+Joanie Kennedy Well in a self defense standpoint, many martial arts are great. TKD is one of those kinds of martial arts that I feel is a good start for those wanting to get into the martial arts biz that arent too sure about doing martial arts. But do some more studying on different kinds to get a feel for each one and take free classes if some martial arts schools offer it.
+Joanie Kennedy Tough question really. The best self defense is running and screaming. Having said that, I would suggest you google the various martial arts schools around you as well as styles that interest you. I have been a student/teacher for over 30+ years and have come to the conclusion that the style is not as important as the person doing it. Any real self defense course is going to teach economy of motion as well as running and screaming (sorry but that is reality). More than likely you may like what you are doing and decide to follow. TKD schools vary so be careful. I would suggest more videos of various martial arts basics as that is a way to get an idea. I myself like Shotokan and Isshiny Ryu. But also practice weapons. Think of stabbing someone in the neck with a broom stick instead of swing it like a bat. Let me know and I can give you more specific advice from the schools/styles that you decide you like.
Both serve different purposes, competition in both tkd and karate is about social aspects and demonstrating how the techniques can be used not to hurt others but show their technical beauty whereas traditional techniques are used to kill violent opponents
The first pattern he showed was a palgwe pattern, the second poomsae. Palgwe forms are also Taekwondo patterns. Some places practice palgwe, while others poomsae.
need to watch daily before exams good mental prep

round house kick is kicked by taking round while side kick should kicked directly
Normal for elders
@Jollyfalla Kindly said. If he was younger he would be able to chamber tighter to his body, and it would be easier to see the difference.
When it comes to a self defense stand point how dose TKD fair? I am wanting to learn a martial art but for self defense reasons. Thanks
