the one handed operation. Maybe a cheap bendy tripod would help out. Great video, even a novice should be able to follow it and have success
thank you for posting this video it was very helpful. I suggest that anyone attempting this repair uses an OEM replacement. I replaced mine with a re-man and it was a dud!
+greg willbee Dude tell me about it! I actually had to order another alternator because the one I had was overcharging and made the battery light come on......remans are ass!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for watching!
Why did this man got 34 dislikes. He did a really got job at telling you what to do. Told you to do a diagram on the belt. Then he told you the size of the bolts.
Thanks for the video. Your diagram saved me big time. The belt slipped off and I had to put the entire thing back on. Then the re-man was bad! I got another one from a different place and I'm hoping it works. Went on much faster the 2nd time! Thanks
Great video. It was a real big help. Especially the bolt sizes. Don't drop anything, you will NOT get it back. I went and bought 3 more 12mm sockets in case I dropped another one. The Honda service guy, George, said "It's probably not the alternator, It's probably the battery. Change the battery." Dumb ass was WRONG! I just wish I knew the torque setting for the 2 main bolts.
For the belt tensioner I cut off the open end of a 19mm combination wrench and bought a 5' x 3/4" conduit and that gave me plenty of leverage to move the tensioner.
John Zambito. If its already an open end, all u had to do is hook a round wrench on the open 19 side and theres your leverage. May sound confusing, but it works and locks in.

Just wanted to say thank you for this guide. I've never done any type of mechanic work like this before but I gave it a go on my 2006 Honda Stream and F*#¥ me it worked! Prolly saved me hundreds.
Hi I have a ho alternator on my 2012 civic and my issue is that when I brake to stop the voltage goes down but goes up when I accelerate again. What can cause my issue
Any ideas for extracting that bottom bolt without access to a welder or taking the whole front end off? That sucker broke off a half inch in the engine block and I tried an extractor and can't push enough force into it. Thanks in advance
Do I need to only remove my negative terminal? I have a 2012 nissan altima and I just replaced the battery and had to use a memory saver a few days ago.. now I need to replace the alternator but not sure if I can just remove the negative terminal and my alternator installation will be a okay? Some people are saying to remove both the negative and the positive but I believe that could possibly mess up my computer.
hi one quick question I have a 2012 civic LX sedan and was wondering if it's normal for my alternator to charge between 12.5-12.9 volt while running. read in the internet that it's for saving fuel unless I turn on the headlight I get the 14.4 volts
Yea I noticed that my accord does the same thing. Honda said it's normal. Autozone said the alternator is bad. I've never had any issues starting the car. I added an extra ground on the battery. Now the volts stay at 14.6 while running. So upgrading to a fatter ground cable and maybe a fatter positive cable should help.
Same problem here.im getting trouble to start my civic .mi charge is between 12.4 to 12.6 and yes the internet says it normal and my mechanic says it’s not normal
@@adolfoestrada7134 yes it did solve my starting issue. You gotta check your fuses and relays before taking the starter out. Autozone can test your starter for free.
I have a 13 lx and my audio system makes my lights dim so much im planning on doing the big 3 but im having a hard time finding a new alternator more power that would fit my car any suggestions?? great video btw !!
Were can you get a ho alternator? I have a 13 civic lx and plan on upgrading my system to alot more power and cant find any higher than 95amp ones for my car
Hey what are the most commonly long ratchet wrenches you use for your jobs? Im thinking of getting a set of them from like 10mm - 19mm for like 150$ donno if thats good enough but im going to start in a dealership soon as apprentice program
i had same readings yesterday 12.6 out of alternator But i turned on the lights and the alternator read 14 .7 i suspect its a voltage regulator not alternator
I tried to go buy a replacement alternator, but they asked what the amps, they have 75 amps or 120, I have the same car as the one in the video. How do you find the amperage?
How can i tight the belt when the new alternator would be installed. That part is skipped in this video, and i can't fount your video which is related to that part.
I swapped out the alternator just now, I have a new battery but now the car won't start. Engine won't turn, no lights or sounds. Any idea what I need to do?
Hello, just subscribed. I was wondering if all 9th gen Honda’s have that same loud ticking sound like the one in the video? My 13 civic ex has that same sound and it drives me crazy. I’m here because I thought it could be bad bearings in my alternator or compressor but the sound didn’t go away when you replaced your alternator. Is there any way to reduce the sound?
I got whining noise plus knocking sound on 2010 Honda CRV with only 33k, I tried to disconnect power connector from alternator while car is running but noise is still there, I wonder if it is really alternator that went bad.
Ok so your going about this the wrong way.........How about this, in this situation you need to do process of elimination so the first thing I would do is pinpoint the exact location of the sound. If there is a whining noise when the engine is on and noise increase at higher rpm's then try to remove the drive belt and see it the noise goes away. If it does then we know its not engine related so next try to spinning every pulley til you hear something unusual. Let me know how you make out..........
Hello, I come across with your video as I have the honda civic 2012 lx. The battery was replaced 1& 1/2 year ago and now I also have a battery issue that I can't start my car. I suspect that the alternator could be at fault. Where can I get it tested?
The reason why is this: The power connector on the alternator finally goes back to the + terminal on the battery. If you connect it to ground (the frame of the car) then you short the battery. It's possible that the battery might explode, or you could get shocked, or you might cause damage to other electrical components in the vehicle.

Why do you need to change the alternator so soon? Does this car have a lot of miles? My alternator in my 93 honda with 200k miles lasted 20 years.
Newer cars aren't meant to last that long. The quality of the parts are garbage. I have a 2014 and my starter went out at 50k.

why would you need to disconnect the battery, why not just disconnect alternator power connector
