Dear B. Nayak, there is a high demand for this course after M.Sc. nowadays. So, a minimum 630+ GATE score is required for an unreserved candidate to get into IIT Madras and IIT Kgp (these two are top IITs in sense of placement of this course). But if your score ranges from 550 to 600, you may get some IIT, for example, IIT Patna, IIT Palakkad etc. Also, a good score implies a good rank.....All the best !!

For good iits, you need sound basics of Mathematical (not only a good rank is sufficient). You must target a good GATE- SCORE (rather than rank) which is around 550.
