Thanks for watching. If you want your 4 cycle trimmer to last you're going to need to do your yearly maintenance then.
I've had one of these trimmers for many years now. Only put a new carb on it and it still runs fine. Not mixing gas helps my decision to keep using it. I'm 70 but still can handle this with no issues. Very dependable and convenient for the additional way to start it using a battery-powered starter. Works fine. Will keep it till it dies or I do.
Batteries have to replaced every couple of years or yearly and don’t forget about the fuse
thank you for vouching for them. I envy your abilities!
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE thank you
My dads Honda GX35 powered Line trimmer tested at 85 PSI & it has a decompression camshaft fitted & that's why the compression was that low,so that's probably why the line trimmer in the video was low on compression.
I did mention before that we have had no problems using the Chinese type of spark plug which only cost me $2 AUD & which is used in the "Chonda" (Chinese Honda copy) engines in a Honda engine.
In my experience when I was repairing the Stihl leaf blowers for my aunties work I managed to clean the Kill switch out on one of them I repaired,it got full of oil, dirt, dust & gunk, etc !
you know i forgot about the compression release. I'll have to check the diagrams and see if it does. Thank you !
Another great video. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Good video
thank you!
I agree with you to keep things simple. Heavy trimmer would not be feasible for me. I think 4 stroke engines on trimmers are jsut too cumbersome for even general maintaing. Thank for the insight!!!😀
I like the smaller 4 stroke like these, but having to hold them is really tough to do for long periods of time. Thank you !
Thank you for the video if my project is I just saved 2012 Troy-Bilt self-propelled lawn mower my people were using it and they didn't even know it was about ready to go two pieces the air filter was full of grass and oil I wants to run self-propelled works the Bell was really shredded but I can get a new belt you know I know how you feel when you can save a mower at gives a good feeling
thanks for understanding my feelings
Great video👍🙏👍🙏
Thank you very much!
2 cycle trimmers are the way to go. No valves to adjust. Just a carb clean maintenance.
I would definitely use a battery powered trimmer though. DeWalt makes an awesome 60V unit that Todd from Project Farm tested on his channel a while back. Was the best one he tested.
Battery equipment is worthless
@@shangrilaladeda eh, to each their own I guess.
@@MarkMeadows90 no it’s a fact not an opinion, I don’t care for feelings only what is true and not
@@shangrilaladeda okay if you say so
agreed, I like the simplicity of a 2 stroke better
I’m a 71 yr old in pretty good fitness I just switched over to to battery operated ryobi reason is weight. But I also find it very clumsy to use not balanced well at all very top heavy. I’m definitely not a fan of battery operated equipment I would never buy battery lawnmower main reason is the cost batteries go for as much as $300 completely crazy these companies are making a fortune ripping off consumers. Great video I 👍still do my own maintenance on my small engines.
nice and thank you for sharing your experience
I have a Honda ULT 425 4 stroke. Yes it’s heavy but I love it.
I have a Honda trimmer too, and I like a lot. I use it when I need the extra power.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE that’s why I like mine. The extra grunt.
When it comes to weight I don't really notice it between my Echo PAS-2620 (25cc), Honda HHT25S (25cc) and my Craftsman (Troy-Bilt) 29cc units. That being said, I don't have the Craftsman anymore, just the engine as the shaft wore out, I was using my Honda up to about a week ago when it stopped working (needs new fuel lines and some carb work) and it's incredibly easy to start compared to the Echo as another commenter said, there's probably a compression release in the unit you were fixing in this video.
yes, I have to agree with you. My Honda trimmer is the easiest starting trimmer I've ever had
I Only use 2 strokes for trimming, but I love 4 strokes like a TB304-s *Because the TB304-s don't have those stupid pawls* for a DEWALT/Worx or Craftsman edger attachment or string edging with a Honda HTT35LTA which I plan to get one of them soon
very good point
If that's what I had...............you know how feel. A also gave my gas spare mowers to my pal that has his own saw shop. He'll take care of them and will use them. The battery stuff will have to pull the load now for sure. Toots likes her Kobalt battery pressure washer just fine. I'm out of the loop and so is all my gas equipment but the blowers. I feel plumb naked! Thanks and a good week for you!
thank you too!
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 10/4!
I have a 4-stroke trimmer (universal - can also do chainsaw and bush-trimming) and i love that it's so quiet compared to the 2-stroke variants. Also not having to have pre-mixed fuel is a pro for this type.
yes I like the mellow sound of these 4 stroke engines too. The maintenance isn't terrible but it's there.
🤔 you are being fooled, 2 stroke is king, the best 4 stoke is made by Honda but echo still wins in small engines for the most part
@@shangrilaladeda 2stroke have more power by less weigth but the smell bad and need special fuel. Also being much louder. And now?
@@rubberduck4966 doesn’t matter if you want the performance noise is not that big of a deal
@@shangrilaladeda Who says i need the plus on performance? My 4stroke trimmer has more than enough power. What r u doing with your trimmer? Killing whole trees? Maybe a full chainsaw would be better for that task...
I have a craftsman 4 cycle trimmer. It has a brush blade on it and i don't use it much
yes I don't need to use a blade much either
This is one item where I prefer battery power. The weight and vibration of gas powered trimmers are exhausting for me.
a battery trimmer is not a bad machine
Hey bro what's up? Nice video. I think that some of the equipment manufacturers make are very heavy and I believe that they would cause injuries to the user in the end.
thats a possibility
My Stihl fs550 is 22lbs 😉
WOW!!! I'm sure it's a real workhorse though!
All my hand-held OPE (trimmers, edgers, etc) are 2-cycle, and even being light as they are, I almost always use a support strap. My arms give out much faster if I have to support the full weight of the tool.
Would I want a 4-cycle piece of equipment and all the additional weight and maintenance that comes with it? Absolutely not! If I could find a 2-cycle mower in decent condition for a decent price, I'd buy it.
Agreed!
Heavy? I looked at an Ego trimmer in 2023 and thought it was heavy w/o the battery. I decided to continue to use my little, light, Craftsman V20 for mundane trimming and save my Ryobi 2-cycle trimmer for heavy-duty trimning and for my attachment's use.
this one complete was almost 16 lbs. how much do you think the Ego weighs then?
Everyone is different but for me I can handle a bit of weight to the point it’s not noticeable anymore
nice, if I was younger, I wouldn't mind it.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE the wild badger i currently have is 15 pounds but with the guard off it helps a bit
If your young that trimmer honestly isn’t that heavey I used one to clear Thorns and the took 3 hours also 4cycle trimmers sound so good too
I completely agree!
do valve covers need a specific torque setting to avoid leakage? Wouldn't a service include air filter, plug, and filter? Do you use an rpm sensor to check settings of idle and full throttle...or too much.....?
a torque setting would be beneficial but since it's sealed with an O-ring, it just needs to be hand tight. I only replace the parts you mention if it's need. I don't typically replace parts without a reason because I find it wasteful. No I set the RPM to near the point where the clutch almost engages.
I don’t like the 4 stroke trimmers because of the weight. 30 years ago it would have been a different story, as I was in better health then. A few lengthy stints in hospital soon slowed me down, especially in the last 8 months when I nearly lost my life due to illness.
agreed, after a few injuries and surgeries things get real tough to do.
my neighbor had an early 4 stroke trimmer . it didn't seem to spin enough rpm . maybe newer ones do though . wondering if you can use these on their side for extended periods w/out oiling problems ?
unfortunately no, you cannot turn these on their sides at all. If you do, the oiling system will not work well.
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE thanks .
Bel video mi serbrava un po' bloccato quella coppia conica o no??
Quale coppia conica stai chiedendo?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Ciao quella del decespugliatore.
potrebbe essere. lo guarderò più tardi oggi
is the valve train sohc or ohv
it's an OHV with pushrods. The camshaft is not visible on this one.
None of that that engine is probably brand new. I’ve tested a fully brand new four stroke weedeater off the shelf and the compression was 75 psi there’s a compression release in those just like in lawn mowers
yes you are correct!
Not at all! 2 stroke echos for me for sure!!
great choice, those are great machines
Heavy, low performance, crappy trimmer head you have to restring constantly. Remember, it could have a compression release that powers the compression reading. So glad I don't work on these budget brands any longer.
yes you are so right about the compression release
